Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ethel Mertz always had the same middle name on the series.

Answer: False

In the 1953 episode, "Lucy and Ethel Buy the Same Dress," it was Louise. A few months later on "The Million-Dollar Idea," it was Roberta. (Vivian Vance's real middle name.) A year later, she was Ethel Mae in "Ethel's Home Town." (Mae was Miss Vance's mother's name.) It remained Ethel Mae until the series ended.
2. Fred Mertz's former vaudeville partner had different last names on the series.

Answer: False

Fred's former partner in vaudeville was always named Kurtz; it was his first name that differed. First it was Ted; then, Barney.
3. Lucy and Ricky's move in date to the apartment building was always given as August 6, 1948.

Answer: False

The Ricardos length of time residing at 623 East 68th Street (which was always given as their address), has been described by various characters on the series as being:

* five years ago
* nine years ago
* twelve years ago
4. The longevity of the Mertz marriage changed a number of times during the run of the series.

Answer: True

First, Fred and Ethel had been married for eighteen years; then a year later, it was raised to twenty-five. Three years later, they celebrated their 25th anniversary again! The plot line of the first hour long episode, "Lucy Takes a Cruise to Havana," places their wedding in 1930, which contradicts all previous mentions of the length of their marriage.
5. Ethel always knew how to drive.

Answer: False

Well, Mrs. Mertz knew how to drive in "The Camping Trip," but somehow "forgot" and asked Lucy to teach her a year and a half later in "Lucy Learns to Drive."
6. Little Ricky seemed to "skip" some years during his childhood.

Answer: True

At the end of the fourth season (1955-1956), Little Ricky was about 3½. (Which made sense, as the episode he was 'born' initially aired on January 19, 1953.) At the start of the fifth season, his age had been increased to five.
7. The Ricardos had two different phone numbers during the run of the series while they lived in Manhattan.

Answer: False

Actually, they had at least three! It was variously given a Murray Hill 5-9975; Circle 7-2099; and Murray Hill 5-9099.
8. Lucy could act really crazy at times. On one episode, she expressed a strong desire for fake pearls after she already owned real ones.

Answer: True

In the hour long "The Ricardos Go to Japan", Lucy Ricardo schemes to obtain some fake pearls with Bob Cummings. SEVEN years ago, she had received the genuine thing from Ricky in the episode "The Anniversary Present."
9. Ethel Mertz's ability to play the piano mysteriously vanished, never to return.

Answer: False

First, Ethel played the piano beautifully in a number of segments. However, in the episode "Ragtime Band," she can barely play eight bars of "She'll be Comin' Round the Mountain." Then, as if by magic, her talent was restored and she could play again just fine in episodes such as "Lucy Meets The Mustache."
10. The apartment number the Ricardos resided in changed from "3-B" to "3-C."

Answer: False

Actually, in "Lucy Tells the Truth," the apartment number was changed to "3-D" so Lucy could tell a casting director she had appeared in "3-D." When the director asked if that meant third-dimensional films, she had to confess and state that "3-D" referred to her apartment number.
