Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Quick Draw McGraw
Answer: Horse
Like most cartoon animals, this horse acted like a person. In this case he was a marshal who traveled the old western United States capturing bad guys. Sometimes he wore a costume and called himself El Kabong, a cross between a singing cowboy and Zorro. Sometimes he hit the bad guy on the head with his guitar.
2. Foghorn Leghorn
Answer: Rooster
This was a rooster patterned after an old radio politician. He was always trying to explain something to someone or playing tricks on the dog who guarded the barnyard. He might say, "That boy, I say if brains were dynamite that boy wouldn't have enough to blow his nose."
3. Pepe Le Pew
Answer: Skunk
This was the famous Warner Brothers skunk who spoke French while romancing a black cat with a white stripe, usually caused by a paint spill. He would grab the cat and kiss her, thinking she was a skunk. One time Sylvester the cat had a white stripe when Pepe showed up.
4. Sylvester
Answer: Cat
Originally Sylvester the cat was someone for Tweety Bird to play tricks on, but sometimes Sylvester tried to catch a kangaroo to eat, thinking it was a large mouse. Junior was Sylvester's son who sometimes appeared in a cartoon to make fun of Sylvester's failed traps.
5. Astro
Answer: Dog
Astro was the pet dog of George Jetson who lived with his family in a space age apartment building in the future. George worked three hours a day pushing buttons at Spacely Space Sprockets. Some of the more amusing stories involved George getting involved with criminals, and Astro, the large dog, would try to run away and accidentally bump into the criminal.
This could've been the inspiration for "Scooby-Doo".
6. Porky
Answer: Pig
One of the earliest characters in Warner Brothers cartoons, Porky started out as a stuttering child in school. As time went on, Porky Pig was an adult, usually running a farm, or the victim of a child who was playing pranks. After Daffy Duck became popular, Porky sometimes laughed at the trouble Daffy got himself into.
7. Daffy
Answer: Duck
Starting out as a nameless duck hunted by Porky, Daffy eventually became a character who played tricks on people, until his victims struck back. Unlike Bugs Bunny, who usually got the upper hand against everyone, Daffy would usually go too far. One time he helped a turkey go on a crash diet so it could avoid becoming Thanksgiving dinner. Meanwhile, Daffy ate the turkey's food and became so fat that the hillbilly couple decided to cook Daffy.
8. Rocky
Answer: Squirrel
Rocket Jet (Rocky) Squirrel was a flying squirrel who was friends with Bullwinkle Moose. They had continuing adventures in a series of short cartoons, usually spoiling the ridiculous plans of spies Boris and Natasha. Live action movies were made based on the characters from "The Bullwinkle Show", including "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle", "Boris and Natasha", and "Dudley-Do-Right".
9. Pixie
Answer: Mouse
Pixie was a mouse who helped his friend Dixie play tricks on a cat named Mr. Jinks. The cartoons were similar to Tom and Jerry, except they could talk. The characters did so much talking that it was refreshing to watch the silent Tom and Jerry again. Mr. Jinks hated "meeces to pieces".
10. Yogi
Answer: Bear
Yogi and his friend Booboo were bears who lived in Jellystone Park and stole picnic baskets. In later years Yogi was involved in spinoff shows including "The Laff-A-Lympics", "Yogi's Ark", and "Yogi's Space Race", involving characters from Hanna-Barbera cartoons in a race with Captain Good who looked like a good guy, but he would press a button and turn into Phantom Phink, a scruffy bad guy.
