Archibald Beechcroft (Shelley Berman) thinks everyone else is annoying and that the world would be a better place if everyone vanished. After reading a book on the power of the mind, he wishes everyone away only to find he is bored. He then thinks up a bunch of people that look and act like him, but finds he can't stand that either, so he returns everything the way it originally was, a wiser man.

Colonel Donlen and two other officers, Corey and Pierson, are the only survivors of their rocket's crash landing. They have five gallons of water between themselves, so reconnaissance to find more is imperative. Corey, a hot head, thinks if he offs the other two, his chances of surviving will be greatly increased.

When Pierson doesn't return from his mission, Donlen and Corey set out to look for him, but they find Pierson dead, but had managed to draw a cross symbol in the sand. Donlen and Corey argue and Corey kills him. Setting off on his own, he climbs to a high ridge and looks down a highway with a route marker and telephone poles - the cross symbol Pierson had drawn.

They were on Earth the whole time in the Nevada desert.

Woodrow Mulligan (Buster Keaton) works as a janitor in an inventor's lab and wishes he could live in a future world he thinks would be a paradise. He uses a helmet created by the inventor to travel 70 year into the future, but finds life too noisy and hectic.

He meets another inventor, Rollo (Stanley Adams), who wants to use the helmet to go back to Mulligan's time where he believes life will be quieter and simpler. Together they use the helmet to go back to 1890, but Rollo thinks 1890 is primitive with no modern conveniences. Each realize they are best suited to live in their own times. Mulligan then uses the helmet to send Rollo back to his own time.
4. A retiring schoolmaster learns a lesson from former students.

Answer: The Changing of the Guard

Donald Pleasence plays Professor Fowler, teacher at a boy's prep school, who is being forcibly retired. Devastated and believing he has made no difference in his student's lives or the world at large, he plans on suicide. Suddenly he hears the school bell and sees former students, who are now deceased, in the classroom.

They each tell how Fowler's lessons inspired them and contributed to them performing heroic acts. Fowler is satisfied that his life did make a difference and he's now content to retire.

Robert Lansing is Commander Stansfield, an astronaut chosen for a long mission in outer space. Just before the launch, he meets and falls in love with Sandra Horn (Mariette Hartley). His CO explains that in space, Standfield's aging process will be greatly slowed and he'll remaian relatively young, but when he returns, Sandra will be an old woman. During the flight, Stansfield takes himself out of hibernation so he can be as old as Sandra on returning. Due to failed communication, Stansfield doesn't learn that in the meantime, Sandra put herself into hibernation so she would stay as young as she thinks Stansfield will be.

He comes back an old man, but Sandra is still a young woman.

Bollie Jackson (Ivan Dixon), a has-been boxer, enters the ring with an injured hand but wins the bout anyway. His young friend, Henry (Steven Perry), who believes in magic, says it was because he made a "big tall wish". Bollie dismisses the child's belief saying he won because of his own ability.

Henry says if Bollie doesn't believe it, it won't be true. Bollie suddenly finds himself back in the ring and counted out. When Bollie returns to his dressing room, Henry says he won't be making any more wishes. Bollie has destroyed the child's faith in miracles.

Jack Carson is fast-talking used car salesman, Harvey Hunnicut. He buys a wreck of a Model A from a man that insists the car is haunted. Harvey soon discovers he is compelled to tell the honest truth, therefore he can't sell any of his cars. He finally hits on the idea that selling it to to a foreign diplomat as a typical American car to use as propaganda knowing the new owner will have to tell the truth.

He manages to sell it to the Russian Premier!

Jana Loren (Inger Stevens) feels that her parents are becoming too dependent on their robot servants. She gives them an ultimatum - dismantle them or she will leave home. Then she announces that she is seeing a young man and may get married and raise a family.

Her parent's alarm makes her suspicious and she looks for childhood photos of herself in the family album, but can't find any. Then she realizes she is also a robot built by Dr. Loren (John Hoyt). He has no option but to re-program her into being a housemaid.
9. A soldier discovers he can tell who is going to die in the next battle.

Answer: The Purple Testament

Lieutenant Fitzgerald (William Reynolds) has the ability to tell beforehand which of the men will die in battle because he sees a strange light on their faces. His friend, Captain Riker (Dick York) scoffs when told until Fitzgerald sees the light on Riker's face. Just before battle, Fitzgerald looks in a mirror and sees that strange light on himself.

He gets in a jeep and is warned about land mines in the road. He drives off and a few minutes later the sound of an explosion is heard.
10. A meek librarian finds out he is scheduled for execution because of his job.

Answer: The Obsolete Man

In a dystopian society, all religion and book reading has been declared illegal. Romney Wordsworth (Burgess Meredith) is a librarian, so his job is declared obsolete and he is sentenced to be executed in manner of his own choosing. One of his requests is that his execution be broadcast world-wide.

He invites the Chancellor (Fritz Weaver) to his apartment then informs him that a bomb will explode at midnight. He locks the door, trapping the Chancellor inside stating that it will prove who is stronger - the will of the State or the individual.

At first the Chancellor is calm, but as midnight approaches he grows hysterical. Wordsworth gives him the door key and the Chancellor rushes away. The bomb explodes killing Wordsworth, but it has served its purpose.

When the Chancellor returns to his court he finds he has been declared obsolete and the court members mob him.
