The second lie Gil Kessler was holding back was that he used to be a mild-mannered housewife named Anna Maria Bonaduce. Sophia knew he was hiding something but couldn't figure it out.

Mary was a sixteen year old girl who lived in the neighborhood. The girls used to watch her when her mother was dying from cancer. Mary's father kicked her out and she came to stay with the girls. Dorothy finally convinced Mary's father to work things out with her by telling a St. Olaf story. The look on Rose's face when she found out was priceless.

Merrill was Blanche's pen-pal until he was released from prison. He would send her beautiful poetic letters. He actually stole the letters from the prisoner next to him. He came to see Blanche and the girls lied to him and said Blanche wouldn't be around for long time. He gave wine to Sophia who confessed to everything. Then he tied her up and stole the silver and Blanche's jewelery.

Answer: Melissa

Melissa came for a visit and Blanche didn't know what to do with her, so she entered her in the pageant. Melissa hated it, and when she went on stage for the talent portion, she froze and Blanche came onstage to help her finish. Melissa ran off in tears and wouldn't speak to her. They finally made up before she left for home.

Answer: Nurse DeFarge

Nurse DeFarge was played by the great character actress Edie McClurg. In this episode Nurse DeFarge was from Shady Pines and was known as the "Angel of Death", by the residence there. At first Sophie balked at the idea, but then came around when she realized she could manipulate the nurse to do anything she wanted. Dorothy told Sophia the nurse had to go as soon as she was better. Sophia didn't want to give her up so she faked her injuries longer. Dorothy walked in on her one day dancing around the room. Dorothy fired the nurse right after that.

Answer: Rocco

Rocco was played by Mickey Rooney. Rocco asked Sophia to hold some of his belongings for him. One of the satchels has thousands of dollars in it. When Sophia asks him about it, he says he robbed a bank. Sophia tells him she doesn't want to be with that kind of a man. Rocco then admits that he made up all of his stories to seem more exciting to her.

The money was actually his life savings. He wanted to treat her like a queen so he withdrew all his money.

Answer: Fidel Santiago

Fidel takes turns dating the girls and he eventually dies. Sophia and Blanche blame themselves for wearing him out until his funeral. Turns out Fidel was dating several women at the same time. This episode contains a classic Sophie line. When Sophia and Fidel come home from a date, Blanche walks out in a very sexy negligee. Blanche says she's going to take a bath in just enough water to cover her chest. Sophia replies, "You're only gonna sit in an inch of water?"

Dorothy becomes convinced that Sophia is losing her hearing. When they go to the doctor for a check-up, it turns out to be Dorothy who needs the hearing aid. She refuses to wear one because that will mean she is old. She finally realizes she is being ridiculous and puts one in.

Blanche's brother, Clayton, comes for a visit after his recent divorce. Blanche tries to set him up with some of her friends, but Clayton isn't interested. Rose sees Clayton on the boardwalk one evening and figures out his secret. Rose tries to convince Clayton to tell Blanche the truth.

When they arrive home Clayton can't tell her and lies the he slept with Rose. Blanche and Rose have a fight and quit speaking to each other. Clayton finally admits the truth and it rattles Blanche. She comes to terms with it and they make-up before he leaves. Blanche also makes up with Rose.
