Television D-G: 'F' Trivia Questions

1. In what country (and in the language of which country) was "Feria: The Darkest Light" filmed?

From Quiz
"Feria" - Gates of Hell

Answer: Spain

This programme was shot in Spain in Spanish. Filming occurred in Minas de Riotinto (in the province of Huelva) and in Zahara de la Sierra (in the province of Cádiz). The Spanish-language title is "Feria: La luz más oscura." In Medieval Latin, "feria" meant a market day or festival. In Ecclesiastical Latin, it means any weekday on which no feast (festal) is observed.

2. Sam learns of a new extremist threat aiming to create a world without borders. What is their name?

From Quiz The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Answer: The Flag Smashers

Sam is sent to Tunisia at the start of this story, specifically because he needs to assist the American military in protecting a liaison from the LAF, a criminal organization with high-powered weaponry. The activity needs to be subtle; they can't violate any treaties. The problem is that when Sam reaches the plane in mid-flight, he realizes it's already been hijacked. Sam manages to infiltrate the plane and engage with the enemies, but the pilot is killed by stray gunfire in the process. The men inside nab their captive and leap out of the plane in wingsuits, and what was a fist fight becomes a mid-air gun battle and helicopter through the canyons of the Tunisian desert. Sam nabs his protective target before reuniting with his contact, Joaquin Torres, back on the ground though the leader of the LAF, Georges Batroc, leaps to safety. Over lunch, Torres talks to Sam about another possible threat appearing on internet message boards-- the Flag Smashers. They're a group that believed the world was better during The Blip. They want a unified world without borders, but their actions are dangerous. Torres promises to keep his eye on the information while Sam heads off to Washington.

3. The second series opens with Fleabag and her family having dinner at a nice restaurant to celebrate Dad's engagement to Godmother. We are introduced to a new character who is dining with them. Who?

From Quiz "Fleabag": Series Two

Answer: The Priest

The second series of "Fleabag" takes place a year after the events of the first series, and opens in a restaurant bathroom. Fleabag stands at the sink with blood all over her nose and mouth. As she cleans herself up, she breaks the fourth wall and tells the camera, "This is a love story." The family has gathered to celebrate Dad's engagement to Godmother. There is an unknown man sitting with them, between Fleabag and Godmother. "Don't know who this guy is," Fleabag tells the camera, after he makes a quick toast. We come to learn that the man is the priest who will be marrying Dad and Godmother. Fleabag tries to sum him up in a quick line ("cool, sweary priest") but as we soon discover, he is more complex than Fleabag initially gives him credit for. Phoebe Waller-Bridge explains that she was motivated to create the Priest character out of a desire to pit Fleabag against someone she couldn't reduce to a stereotype, like she does with almost everyone in the first series. "She considers herself to be able to see people very, very quickly at their core, and it was really exciting - the idea of her meeting somebody who she couldn't define," she explains.

4. The show employs a theatrical device known as direct address, which involves Fleabag "breaking the fourth wall" on numerous occasions. What does this entail?

From Quiz "Fleabag": Series One

Answer: Fleabag addressing the camera/audience directly

The series was adapted from the famed one-woman play of the same name, in which Phoebe Waller-Bridge spends most of its 80 minute run addressing the audience directly, a common device in such solo performances. The fourth wall is a theatrical convention - an imagined boundary separating the actors on stage from the audience. The convention operates similarly to a one-way mirror - the audience can see through the fourth wall and observe the events unfolding on stage, but the actors proceed unaware of the audience. When a performance breaks that illusion - like when an actor addresses the audience - it is known as "breaking the fourth wall". Fleabag breaks the fourth wall constantly, interrupting her life with quick asides to the camera to share her inner-most thoughts and observations. The device lets us into her world and allows her to quickly build a rapport with the audience, which is useful because she's not the most sympathetic of characters (she exhibits loads of questionable behaviour throughout the series). We quickly become co-conspirators with Fleabag in her adventures, which adds to the enjoyment - it's fun to be let in on a secret - but it's just the illusion of intimacy, as we eventually learn that Fleabag is something of an unreliable narrator in that she has a secret that she is hiding from us. As writer-performer Phoebe Waller-Bridge explained: "I knew I wanted to write about a young, sex-obsessed, angry, dry-witted woman, but the main focus of the process was her direct relationship with her audience and how she tries to manipulate and amuse and shock them, moment to moment, until she eventually bares her soul."

5. What is the surname of the central family in this series?

From Quiz Take a Seat for "Friday Night Dinner"

Answer: Goodman

The Goodman's comprise of brothers Johnny and Adam who visit their mum, Jackie, and father, Martin, every Friday night for their dinner, though nothing seems to go smoothly for them.

6. The death of which family member led to Callie and Jude being placed into foster care?

From Quiz "The Fosters" Seasons 1 and 2

Answer: Mother

Callie was ten years old when their mother died in a car crash. Jude's father had been driving under the influence, so he was sent to prison. Callie and Jude had been placed in many foster homes over the years. The first episode showed Callie in juvenile detention. She'd been sent there after damaging her foster father's car. He'd been hurting Jude, her little brother, and Callie lost control. Maia Mitchell was the actress who played Callie. She was born in Australia in 1993. Hayden Byerly played Jude. Prior to this role, he played Micah on "Parenthood".

7. What kind of servant does Rin summon in episode 0?

8. Captain Wilton Parmenter has no idea he's inept as the commander of F Troop. In fact, he's proud to live up to his family's expectations as a great military leader. What did he do to earn his first medal, at the end of the Civil War?

From Quiz F Troop

Answer: Rallied soldiers to charge toward victory

He was only ordered to pick up some laundry, but while riding to his duty, the captain began sneezing, which other officers interpreted as an order to charge. He saved the day, earning him the title of "The Scourge of Appomattox" as well as a medal of honor. He quickly won a second medal, a purple heart, when he was stabbed by the pin of the first medal as it was presented to him. Thanks to his heroics, he was also awarded the dubious honor of commanding F Troop out west. A song summarizing his heroism, written by Irving Taylor, was sung at the beginning of each first-season show.

9. The opening scenes show Ian Fleming and his wife Ann snorkelling near his estate in Jamaica in 1952. What is the name of Fleming's estate, which is also the name of a James Bond film?

From Quiz "Fleming" - Episode One

Answer: Goldeneye

Fleming purchased the land in 1946 and built his three bedroom house there. He wrote all the James Bond books in that house. A special clause in his employment contract with "The Sunday Times", allowed him to spend three months holiday, every year, in Jamaica. Fleming never authored a book with the title "Goldeneye". The film with the same name was the first in the Bond series not to be based on a book by Fleming. "Goldfinger", "Thunderball" and "Moonraker" are books by Fleming that were made into James Bond films.

10. On the television version of "Father Knows Best" Who portrayed James "Jim" Anderson, Sr. - the father?

From Quiz Father Knows Best
