The Gallaghers needed a roof over their head and once Frank told them that Ginger was dead and buried in the backyard, they needed to come up with a plan quick. Fortunately, Veronica worked in a nursing home and was able to use her credentials to get the family in so that they could select an elderly woman to pose as Aunt Ginger.

The woman they found was positively precious and lovely, forming a very fast bond with Debbie, and she played her role perfectly, whether she knew it or not.

As it turns out, Monica and Roberta had come back primarily to snatch up Liam and take him with them. Mandy again felt it necessary to protect Lip, or get retribution after Lip had a sexual encounter with the woman. Mandy used her brothers to help dig a grave within sight of the woman's front door and employed her own unique form of persuasion to get her to leave.

Her choice was between leaving the neighborhood forever or being buried in her yard. And leave she did, as you later see the grave being filled by another murder victim after the killer(s) paid Mandy's brothers to use the "perfectly good hole" that no one wanted to "go to waste."

Carl went so far as to poison Patrick with rat poison, and this prompted Patrick to file a police report.
