Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Nugget Nose was a character on which of the following shows?

Answer: Buford and the Galloping Ghost

Nugget Nose appeared on the show "Buford and the Galloping Ghost". He resided on the Fuddy Dude Ranch and looked after two young cowgirls named Wendy and Rita who had to deal with demanding boss ranchowner named Fenwick Fuddy. Whenever the girls were in trouble, Wendy would rub her enchanted necklace and Nugget Nose would come to their rescue.

The show originally appeared (along with "The Buford Files") on September 9, 1978, as a part of a bigger show called "Yogi's Space Race". After that show was cancelled in January 1979, "Buford and the Galloping Ghost" got their own stand alone show in February, as did "The Buford Files", although neither show offered any new episodes from their previous airings.
2. The Groovie Goolies lived at which of the following places?

Answer: Horrible Hall

Frightened Frank, Dangerous Drac, and Weirdo Wolfie were the main characters who lived at Horrible Hall on "The Groovie Goolies", which ran only a single season, in 1970. The trio not only got their kicks from frightening people, but enjoyed performing songs in their band, as well.
3. Who was Jana of the Jungle?

Answer: Protector of the South American jungle

"Jana of the Jungle" premiered on NBC, in 1978, after being a backup show on the "Godzilla Power Hour". The show ran for only one season. Jana was the protector of the South American jungle. While serving as the jungle's defender, she was also continuing her search for her father from whom she'd been separated from years earlier. Jana also had an albino jaguar named Ghost and a marsupial named Tiko, who would assist her when needed.
4. On which cartoon series would you find the following characters: Mudsy, April, Skip, Augie, Elmo, and Boo?

Answer: The Funky Phantom

Mudsy, April, Skip, Augie, Elmo, and Boo (along with Farmer Higgins and Mr Carter), were all a part of "The Funky Phantom" show, which aired only one season in 1971.

'Mudsy', or Johnathan Wellington Muddlemore, was a cowardly Revolutionary War soldier who hid in a grandfather clock, along with his cat named Boo to escape a British regiment. Unfortunately, he and Boo were trapped inside the clock for 200 years until they were unwittingly 'rescued' by a group of teen-aged mystery solvers. Shortening Muddlemore's name to 'Mudsy', the group went about solving mysteries a la "Scooby Doo" gang.
5. DC Comics were represented on Saturday mornings in the 1970s by the "Super Friends" TV show. But which of the following shows was Marvel Comics' contribution to Saturday mornings?

Answer: The Fantastic Four

DC Comics had a proliferation of various superheroes representing their company on Saturday mornings during the 1970s such as Batman, Capt. Marvel ("Shazam"), and Plastic Man, but Marvel Comics did not produce a cartoon for Saturday morning TV in the '70s until 1978 when "The Fantastic Four" debuted on NBC.

However, this version of "The FF" was slightly different than the comic book or previous TV show from the late 1960s. In this version, the Human Torch was replaced by the robotic H.E.R.B.I.E. (created by Reed Richards a.k.a, Mr. Fantastic) due to concerns that children might try and emulate the Torch's fiery powers by setting themselves on fire.

The show lasted only one season.
6. Which brother was Jimmy Osmond on the '70s Saturday morning animated series "The Osmonds"?

Answer: Youngest

In 1972, "The Osmonds" debuted on Saturday mornings as part of the ABC new fall lineup. The show followed the adventures of the pop music group, The Osmond Brothers. It used the same format as "The Jackson 5ive" cartoon, which had premiered a season earlier on the same network with the family traveling the world, getting into trouble, and getting out of it by performing at least one of their popular songs of the day.

The Osmonds were made up of six brothers, Alan, Wayne, Jay, Merrill, Donny, and Jimmy, who was the youngest; their sister, Marie, was not a part of the show. "The Osmonds" lasted only 17 episodes.
7. This Saturday morning cartoon werewolf had only one tooth. What was his name?

Answer: Fangface

"Fangface" premiered on ABC in September 1978, as a part of that network's new Saturday morning lineup and ran for three years in various formats. The cartoon was pretty much like the other mystery shows featuring teens solving crimes of its day, like "Scooby Doo, Where Are You?" and "Jabberjaw".

"Fangface" followed the adventures of teens Puggsy, Kim, Biff, and Sherman as they confronted monsters and other villains each week. Fangface was actually a teenager named Sherman, who would transform in wolf form during a full moon or at the sight of one in a photograph. In later versions of the show, the team was joined by Fangpuss, the baby cousin of Sherman.
8. In 1972, "The New Scooby Doo Movies" saw the gang team up with other TV stars (real and fictional) of the day to help them solve whatever mysteries they found. Which of these TV stars NEVER appeared on the show?

Answer: Muhammad Ali

While heavyweight boxing champ Muhammad Ali would get a Saturday morning animated show in 1977 entitled, "I Am the Greatest: The Adventures of Muhammad Ali", he never met the "Scooby Doo" gang nor appeared on "The New Scooby Doo Movies". This was Scooby's first spinoff from his original "Scooby Doo, Where Are You?" series which began in 1969.

"The New Scooby Doo Movies" ran throughout the 1972 and 1973 seasons and saw a host of real life and fictional characters appear on the show like Phyllis Diller, Don Knotts, Dick van Dyke, Batman and Robin.
9. Radley Crowne is the civilian alias of which of the following superheroes?

Answer: Blue Falcon

Along with his robot dog, Dynomutt (a.k.a Reggie), Radley Crowne protected the citizens of Big City in his superhero guise of The Blue Falcon. While B/F did his best to keep his city safe, he always had to deal with Dynomutt's mishaps and bumblings when fighting the criminals who plagued Big City but, despite all of the craziness, they always seemed to come out victorious.

"Dynomutt and the Blue Falcon" originally began as a segment of "The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour", in 1976. Then, in 1977, the duo was featured on "Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics", before finally receiving their own series, in 1978, although it only lasted for only three months.
10. Lori, Gator, and Braveheart were characters which of the following '70s animated shows?

Answer: Inch High, Private Eye

Premiering in September 1973, "Inch High, Private Eye" featured Det. Inch High, his niece Lori, her friend, Gator, and Lori's dog, Braveheart. The team fought crime in an unnamed city for the Finkerton Detective Agency. Inch was always on the verge of being fired by his boss, Mr. Finkerton, but always came through in the end by solving whatever case he was working on. "Inch High, Private Eye" was loosely based on the 1960s comedy "Get Smart" starring Don Adams.
