Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first Detour of the race (in Leg 2), teams either had to sort fish in British Columbia or do what with them?

Answer: Fillet

Visiting Ucluelet Harbour Seafoods near Tofino, British Columbia, the remaining ten teams needed to choose between 'Sharp Eyes' and 'Sharp Knives' in their first Detour task. In 'Sharp Eyes', they had to sort one thousand pounds of fish into five bins depending on their type while in 'Sharp Knives' they had to properly fillet thirty pounds of fish. If they ran out of fish to fillet in the latter task, they would have to complete the 'Sharp Eyes' task anyways. Audrey and Alain, Natalie and Meaghan, Cormac and Nicole, Mickey and Pete, and Pierre and Michel completed 'Sharp Knives' while Rex and Bob, Sukhi and Jinder, Laura and Jackie, Ryan and Rob, and Jen and Shawn finished 'Sharp Eyes'.
2. How many teams completed the 'Master Chef' Detour option in Hong Kong in Leg 3?

Answer: Two

Visiting Hong Kong, China in Leg 3, teams had an opportunity to engage in either the city's culinary ventures or its cultural history. In 'Master Chef', teams headed to Alvin Leung's modern restaurant and had to search the Wan Chai Wet Market for items on a shopping list to get their next clue. Sukhi and Jinder and Laura and Jackie did this. All other teams finished 'Kung Fu Master' in which they had to memorize a kung fu routine to the satisfaction of their trainer. Natalie and Meghan did not complete either task, instead deciding to use their Express Pass to skip it.
3. In Leg 4, teams headed to Macau and, during their Detour task, had the option of collecting stamps or performing which of these?

Answer: A traditional dance

Visiting the historic marketplace of Macau, China, teams were able to join into one of two cultural Detour options. In 'Stamp It', Sukhi and Jinder, Alain and Audrey, and Mickey and Pete raced around the streets near the Ruins of St. Paul searching for six stamp stations at which they could fill their scrolls with the stamps needed to get their next clue.

In 'Stomp It', Natalie and Meghan, Rex and Bob, Cormac and Nicole, Ryan and Rob, and Pierre and Michel learned a traditional dance in Senado Square, performing it to get their next clue.
4. In the 'Ride a Sled' Detour task in Leg 5, teams needed to complete the task in what Canadian territory?

Answer: Yukon Territory

Flying eight time zones across the Pacific Ocean, teams headed to the Yukon to complete their tasks in Leg 5, approaching a pair of mountaineering tasks. In one, 'Ride a Sled', teams needed to leash up three sled dogs and ride three laps each around a marked course to get their clues. Sukhi and Jinder, Ryan and Rob, Alain and Audrey, and Natalie and Meghan completed this task.

In 'Make Your Bed', teams had to hike into the woods and set up a campsite (with fire) to complete their task. Pierre and Michel, Mickey and Pete, Rex and Bob, and Cormac and Nicole did this one.
5. During the 'Puck It' Detour in Winnipeg in Leg 6, were Natalie and Meghan first to complete the task and receive their clue?

Answer: No

'Puck It', performed on the rink in Winnipeg's MTS Center, was completed by Natalie and Meghan, Sukhi and Jinder, Pierre and Michel, and Mickey and Pete. In this task, the teams needed to shoot five pucks on the goal, to get their clue and despite Natalie and Meghan being team members on the Olympic Gold Medal-winning women's hockey team, they were not the last to leave the rink (likely due to uncustomized sticks and skates). Rex and Bob and Ryan and Rob completed 'Pinch it' in which they made pierogis.
6. In Leg 7 in Normandy, France, how many teams completed the 'Tell It' Detour task involving the Bayeux Tapestry?

Answer: Two

Only Natalie and Meaghan and Pierre and Michel ended up attempting this task (the latter only after quitting the alternate option). In Normandy, teams had a choice between 'Show It' and 'Tell It'. In 'Show It', teams had to visit a local horse ranch and properly clean and braid a horse's mane to get their next clue.

In 'Tell It', teams instead had to visit Bayeux and properly order several portions of the Bayeux Tapestry to get their next clue.
7. Were any teams affected by the Double U-Turn found in Paris, France in Leg 8?

Answer: Yes

The Double U-Turn was found in front of Centre Georges Pompidou after teams completed either 'Haute Couture' or 'Plat du Jour'. In the former, teams had to visit Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne and pin a haute couture outfit to a mannequin while in the latter, teams searched for cafes in the Marais District and delivered items to waiting diners.

While Alain and Audrey and Ryan and Rob were both U-Turned by other teams (Pierre and Michel and Sukhi and Jinder respectively), neither placed last.
8. In the ninth leg of the race, teams visited Montreal and had a chance to eat which of the following foods?

Answer: Grilled cheese

Reaching the Detour clue at Atwater Market, four teams decided to pursue the Detour itself (while Sukhi and Jinder went for the Fast Forward). While Alain and Audrey went off to complete 'Flamed' (a task in which they needed to go glass-beading at a local gallery), the other three teams went for 'Grilled' in which they had to locate a food truck and memorize ten different cheeses, baked into grilled cheeses, by taste and name.

When they had their fill and named off all ten they could continue on. Ultimately, Ryan and Rob chose to switch over to 'Flamed' after thirty-two failed attempts with the cheese.
9. In Leg 10 (in P.E.I.), all five remaining teams dealt with which of the following?

Answer: Mussels

While teams were able to count potatoes for the 'Mass' Detour task in Leg 10, none of them completed that option, instead opting to visit Prince Edward Aqua Farms to complete 'Mussels'. For this task, the teams needed to strip one thousand eight hundred pounds of mussels off the socks they'd been growing on for two years.

When they filled three bins with mussels they would be able to continue on with the leg, heading to the Pit Stop in Rustico.
10. Leg 11 was the final leg of the race to contain a Detour task. In which province was it completed?

Answer: New Brunswick

In Leg 11, teams headed to New Brunswick for their penultimate set of tasks, most of which took teams along the Atlantic Coastline. Visiting the Hopewell Rocks, all four teams ended up completing the 'By Sea' Detour option, requiring that they memorize and organize nautical flags to spell out a specific message.

This, of course, required very strong attention to detail. Had teams not done this option, they could've searched for GPS geocache locations in the 'By Land' Detour task.
