"Dexter" 1.5 "Love American Style" Quiz

When examining the crime scene at the hospital with Dexter, Masuka says: "We're all going to get histoplasmosis from all their droppings in the dust. We'll be coughing up blood, skin lesions, mouth sores. You ever hear of rat bite fever?"

At this point Doakes walks past and grumpily states: "Masuka! What'd I say about the rats?"

Later in the episode Masuka is heard to say: "I found hair on this one that doesn't belong to Tucci. Rat hair. I probably picked up a parasite just...". He is interrupted by an angry Doakes: "Don't test me, Masuka".

Answer: Ernesto

It turns out that the trafficker who had arranged Ernesto's 'safe' passage had demanded more money, which Jelena didn't have. Jelena was told Ernesto had been returned to Cuba, but later in the episode we learn that Ernesto had met a watery end at sea.

The Coyote's character name was Jorge Castillo. Together with his wife Valerie, he arranges for the import of Cubans. When they arrive he scams their family into paying more money, otherwise he returns them to their home country. Of course, the problem is, he does not return them at all.

As for the alternatives, Bulldog is the nickname of Bob Briscoe, the sportscaster on "Frasier". The Barracuda was a fictional nurse character in a "M*A*S*H" episode, offered to Major Stanley Robbins in return for performing a nose reduction operation. The Shark is the nickname of golfer Greg Norman.

Rita is talking to Dexter about Jelena's anguish in wanting her missing husband to appear. She asks Dexter: "Have you ever longed for anything like that?"

Dexter is heard thinking to himself that Rita wants something from him: "Ever since we had sex, she assumes we've taken it to the next level. She doesn't know yet, I don't have a next level". He replies: "Well, when I was a kid, I would killed for an Atari".

Rita looks disappointed. Dexter continues to theorise about the likelihood of his future relationship: "Eventually she'll call me a science project - slam the door in my face".

Dexter goes onto say that his restoration is almost complete, and she's a beauty. Castillo replies that he doesn't do individual sales, but he could give Dexter the number of a Corvette shop that he deals with.

Dexter excuses himself by saying he has a personal project he is working on that night. LaGuerta approaches during the conversation and asks Angel if he has the list of prioritised witnesses, as she cannot deal with 800 anonymous tips. Angel says: "I'm workin' on it".

LaGuerta replies: "Well, how about you stop talking and earn your bump?" Angel grins at Dexter as LaGuerta leaves and utters one word: "Sexy!"

Answer: "Why would I want to do that?"

Dexter coldly replies: "Why would I want to do that?" and Mindy walks away, obviously disappointed. Dexter's father Harry has overheard the conversation and says: "She wanted you to ask her to the dance. You have to learn their signals". Dexter replies that he doesn't really like girls and that he just wants to be alone. Harry replies: "Most normal people don't".

Answer: Rudy

It turns out that Rudy is not exactly what he seems to be, but I cannot reveal more otherwise it would be a spoiler for following quizzes! I can offer this tidbit: for quite some time during season one, Rudy knows a lot more about Dexter and Debra than they realise.

Answer: Blindfold

Much to Doakes' chagrin, Debra suggests to Tucci that a blindfold may help him to remember details about his attacker. This follows her observation that closing her eyes sometimes helps her to remember things.

Doakes' concern is based on the fact that Tucci had been blindfolded by his attacker, but eventually he agrees that this is their only remaining hope of obtaining information, and it is partially successful. In fact, it is Doakes' tie that gets used as the blindfold.

Debra does supply a hooker to Tony later on - one of the street workers she got to know when she was working undercover in vice - as Tony has been lamenting that with his disfigurements, no-one will ever find him attractive again.

Answer: Caesar

When Doakes points out that Perry was on the grounds of the same hospital where Mr Tucci was found, and observes that he was alone, Perry states: "It was just me and Caesar, my dog. He likes abandoned buildings - Caesar's a ratter".

Perry irritates Doakes further by observing that one of the mugshots he is examining "looks like an actor from that John Singleton movie". Doakes gets ticked off when Perry observes that the suspect was "wearing a cap", and then starts talking about the technical aspects of the closed circuit camera in the interview room.

Answer: "Thanks for bringing him home"

Much to Dexter's embarrassment/annoyance, it turns out that Angel had been separated from Nina for some time. Furthermore, Angel had not mentioned to Nina that he had received a pay rise, a fact that Dexter inadvertently blurted out.

Nina advises Dexter that she and Angel are separated, so Dexter has to take Angel home to his place. In the morning, Angel says to Dexter: "I guess I had one too many hey?", to which Dexter replies: "And about ten more".

Answer: Be prepared

As Dexter packs up his tools of trade for his coming night's work, he is heard to reflect: "Be prepared, it's my motto. The Boy Scouts and I have that in common". He then adds as an afterthought: "Of course, there's no merit badge for tonight's outing".

Of the other choices: "Who dares wins" is the motto of the British S.A.S. and "Think outside the bun" is a motto of Taco Bell. "Forward, upward, onward together" is the national motto of the Bahamas!

Dexter lures Jorge into a trailer with pictures of some of the Cubans that Jorge had killed. He then incapacitates him with an injection in the side of the neck.

As Dexter loads the bodies into his car, he is heard to think: "Valerie got short shrift, but all in all it was a very good night". He had not prepared for two killings, and therefore had to rush his work on her.

Answer: Mercedes-Benz

The car is a Mercedes-Benz 300D to be more precise. The car has no number plate or key lock. It is not stated in the episode how long the boy had been there.
