Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the first name of the harp player in Ricky's orchestra?

Answer: Nancy

This piece of information is not mentioned very often, but once, Ricky was taking a trip with his orchestra, and Lucy was upset because he wouldn't let her come; it was a "guys' trip". He also mentioned that Nancy, the harp player wasn't invited.
2. What is Ricky's favourite supper dish?

Answer: Chicken with rice

More commonly known as "arroz con pollo". When Ricky's mother comes to visit, Lucy cooks this dish. She tries to explain to her mother-in-law what she's cooking, but because of the language barrier, she has to act it out.
3. When Ricky is waiting for a call from Hollywood about his screen test, what Frank Sinatra hit do Lucy, Ethel, and Fred sing to cheer him up?

Answer: "When You're Smiling"

Ricky is so nervous and jumpy that when the doorbell rings, he thinks it's the phone and tries to answer it. He won't even let Lucy talk on the phone because he wants to keep the line open.
4. Whose footprints do Lucy and Ethel try to steal from Grauman's Chinese Theater?

Answer: John Wayne's

Lucy accidentally steps in a bucket of wet cement, and Ricky has to hammer it off her foot at the Mertzes' hotel suite.
5. In episode #3, Lucy and Ethel read a book called "How to Keep the Honeymoon from Ending". Who wrote the book?

Answer: Dr. Humphreys

The book suggests that if a wife thinks her husband is getting tired of her, she should dress up for him in the morning. Lucy tries this, and it doesn't work. She and Ethel read on to chapter 2, in which Dr. Humphreys suggests that the wife should try taking up her husband's hobby. So, Lucy tries joining Ricky's poker game, with disastrous results.

She finally gets his attention by decorating the apartment like his old house in Cuba, complete with a banana tree and a live donkey!
6. When Lucy gets stuck at the French-Italian border without her passport, where does she think she's left it?

Answer: In her blue purse

Ricky and Fred have to ride their bicycles (the method of transportation was Lucy's idea) all the way to the hotel in Nice, France, where the luggage (and Lucy's purse) has been sent ahead. When they get there, Lucy's purse is in a suitcase. But the suitcase is locked, and Lucy has the key with her in Italy! Ethel, who stayed behind with Lucy, rides to Nice with the key.

They unlock the suitcase, and find the purse--only to discover that the passport isn't there! Lucy then remembers that she's had her passport with her in her knapsack the entire time!
7. When Ricky buys a part of the Tropicana, he gets to change the name! What does it call it?

Answer: Club Babalu

Ricky's opening night includes a special guest appearance by Bob Hope!
8. Who is Fred's favourite baseball player?

Answer: Joe Dimaggio

Fred is very distressed when Little Ricky begins pronouncing it "Joe Maggio"!
9. Which of these famous people does Lucy never get to meet?

Answer: Clark Gable

Lucy meets Bob Hope in "Lucy and Bob Hope". She meets Charles Boyer in Paris, and Hedda Hopper in Hollywood. But she never, ever gets to meet Clark Gable. In real life, however, Lucille Ball knew Clark Gable quite well.
10. After seeing a musical about this country, where does Lucy dream of going to look up her ancestors?

Answer: Scotland

Lucy has a dream where she goes to Scotland and is the last of the McGillicuddys. This episode is a must-see--the effect of Desi Arnaz trying to do a Scottish accent is truly hilarious!
11. By an unfortunate mistake, Lucy and co. end up imprisoned in Bent Fork, Tennessee, where Cousin Ernie happens to live. He arrives with files, intending to break them out, and they have to sing to cover up the noise of the sawing. What song do they sing?

Answer: "Old McDonald Had a Farm"

Unfortunately, this plan doesn't work, and the gang has to think up an elaborate scheme, including a phony square dance, to break out of jail!
12. What was the title of the Italian movie that Lucy was going to be in?

Answer: "Bitter Grapes"

This episode includes the famous grape-stomping scene. Lucy went to a wine press to "pick up some local colour", to prepare her for the part, but as it turned out, Vitorio Filippi, the producer of the movie, wanted her to play a typical American tourist, not a grape-stomper!
13. How much money does Lucy win at the Monte Carlo Casino in Nice?

Answer: 875,000 francs

Lucy and Ethel just went to the casino to look around. However, Lucy finds a chip on the floor, tosses it on a roulette table, and wins! She keeps winning more money, by accident, and finally takes it all back to the hotel. She hides it in Ethel's suitcase, but Ricky finds it, and a long-winded explanation follows!
14. In "Lucy Tells the Truth" what language does Lucy pretend to speak?

Answer: Italian

In order to win a bet with Ricky, Lucy has to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, for twenty-four hours. And knowing Lucy, you can imagine what kind of trouble that will get her into!
15. What does Lucy unwittingly order to eat at the French cafe in Paris?

Answer: Snails

Lucy pays for her meal with, unbeknownst to her, counterfeit money. She's dragged off the the police station, and it takes two guards, a drunk prisoner, and Ricky, to translate from English to Spanish to German to French, and get her off the hook!
