Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first Detour of the race was completely one-sided as none of the ten competing teams opted to complete which viable Detour option?

Answer: 'China Cup'

Ending off their second leg in the city of Guangzhou, China, teams encountered a Detour task forcing them to choose either 'Feather Ball' or 'China Cup', and all ten teams elected to put their fates into their own hands by participating in the former over the latter.

In 'Feather Ball', teams had to head to Liwanhu Park to join locals in a hackey-sack-like game in which they needed to join a pair of players and pass a shuttlecock around their group ten times. 'China Cup' would have involved visiting a local sauna center to receive cupping treatment before heading to the Pit Stop at the Shamian Island Promenade.
2. To travel to both Detour options in Malaysia in Leg 3, teams had to ride which of these?

Answer: Raft

Visiting Malaysian Borneo in Leg 3, teams had to spend time on the river's edge building a functioning raft to take them to either 'River Delivery' or 'Run Through the Jungle'. Dave and Connor, Leo and Jamal, Margie and Luke, and Jet and Cord did 'River Delivery' for which they paddled supplies to a local village. Caroline and Jennifer, Flight Time and Big Easy, Brendon and Rachel, Jessica and John, and Meghan and Joey completed 'Run Through the Jungle' which had them travel a bit further to join in a hunting safari and, using a blowpipe, hit a fake target (for each racer). Oh yeah, and everyone who rode on the river also had to travel through rapids to get to their clue at the end.
3. Both Detour options in Leg 4 in Malaysia were held in which of these locations?

Answer: Hotel bar

For their Leg 4 Detour, teams engaged with the nightlife at SkyBar in Kuala Lumpur's Traders Hotel where either they could serve up beats or serve up drinks. In 'Mix Master', teams joined with a scratch coach and learned how to scratch a record for a DJ set. Once they practiced they could show off their skills in front of a crowd and perform seven trials to get their next clue.

In 'Master Mix', teams had to properly pour a pyramid of cocktails without mixing coloured drinks and utilizing a cumbersome method.

The latter task proved tough for most teams (taking three hours for Brendon and Rachel) but the Detours were completed evenly with four finishing 'Mix Master' and four finishing 'Master Mix'.
4. Which team didn't complete either of the Detour options in Sri Lanka in Leg 5?

Answer: Margie and Luke

Arriving on the Sri Lankan coast in Leg 5, teams had to engage with one of two common local tasks. In 'Fishing Pole', Dave and Connor and Jet and Cord hopped onto a pair of fishing stilts and had to catch a fish for each team member and return it to shore for their clue. Flight Time and Big Easy, Leo and Jamal, Brendon and Rachel, Caroline and Jennifer, and Jessica and John went for 'Spin Control' for which they had to learn and perform a traditional dance while spinning discs known as rabans. Margie and Luke, who fell behind at the airport in Malaysia, didn't complete the Detour in this leg, instead moving past it, because they were too far behind.
5. How many teams were able to complete the 'Trunk' Detour option in Sri Lanka in Leg 6 (due to a low quantity of equipment)?

Answer: Four

Leg 6 of the race led teams to the Millennium Elephant Foundation in Sri Lanka, and there they needed to take up one of two elephant-related tasks. Only four teams could complete 'Trunk' in which they had to work directly with elephants, attaching specially-designed chains to logs and having their elephant share in carrying them to a marked truck. Jet and Cord, Leo and Jamal, Jessica and John, and Dave and Connor hauled for this. Flight Time and Big Easy, Caroline and Jennifer, and Brendon and Rachel completed 'Sheets' in which they loaded wheelbarrows with dung and combined it with water and paper scraps to create pulp which they would then use to properly make and dry five sheets of paper.
6. Arriving in Rome, Italy in Leg 7, teams completed either 'Gladiator' or 'Charioteer' near which Roman landmark?

Answer: The Colosseum

Dressing in Ancient Roman costume upon arriving at a spot near the Colosseum, teams had to choose either 'Gladiator' or 'Charioteer'. In 'Gladiator', teams needed to learn the sword skills needed to fight a gladiator and master maneuvers to perform a choreographed fight for the crowd. Jessica and John and Leo and Jamal did this. Brendon and Rachel, Flight Time and Big Easy, Dave and Connor, Jet and Cord, and Caroline and Jennifer completed 'Charioteer' and had to race remote-controlled horses, completing five laps with one racer controlling turns and the other controlling the speed of the horse. If they did so in under one minute thirty, they'd get their clue.
7. Which team utilized an Express Pass to skip one of the donkey-related Detour options in Civita di Bagnoregio, Italy in Leg 8?

Answer: Jet and Cord

Driving to the town of Civita di Bagnoregio, teams ascended the footbridge up the cliff to obtain their Detour task, a choice between riding donkeys around a three-lap course in 'Donkey Run' and completing a wooden donkey puzzle and delivery in 'Donkey Build'.

This Detour caused a number of unique issues. Brendon and Rachel, Dave and Connor, Leo and Jamal, and Flight Time and Big Easy completed 'Donkey Run' while Caroline and Jennifer completed 'Donkey Build'. Jet and Cord didn't complete either, finally opting to use their Express Pass to skip 'Donkey Build' instead.

At the same time, Brendon and Rachel U-Turned Dave and Connor who, in turn, U-Turned Leo and Jamal. Both teams had to return to complete 'Donkey Build'.
8. Only one team voluntarily completed the 'Spanish Steps' Detour task in Seville, Spain in Leg 10. Which team was forced to complete it?

Answer: Jet and Cord

In Leg 10, teams had to use their feet in either 'Spanish Steps' or 'Run With the Ballz', two Detour options with varying tasks. In 'Spanish Steps', Caroline and Jennifer learned the steps to a flamenco to be performed onstage while in 'Run with the Ballz', everyone else wore bumper balls and ran through the streets of Seville aiming to discover three parts of a mystery phrase. Following this, all teams had to locate the Double U-Turn, and it's there that Leo and Jamal forced Jet and Cord to complete the 'Spanish Steps' Detour task.

They were eliminated as a result of the extra Detour. Caroline and Jennifer also used the U-Turn to send Brendon and Rachel to the second task, but since they already passed, it was ineffective.
9. All four remaining teams completed the 'Shoot It' Detour task in England in Leg 11.

Answer: False

Making their way to the Bolesworth Estate in England, teams faced off against a leisurely set of tasks forcing them to 'Shoot It' or 'Boot It'. In 'Shoot It', teams had to use a 12-gauge shotgun and take turns firing to hit sixteen clay pigeons on a range.

In 'Boot It', however, teams had to grab a pair of size-9 or size-11 wellies, fill them with water, and throw them around a marked course to cross a finish line. While three of the teams completed 'Shoot It', Brendon and Rachel completed the 'Boot It' course...twice (since they used the wrong boots the first time).
10. How many Detours were featured in "The Amazing Race 24"?

Answer: Nine

This season featured nine Detours across its twelve legs omitting the selection between two tasks from the first and last legs (in Guangzhou and in Las Vegas) as per custom and also from Leg 9 in Central Switzerland, where teams only faced a Road Block task.

This season also made use of two Double U-Turns, one in Leg 8 and another in Leg 10. One of the Express Passes utilized during this race was used by Jet and Cord to skip a Detour (the other was used by Caroline and Jennifer for a Road Block).
