In the beginning of the episode, Norman was turning a flashlight on and off as he read a book he had found in one of the hotel's rooms. The book depicted a girl who was being held captive against her own will. As Norman turned the pages of the book, he continued turning the flashlight on and off. Norman heard the doorbell ring and hid the book under his mattress.

He put the flashlight back in the tool belt he had concealed under his bed. The belt was once the property of the former owner of the house and motel, Keith Summers. Norma had killed Keith after he assaulted her verbally and physically.

Norma's eldest son, Dylan, was the one who rang the doorbell. By the look on Norma's face as she opened the door, Dylan was not a good surprise. A little later on Norma was standing over the stove as she cooked Norman's eggs. Dylan walked in while his mom and brother were talking about the length of his stay. Norma plated up Norman's breakfast and offered to cook Dylan some breakfast too.

He declined and poured himself a cup of coffee.

Ms. Watson, Norman's language arts teacher, assigned her students the task of evaluating a classic poem. She wanted them to say why the classic poem was still relevant. She also told them to find a partner to complete the assignment. Emma approached Norman and asked if he would be her partner.

She suggested they meet the next day at eleven o'clock. She then told Norman she would meet him at his place. This was more of a command from Emma than a request.

Norma told Dylan if he was going to stay with them, he would have to earn his keep. She told her oldest son the linens she ordered had arrived. She gave him the keys to her car to go pick up the linens. Later on we saw Norma's car with the linens were piled up in the back window. Dylan had stopped at a strip club to get a drink.

Answer: Bradley's dad was burned severely and in the Intensive Care Unit.

Earlier that day, Bradley and Norman were talking about the night before. Bradley asked Norman why he left the party. As the two spoke, a car came speeding towards them. Bradley was horrified when she realized it was her father's car. The car crashed on the opposite side of the road from where Bradley and Norman stood. Norman ran behind Bradley as she raced to her father's car. Norman, with a great deal of effort, was able to open the car door. Bradley was terrified to see her father was severely burned. Norman later attempted to visit Bradley in the hospital, but was stopped by Bradley's boyfriend.

Answer: Norma got the money from her deceased husband's insurance policy.

Dylan and Norma were having an argument that started because Dylan came home late. Dylan questioned Norma on where she got the money to buy not only the house and hotel, but her new car as well. She told her son it was from her late husband, Sam's, insurance policy. Norma told Dylan that Sam sold insurance for a living and was well covered. Sam had passed away due to an accident in the family home. From the look on Dylan's face, you could tell he thought it might not have been a accident.

Emma had come to the house to complete her language arts assignment with Norman. Dylan answered the door and invited Emma in. Norman introduced Emma to his mother. Norma started asking questions almost immediately. She mainly focused on Emma's illness. Emma told Norma she had cystic fibrosis and what that meant. Norma asked Emma how long she was expected to live. Dylan rolled his eyes while Norma asked the question. Emma did not hesitate with her answer; she told Norma the age was 27.

Deputy Shelby was extremely fond of Norma Bates. He apologized to Norma for the actions of Sheriff Romero from the previous night. Zack Shelby asked Norma out for a cup of coffee to make amends for Romero's treatment. It turned out Norma was just as attracted to Zack as he was to her. Zack asked Norma if she would like to meet him at a festival the town was holding. He told her he could not ask her officially due to her being questioned by the Sheriff.

Mike does a wonderful job with this role. He plays the sweet and charming local law man perfectly. It is not until later that we see the dark side of the character. Mike's duality with the roles makes the show that much better.

Dylan had Norma's number listed in his phone under a derogotary name. Norman told his brother the phone was ringing. Norman commented that the derogotary name was calling. Dylan picked up the phone and said hello to his mother. Norman became instantly upset over Dylan having their mother listed that way.

The two brothers brawled for a few seconds after Norman attempted to attack Dylan. Dylan turned his back on Norman who had picked up the meat tenderizer. Norman tried to hit Dylan from behind, but Dylan saw him coming. Dylan then proceeded to beat his brother up.

Emma drove an orange Volkswagen beetle. We saw it when she and Norman drove to the mountains. The pair were looking for the girl who was the subject of the book Norman had found. The two of them were looking for the grave site for the girl. She had apparently died from a drug overdose.

They did find the shed where the girl was supposed to be buried. However, they were not able to investigate it because they were being chased by gunmen. The men were protecting the illegal fields of drugs that was the local economy.

They were able to make it back to the car and sped off.
