Each has exposed Radin to what he thinks is unjustified humiliation. He builds a bomb shelter in the basement of his business complex, equipped with videos and sound effects in an attempt to make them think a nuclear attack is in progress.

He will let them stay in his shelter only if they apologize for what they did to him. Each one, however, declines to do so and after they leave, he thinks there is actually an attack.

He rushes from his shelter to find, from his point of view, the world destroyed when actually everything is normal. He has been driven insane by their refusal to grovel to him.

Miller learns that Sykes made a death threat against him - to reach up and grab Miller if Miller ever ventured near his grave. To prove to themselves that Miller isn't the coward they suspect, they bet Miller that he doesn't have the fortitude to go to Sykes' grave. Determined to win the bet, Miller goes to the grave at night and sticks his knife in the dirt to prove he had been there.

When he rises to leave, he can't stand up - it's like something is holding him down. The next day some people find Miller dead on top of the grave; his knife stuck through his coat into the ground.
