Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Name one of the two hosts of "Finders Keepers."

Answer: Larry Toffler

Eure hosted from 1987-88, and Toffler hosted from 1988-89.
2. The show produced episodes over a time frame of three years. Which three years did it cover?

Answer: 1987-1989

There was a pilot filmed in 1986, but it does not appear to ever have been aired.
3. Which of these unusual events has NOT happened on an episode of "Finders Keepers"?

Answer: Host accidentally gives away an answer during Hidden Pictures round

Neither host has had to throw out a question because of mistakenly giving out the answer. In an early Toffler episode, announcer Harry Stevens actually curses when describing the Kitchen. The error with the Room Romp timer happened during Eure's version; Toffler was slimed in one episode as he entered the Kids' Room.
4. What is the official name of the 90-second bonus round?

Answer: Room Romp

5. During the Hidden Pictures rounds, the teams earned the right to search rooms by finding smaller pictures hidden within the big drawing on a three-sided, rotating board. This type of board was also used on the original "Family Feud." What is the name for this type of board?

Answer: Trilon

The "Family Feud" board used small flippable panels to reveal the answers during the main round, and electronic graphics during the bonus round. "Finders Keepers" used hand-drawn artwork.
6. In the front game rounds, earning all eight clues and winning all eight rooms would earn the team the maximum possible $1000. This was never reached, however; what was the highest score ever earned by a team?

Answer: $975

Only a handful of teams ever reached the $800 mark. The $975 record was earned by the blue team in a Toffler episode, leaving a rather annoyed red team with only $25 (and the consolation prizes) to take home.
7. In the "Finders Keepers" logo is a boy lifting one of the letters and uncovering some sort of prize. What letter is he looking under?

Answer: n

The commercial bumper occasionally shows an animated sequence of the boy crawling onto the logo and lifting the letter. He pushes the "e" and "s" with his feet, but the prize is under the "n."
8. Which of these men was never an announcer on either version of the show?

Answer: Henry J

Henry J was the announcer on another kids' show, "Get the Picture." Harvey and Joe Conklin were announcers on Eure's version (along with Bob Lorman). Harry Stevens was from Toffler's episodes.
9. In Wesley Eure's version of the Hidden Pictures rounds, teams identified the hidden pictures by circling them with an electronic pen. In Toffler's version, teams had the possible clues drawn onto small, stick-on cutouts which attached to the board. What is the name of these stick-on pieces of plastic?

Answer: Colorform

These stupid things were particularly popular in the '80s. Why the producers chose to go from electronics to plastic cutouts is beyond me.
10. The bonus round lasted 90 seconds; what is the shortest amount of time a team took to win it?

Answer: 40 seconds

49 seconds and 63 seconds are the second- and third-best times, both of which came from Toffler's version. 65 seconds is the fourth-best, coming from Eure's version.
11. Who wrote the music for "Finders Keepers" (both versions)?

Answer: Kalehoff

Edd Kalehoff's terrific music package for the show is a very wanted one in the world of game-show theme collectors, but nobody has found any clean (audience-free) versions of the music. Edd also wrote the music for other Nickelodeon shows, including "Double Dare," "Think Fast" and "Make the Grade."
12. The tiebreaker round was played inside the rooms in the house.

Answer: False

It was played on the main game board, which was separate from the house. Teams played a best-of-three round of Hidden Pictures.
13. Which of these is NOT one of the many distractions, booby traps and surprises which could appear in a room while the room was being searched?

Answer: Flashing lights

The lights in the rooms sometimes flashed (such as when the room was revealed as the Instant Prize Room), but not when a room was being searched. On the other hand, the other three distractions sometimes went off in certain rooms, serving only to get in the way.
14. Distractions, Part 2: More distractions, booby traps and surprises. Like the previous question, pick which one of these was NOT something a team might encounter while in a room.

Answer: Shaking floor

Objects in the room rattled now and then, but never the whole room/floor. Spiders from the ceiling sometimes came down in the Jungle room, which Larry was never too thrilled about.
15. Which of these game shows has Larry Toffler never appeared on as a CONTESTANT?

Answer: Weakest Link

Toffler appeared on "Greed" and, as team captain, won $500,000 for himself and his team. On "Debt" he won the game and the "Get Out of Debt" bonus round. On "Russian Roulette," he was dropped in Round 2.
16. Which of these game shows has Wesley Eure never appeared on as a panelist/guest?

Answer: Press Your Luck

Eure was on a few episodes of "Match Game PM" in 1979. He was on "Password Plus" in July of 1979 alongside Elizabeth Montgomery.
17. What other game show did Harvey announce for?

Answer: Double Dare

Harvey announced for "Double Dare" but not for "Family Double Dare" as his wife had recently had a child. "Get the Picture" was announced by Henry J; "Make the Grade" was Maria Milito; and "Think Fast" was James Eopollo and Henry J.
18. Of the three announcers, only Harvey was ever seen on-camera. At which of these locations was he never seen?

Answer: Fairy Tale Room

Harvey was often seen in the audience saying goodbye before the credits. In one episode, he came out of a coffin in Dracula's Den wrapped as a mummy; later in the episode Eure and the kids found him in the Kitchen, ironing his "bandages."
19. Add the total number of rooms in the house to the number of rooms played during the bonus round and give the answer.

Answer: 14

20. What is the phrase spoken by the host to tell the team to begin searching a room?

Answer: Find it!

Uttered by both Toffler and Eure, this phrase has become practically synonymous with "Finders Keepers."
21. Like "Double Dare," "Finders Keepers" originally had both teams dressed in the same color outfits.

Answer: False

"Finders Keepers" always had one blue team and one red team. "Double Dare" originally had two red teams, until it became syndicated in 1988.
22. During which host's version of the show did the room lights flash to the beat of the music (during commercial bumpers and end credits)?

Answer: Eure's version

During Larry Toffler's version, the light sequence was random.
23. Which host was known for wearing sweaters/sweater vests on occasion?

Answer: Wesley Eure

Wesley was more informal in the first season. During his second season he usually wore a suit and tie. Larry Toffler usually wore a relatively informal jeans and a long-sleeved shirt. During the episode he got slimed, however, Larry's clothes got so messy that he had to switch to a "Finders Keepers" T-shirt.
24. This question covers both hosts' versions of the show. Of the four different bathroom sets used on the show, how many had a toilet in the room?

Answer: Zero

Once in a while you might hear the sound effect of a toilet flushing being played in, but a toilet was never actually seen in any bathroom.
25. (This question applies to both hosts' versions of the show.) When the host and team entered one of the rooms in the house, they would occasionally run into a character related to the room, like a mummy in Dracula's Den.

Answer: True

This happened now and then, especially in Toffler's version. There might be a lifeguard in the Beach Room, an artist in the Artist's Loft or even a caveman in the Stone Age Living Room/Caveman's Lair.
