Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which all time classic British sitcom had someone ask, "Are you free", on a regular basis?

Answer: Are You Being Served?

Perhaps one of the greatest "situation comedies" of all time, "AYBS" consisted of several cliche archetypes thrust into an "humorous" situation. Some examples include the introduction of security cameras, being forced to spend the night in the department store in which they all worked due to bad weather, or "German Day".
2. What put-upon character was perpetually "eleven minutes late"?

Answer: Reginald Perrin

Later in the series "The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin", Reggie would be 22 minutes late, again because of British Rail. Leonard Rossiter played Reggie, Rigsby in "Rising Damp", and Smyslov in "2001: A Space Odyssey", in one of the movie's few speaking support roles. Anyone who has seen the "Perrin" series can't help but laugh when Smyslov sits down during his scene.
3. What show contained the line, "Baldrick, you wouldn't recognise a subtle plan if it painted itself purple and danced naked on a harpsichord singing 'subtle plans are here again'"?

Answer: Blackadder

My favorite Rowan Atkinson role. There are other great quotes from the series, but I doubt I could get them past my editor. Ok, here's one: "some beans". If you don't know, you should find out.
4. This quote from a British sitcom was usually screamed- "Manuel!"

Answer: Fawlty Towers

As screamed by Basil Fawlty, played by John Cleese. Andrew Sachs played Manuel. Polly was played by Connie Booth, Cleese's wife and co-creator of the show.
5. "You just have to accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue." A great line from what show?

Answer: The Office

A pearl of wisdom from David Brent, played by show creator Ricky Gervais. A later Gervais series, "Extras", depicts a fictional universe showing, in part, what might have happened if Gervais had taken the networks advice to "improve" "The Office".
6. "That's just typical. Five minutes before the most important party of my life and the house is destroyed by a giant sandwich." Rick said this on what show?

Answer: The Young Ones

It would not be inaccurate to say surreal things occasionally happened on "The Young Ones". MTV broadcast the show in 1985, making one of the first non-music shows on the channel.
7. Said indignantly on what British show- "It's Bouquet! B-U-C-K-E-T"?

Answer: Keeping Up Appearances

Hyacinth Bucket desperately and continually trying to advance her social standing. The only other well-known fictional Bucket that leaps to mind is Charlie Bucket. He wound up getting a chocolate factory.
8. "Good moaning, Herr Flock. And von Smellhorsen." We heard this line more than once on what British comedy show?

Answer: 'Allo 'Allo

Officer Crabtree, as played by Arthur Bostrom. The show took place in a small town cafe in France during German occupation in World War 2. Crabtree was an undercover British agent pretending to be a gendarme, to comedic effect.
9. Boy, howdy, it's been tough for me to come up with one single line from this show that captures its essence. Here goes: "This is an ex-parrot!"

Answer: Monty Python's Flying Circus

The Pythons. I couldn't possibly come up with plausible incorrect answers that actually exist. I give myself one internet point for correctly using "it's" and "its" in this clue.
10. "Just because nobody complains doesn't mean all parachutes are perfect." A bit of wisdom from what immortal British comedian?

Answer: Benny Hill

Benny was a master of the one liner. One example includes "I'm not against half naked girls - not as often as I'd like to be." Another would have to be "Girls are like pianos. When they're not upright, they're grand."
