In the episode "Obscura", Clark tells Lana about how in eighth grade he was assigned to show Chloe around school; she had just moved from "Metropolis". She invited herself over to the farm and then kissed him. She told him that now that they got that out of the way they should just be friends.

Answer: Lara

In the episode "Memoria", we learn that Lara is not only Clark's biological mother, but it was also his first word.

As Lana is driving away, Lex is harassing her in his car yelling for her to pull over so they can talk. A bus comes down the street and hits Lana's car.

She is killed in the accident. Clark knows that he can't always be there to save her, so he decides that he will never be able to tell her without hurting her.
