Before Edie Falco achieved fame as a mobster's wife on 'The Sopranos' she regularly appeared in small roles in movies and television shows like 'New York Undercover' and 'Law & Order'. In 'Homicide' she played Eva Thormann, the wife of patrol officer Chris Thormann who was wounded in the season one episode called "Son of a Gun".

She reprised this role several more times throughout the series.

Luis Guzman has appeared in countless television shows and movies like 'Carlito's Way' and 'Boogie Nights' but before those excellent films he appeared as Lorenzo 'Larry' Molera in the season one episode of 'Homicide' titled "Son of a Gun". Larry Molera was Detective Bolander's wood working neighbor that was constantly hammering away in his apartment.

In his only episode he stole Detective Bolander's beer, expressed his deep sorrow over a love that got away and then died mysteriously in his apartment of unknown causes.

He was found in a wooden coffin he had built for a client that was never picked up.

In the season two premiere episode "Bop Gun", Jake Gyllenhaal played Matt Ellison. He and his family were tourists visiting Baltimore when they were the victims of a street robbery. His mother was killed and his father, played by Robin Williams, had to keep his family together while the detectives in the homicide unit investigated.

In season three episode "In Search of Crimes Past", Jerry Stiller played a man known only as McGonnigal. McGonnigal was hired by Detective Munch as his new bartender at the bar he owned with Detectives Lewis and Bayliss. McGonnigal claimed he knew what would improve the bar's waning popularity, a micro-brewery. To the detective's chagrin, McGonnigal's home brew was nothing better than skunk water and he was fired.

In his only episode of 'Homicide' David Morse played Jim Bayliss, the very close cousin of Detective Tim Payliss. In the season three episode "Colors", Jim Bayliss was arrested for the shooting death of a teenage boy who mistakenly knocked on Jim's door and tried to force his way in because he thought there was a party inside. Jim was arrested but avoided a trial when the Grand Jury did not indict.

Bruce Campbell appeared in the two part season four episode "Justice". He was detective Jake Rodzinsky who sought revenge for the murder of his father, a retired 30 year Baltimore cop. After the offender was arrested, he went on trial and was acquitted. He was shortly found shot to death and the homicide unit found that Jake Rodzinsky and his partner were responsible.

In the season four episode "Requiem for Adena", Chris Rock played a suspected pedophile. Besides his grotesque sexual habits, he also proved to be one of the dimmest criminals ever to be interrogated by the detectives in the homicide unit.

In the season five episode "The True Test", Elijah Wood played McPhee Broadman, a student at a private school that was a master manipulator of many other students. McPhee got students to intimidate other students, steal or cheat at tests and even blow up the head master's car.

When one student turned up dead on school grounds the homicide unit discovered he was killed because he refused to obey McPhee's order to kill McPhee's mother, a sitting Baltimore judge.

Answer: Loser dog fighter

In the season six episode "Pit Bull Sessions" Paul Giamatti played a dog owner/fighter named Harry Tjarks. When police found his grandfather dead, ripped apart by his pet pit bulls, the homicide unit had to determine if it was an accident or if the dogs had been intentionally used as deadly weapons. Harry Tjarks only cared about his dogs.

When he was told his dogs killed his grandfather, he didn't care. When he was told that his own father wished that Harry had been killed instead, he didn't care. Only when Detective Falsone told him that his dogs would have to be euthanized for killing a human being did he get upset. Ultimately, he was not charged with his grandfather's death.

Chris Meloni appeared in the two part season seven episode caled "Wanted Dead or Alive" as an arrogant bounty hunter named Dennis Knoll. While serving a routine arrest warrant one of his subordinate bounty hunters fired his weapon and killed the wrong man. To find the right man and to clear his name Knoll teamed up with Detective Bayliss and Agent Giardello and followed the suspect all the way to Florida where he was ultimately captured.
