Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Marshal Raylan Givens had to shoot several people during season 3. Which of these did he NOT shoot?

Answer: Gary Hawkins

Raylan shot Fletcher "The Ice Pick" Nix in "The Gunfighter", when Fletcher was about to kill Raylan and Winona. Layla and her partner Lance were organ thieves. In "Thick as Mud", Lance drugged Raylan and placed him in a bathtub to harvest his organs. Layla shot Lance and Lance fell on top of Raylan. Before she could shoot Raylan, he shot her, through Lance's body. Caught breaking into Loretta's house in search of his mother's money, Dickie attempted to shoot Raylan to avoid arrest in "Coalition". Raylan was faster, and shot Dickie. Gary Hawkins was shot by Robert Quarles in an attempt to frame Raylan for the murder in "Watching the Detectives".
2. Who killed Devil Lennox?

Answer: Boyd Crowder

Robert Quarles and Wynn Duffy convinced Devil to betray Boyd. Devil tried to get Johnny to come with him. Johnny let Boyd know, and when Devil and Johnny confronted Boyd during "The Devil You Know", Johnny turned his gun on devil and Boyd shot and killed Devil.
3. In "The Man Behind the Curtain", Robert Quarles attempted to bribe Raylan. When he failed, he attempted to bribe another lawman and was successful. Which lawman went on his payroll?

Answer: Sheriff Tillman Napier

By this episode, the three crime factions in Harlan were starting on paths that would later put them on a collision course. Limehouse's subordinate had hit Crowder's oxy operation and made it look like the work of Quarles. Crowder had hit back at Quarles. And, Quarles bought the sheriff and ordered him to go after Crowder.
4. In "The Gunfighter", Boyd Crowder attacked Raylan at the marshal's office, and was put in jail. Why did Boyd do it?

Answer: To get to Dickie Bennett

Boyd wanted to get to Dickie in prison, so he could find out where Mags' money was hidden. He punched Raylan so he would be locked up in the same facility as Dickie. When Raylan realized Boyd had done this, he assumed it was to kill Dickie for shooting Ava, so he got Boyd released and Dickie put in solitary confinement. Boyd still managed to get to Dickie, and Dickie told him the money was with Ellstin Limehouse.
5. In "Measures", Art and Raylan took on hitmen from Detroit that they thought worked for Robert Quarles. After shooting one of them, they discovered the hitmen worked for Theo, and were there to kill Robert Quarles. Raylan then asked Art, "Ever get the feeling ______?" Complete the quote.

Answer: God's laughing at you

Art's response to Raylan's question was, "Why? Just because we shot the guy that's looking to kill the guy that you're just dying to see dead?" Sometimes the viewer, and Raylan, needs a scorecard to keep track of all the bad guys on "Justified".
6. Raylan's fingerprint was on the shell casing found at the scene where Gary Hawkins was killed in "The Man Behind the Curtain". How did it get there?

Answer: It was the bullet Raylan dropped on Wynn Duffy

In "Harlan Roulette", Raylan warned Wynn Duffy to get out of town. He did so by taking a bullet out of his gun and dropping it on Wynn's body, and then telling him that the next bullet would be "coming a little faster." Wynn saved the bullet and Robert Quarles used it to kill Gary.

When questioned about this in "Watching the Detectives", Raylan told the homicide detectives that he had heard about someone doing that on Johnny Carson years go.
7. "Harlan Roulette" was the name of a season 3 episode of "Justified". How is Harlan roulette different from Russian roulette?

Answer: Keep pulling the trigger until you die

Russian roulette is when you hold a gun with one bullet in the gun against your head and fire once, taking the chance that the bullet will not be in the chamber. Harlan roulette requires you keep firing. The pawn shop owner Glen Fogle forced JT to hold the gun to his head and pull the trigger.

When he was not shot, he told him to do it again. The oxy addict complained that that was not how Russian roulette worked. Fogle responded that he wasn't playing Russian roulette, but was playing Harlan roulette. JT pulled the trigger again. JT then tried to shoot Fogle, but Fogle took the gun away, loaded a bullet, and fired until the round came up and he killed JT.
8. In "Guy Walks into a Bar", who got the most votes in the sheriff's election and who became the sheriff?

Answer: Tillman Napier got the most votes and Shelby Parlow became the sheriff

Before the election, Boyd bought the County Clerk and found out that one could not be a candidate if they had a relative in the county clerk's office. He got the clerk to put Tillman Napier's sister on the payroll. After Tillman Napier won the election, the clerk showed up and explained that there would need to be a new election in three months, but in the interim, the runner up, Shelby Parlow, became the sheriff.
9. When Robert Quarles tried to get Boyd to be his partner, Boyd said no, and called Quarles a what?

Answer: carpetbagger

The scene between Boyd and Quarles occurred in "Thick as Mud". Quarles quoted Jefferson, who said that, "The most successful war seldom pays for its losses," and was taken aback when Boyd knew the quote and its source. Boyd then asked if Quarles had heard the term, "carpetbagger," and told him, "It was coined during Reconstruction.

A man from the North comes down to the South to take advantage of our backward ways." Quarles left, but not before Boyd told him that "Carpetbaggers in three-piece suits been coming to Harlan a long time.

They have a habit of dying off like beer flies at the end of summer."
10. In "Harlan Roulette", Glen Fogle and Wally Beckett tried to kill Raylan when they confronted him at Wade Messer's house. What was the result?

Answer: Fogle and Beckett shot each other

As Fogle and Beckett had guns trained on Raylan, and the deputy marshal confronted them, Fogle started to try to make a deal with Raylan, offering to give up Wynn Duffy. Beckett started ranting that Fogle had killed JT. The two started arguing, and before Raylan could stop them, they shot each other.
11. Which character was killed at the end of "Coalition"?

Answer: Tom Bergen

Robert Quarles was ordered to kill Boyd Crowder in order to pay his debt to Limehouse. He sat in his car outside Crowder's bar snorting oxy until Boyd came outside with a gun to confront him. In the meantime, Wynn Duffy had planted a bomb in Quarles' car.

When Quarles got out of the car, Duffy detonated the bomb in the hopes of taking out both Crowder and Quarles. State trooper Tom Bergen arrived and ordered Quarles to drop his weapon. Bergen was shot and died shortly thereafter at the hospital.

It was later revealed in "Slaughterhouse" that Arlo Givens was the one that killed him.
12. In "Watching the Detectives", who was investigating Raylan Givens?

Answer: Lexington police and the FBI

Robert Quarles attempted to frame Raylan for Gary's murder, so the homicide division of the Lexington police department considered Raylan their prime suspect. In addition, Quarles had Sammy state that Raylan was a dirty cop when he knew he was being taped by an FBI wiretap. So, the FBI was on his trail. And, the FBI got assistance from the U.S. Attorney who had a full file on Raylan, although the attorney was not the one investigating this time. Watching the two groups fight over the chance to interrogate Raylan at his office was very entertaining.

The only thing more entertaining was watching him slip past both groups. Raylan prevented the frame up for the murder from continuing. When the FBI refused to reveal their source, the U.S. Attorney said he could not help the FBI, stalling that investigation, as well.
13. One theme of season 3 of "Justified" was the race to find Mags Bennett's money. Boyd Crowder, Dickie Bennett, Ash, Lance, Layla, the feds, and even Wynn Duffy all spent some time going after the money, and trying to figure out where Ellstin Limehouse had hidden it. Where was it?

Answer: With Loretta McCready

It was revealed in "Coalition" that Mags had left the money to Loretta. Limehouse told Raylan, and Raylan stopped Dickie from going after it, but did not try to retrieve it from Loretta, saying he would respect Mags' decision, while warning the child whose father Mags had killed not to make any extravagant purchases.
14. In "When the Guns Come Out", Raylan discovered the money from the bank robbery in season 2 was missing from the evidence locker. Who took the money?

Answer: Charlie

Raylan discovered the money was missing after Winona left him, and he assumed she took it. He tracked her down at her sister's house, and Winona told him it was not her. Art later told Raylan that Charlie, the officer guarding the evidence locker, had called in sick. The episode ended with a shot of Charlie in a red sports car, driving into Mexico.
15. In the season finale, Raylan fought with Robert Quarles for the gun, and Ellstin Limehouse sliced tight through Quarles arm, chopping it off. The gossip in the courthouse after this happened was that Raylan had ______ Quarles. Fill in the blank.

Answer: disarmed

"Slaughterhouse" was filled with action, twists and turns, and heartbreak. Quarles was finally killed. Boyd got off when Arlo took the blame for Boyd's murder of Devil. Johnny betrayed Boyd. And, Raylan realized his father had killed Tom Bergen because he thought Tom was Raylan.
