We first saw Norman laying in his bed. Norman left his room looking for his mother. Norman found his father dead in their garage. A shelf had fallen on top of him. He was surrounded by open paint cans from the shelf. The cans had made little pools around Norman's dad. Norman ran to get his mother; she seemed almost irritated when Norman found her. He told her to hurry and come see. It appeared as if Norma already knew her husband was dead. She did try and console her grieving son.

It had been six months since the death of Sam, Norman's dad. Norma used the insurance money from Sam's death to buy the motel and former owner's house. She made Norman keep his eyes closed when she pulled into the motel's parking lot. We first saw the sign advertising the motel before we saw the actual motel or house.

The sign from the motel had a large piece of the Captain's wheel on top of it as a decoration.

Norma was busy preparing the evening meal for Norman and herself. Her cell rang and she looked to see who was calling. She did not answer the phone right away, but finally reluctantly did. It was her oldest son, Dylan, on the other end. Dylan was upset because Norma moved and didn't let him know. Norma asked him what he wanted and he told he needed money. Dylan had lost his job recently. Norma hung up on her son while he was still talking.

Miss Watson was not only a teacher to Norman, but an advisor as well. She had reviewed Norman's transcripts and was impressed with his test scores. She was not however impressed with his grades. She encouraged Norman to lay down some roots and try out for a school team.

She suggested track to Norman and he seemed to like the idea. Miss Watson said she would tell the track coach to expect Norman after school.

Norman was on the front porch cleaning the rug with a broom. It was apparent that the rug had not been cleaned in awhile because large amounts of dirt and dust came off it. Keith called out to Norman and then started to yell at him. Keith was upset over losing the hotel and house in foreclosure. Norma then came out and after a heated argument with Keith told him to get off her property.

Bradley came to Norman's home to invite him to the library to study. At least that was what Bradley told Norma Bates. Norma told Bradley and her friends Norman had to stay in for the night. Norman and Norma got into an argument and Norman stormed off to his bedroom.

While in his room, Norman texted Bradley to wait for him. Norman snuck out his bedroom window and met Bradley and her friends by her friend's car. Norman spent the majority of his time at the party alone. Bradley saw him by himself and went to talk to him.

Keith broke into Norma's house and attacked her. He kicked Norma in the stomach and knocked her down. Norma raised her hand to defend herself, but Keith used the razor knife to cut Norma's hand. He then sat on top of Norma to hold her down. He used the knife to cut a piece of tape to cover her mouth. Norman came to Norma's rescue by hitting Keith on the head from behind. Norman left the room to get the first aid kit and when he returned Keith was dead. Norma had stabbed him because he made a rude remark.

Norman and Norma got the linens from all the motel's rooms. Norma told Norman they would use them to clean up all the blood. The two used the linens to soak up the large pools of blood. Norma told her son to change out of his clothes and get rid of them.

She also told him to go clean himself up. The pair used the comforter from one of the hotel rooms to carry Keith from the house to the hotel. They placed Keith's body in the tub until they could get rid of it.

Norman was eating lunch in the scene cafeteria when he noticed some of Keith's blood on his shoe. Norman became ill and vomited in a trash can. Emma approached Norman while he was vomiting. She told him to make sure he was finished and not to let embarrassment stop him. Emma then offered Norman a mint to settle his stomach. Emma asked Norman if he was alright before she walked away. Emma and Norman became good friends, but it was clear Emma was attracted to Norman.

Norma ran into Norman's room and told him to follow her. She turned on the new hotel sign for Norman to see. The sign said Bates Motel in blue neon letters. Norma told her sign she specifically chose the color blue for him. The pair stared at the sign from the window of their house. Norma assured Norman everything was going to be alright for them.
