Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What's the last name of young hero Jake and his family, including his grandma who gets smacked by Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve?

Answer: Spankenheimer

Jake and Granny Spankenheimer love each other as dearly as they do Christmas. To Jake's horror, Granny is run over by Santa's sleigh and no one believes him! The Spankenheimers include Mom and Dad, a senile grandpa, cynical older sister Daphne, who thinks Jake nuts for believing in Santa, and Doofus, the family dog, who's the only one of them who helps Jake.

Ernest Schoedsack is best known for teaming with Merian Cooper on the original "King Kong". "Schmidlapp" and "Sheldrake" are character names in the films of Frank Tashlin and Billy Wilder, respectively.
2. Who's the hypergreedy and shapely reheaded female cousin who wants to sell Granny's general store?

Answer: Mel

She's a bit of a female Scrooge with a lust for the long green! She wants to dump Granny's store for big bucks. Michelle Lee, best known from "Knot's Landing", voices Mel.
3. Who's the millionaire the cousin would like to sell Granny's store to?

Answer: Austin Bucks

The real-life Trump isn't in the cartoon, but obviously Bucks is based on him. Scrooge was created by Charles Dickens and Richie is from Harvey Comics.

Greedy Mel wants to sell Granny's store for the big bucks Bucks would shell out. She looks down her nose at Granny's far less acquisitive attitude and spirit of charity. At the story's end, Bucks offers to have Granny's store franchised across the country!
4. What does Granny carry with her that causes the accident with the sleigh?

Answer: spiked fruitcake

Mel spikes one of Granny's fruitcake out of spite with a mysterious liquid from a small purple vial, not realizing it's reindeer nip. The stuff drives the deer crazy so they go for the source of the odor! Granny was going to an old folk's home carrying the fruitcake when it happened. Santa takes her to the North Pole to recuperate. (Granny's main problem is amnesia from the collision.)

The reindeer wouldn't know what color clothing Granny wore anyway, since like bulls (and every other animal on earth, save man and apes!) they see only black and white!
5. How does Jake locate Granny?

Answer: Through the Internet

After fruitless months, Jake finally contacts Santa via his computer (this is in the computer age!) and sends Santa a picture of Granny so she can be identified and can be returned before Mel, who's tricked Grandpa into signing away the store, can seal her crooked deal.
6. Who's the equally greedy female lawyer who aids Mel in spiriting Granny away so Santa will take the blame for her disappearance?

Answer: Slime

Slime wants a big cut of Mel's windfall from the hit-and-run lawsuit against Santa so she keeps Granny prisoner in a log cabin outside of town while Santa's trial commences. Ironically, she escapes justice at the end when Santa's cleared of the charges, while Mel gets hers!
7. What's the main clue to Granny's whereabouts that the cousin hides?

Answer: a note by Santa

Santa leaves a note saying he's taken Granny to the Pole so she can recover. Mel, on finding it , hides it so to make it look like Santa's guilty of hit and run!
8. Who's the elf who aids Jake in his search (and helps him rescue Granny when she's captured)?

Answer: Quincy

A chief elf of Santa's, balding, long-nosed Quincy brings Jake to the North Pole to fetch his amnesiac Granny. Later, he aids Jake and Doofus in snatching Granny from Mel and Slime's clutches. Bringing her to her store, Jake has Granny taste her fruitcake to regain her memory and get to the trial to clear Santa.
9. What witness ultimately helps win the trial for Santa?

Answer: A reindeer

One of Santa's reideer is brought in by Quincy to demonstrate the effect of the reindeer nip Mel put in Granny's fruitcake. Then, with the appearance of Santa's note, Santa's cleared and Mel will spend her Christmas behind bars!

(Just couldn't resist putting Frosty into the answer list!)
10. Grandma gets run over again at the end.

Answer: True

Yes, Granny carries the same fruitcake again and gets run over! But unlike the song, she survives both times.

Elmo Stropshire, who sang the original song, sings it again, as well the others and also co-wrote them. Hope you enjoyed!
