Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The episode opens with the Hills entering the Texas state fair. What sight do they see as they approach the fair?

Answer: A giant cowboy

According to the commentary, the giant cowboy they see is called 'Big Tex'.

Interestingly, most of the characters look slightly different (streamlined) from season one, a result of new model sheets created by Wes Archer, the supervising director.
2. Bobby and his father go from one booth to another, as Hank attempts to find an activity at which Bobby can excel. It turns out that Bobby is an excellent rifle shot. What model animals does Bobby hit with his rifle, one after the other?

Answer: Ducks

Bobby tries throwing baseballs at milk jugs and tossing ping pong balls into fish bowls before settling in with a rifle. After hitting several ducks in a row, Hank Hill realizes that his boy his a true crackshot!
3. Returning from the fair, Bobby is very pleased with himself, and he carries a giant 'trophy' as his reward. What type of giant, purple animal is this trophy?

Answer: Donkey

Bobby claims to have killed 1,000 ducks, for which he received his big purple donkey. Peggy is very pleased, and excitedly asks if Bobby also killed any bunnies. His parents then discuss the possibility of buying Bobby his own rifle.
4. Hank Hill decides that Bobby is old enough to have his own rifle, and takes the lad to a gun shop to select one. What is the brand name of the rifle Bobby chooses?

Answer: Marlin

Bobby excitedly picks the Marlin 22-gauge rifle, something of which both Hank and the gun store employee approve. Hank muses that the .22 that Bobby has selected is a lot like the first .22 his father got him.
5. Bobby and his father go shooting at a rifle range. Does Bobby hit the target with all six of his shots?

Answer: Yes

While Bobby hits point blank center with all six shots, his father barely clips the target sheet with two of his shots, and fails to hit the bullseye at all. He seems very wobbly with his rifle, and soon we learn why.
6. While Bobby is a natural with his new rifle, Hank seems very uneasy holding a gun. In a flashback, we see Hank with his father and some of his young friends. Cotton talks about the war in Vietnam. What does Cotton say will be Hank's fate, vis-a-vis the war?

Answer: Hank will be killed

Cotton is very cruel to young Hank. He claims in a flashback: 'Someday soon, all of you will be drafted in a war. Some of you, like Hank, will be killed. Others can shoot and they become war heroes. Now, commence to firing!'

In other flashbacks in this episode, Hank seems very intimidated by Cotton when he is trying to shoot his rifle, thus why he is wobbly as an adult.
7. Though his son is a sure shot, Hank Hill seems unable to hit a target. He consults a sports psychologist about this 'problem'. With what professional sports team does the psychologist say he has worked?

Answer: Dallas Cowboys

Philip Ny is the name of this sports psychologist. He is voiced by Wallace Shawn, who you may recognize as Vizzini the Sicilian from 'The Princess Bride'. If you look on the door of Ny's office, you will see his title written as 'B.S. Psychology', which certainly has a double meaning!
8. Bobby and Hank have been entered into the local 'FunShoot' as a father-son team. Which of these is not among the events they will participate in during the FunShoot?

Answer: Random Fire

Besides the Tandem Shoot, Quick Draw and Gauntlet (a simulated hunting expedition), they will also participate in the amusingly named 'Pretend-to-be-sleeping-grab-the-loaded-gun-under-the-bed-and-shoot-a-figure-in-the-shadows' competiton. Finally, the last event is the Independent Long Range Accuracy Shooting.
9. Up against fierce competition, Bobby and Hank are able to do very well, that is, until Cotton shows up to intimidate Hank. Cotton claims he would have gotten there earlier, but he was at the local wax museum giving 'the finger' to which U.S. president?

Answer: Franklin Roosevelt

Apparently, Cotton Hill harbors ill will for Franklin Roosevelt, the man who was in the White House during most of World War II. When Cotton arrives at the competition, Hank's confidence immediately declines.
10. Do Hank and Bobby ultimately win the FunShoot?

Answer: No

In the Independent Long Range Accuracy Shooting portion of the competition, Bobby hits the target dead center, but Hank misses it entirely. This is due to Cotton's presence. Dejected, Hank feels as if he has failed his boy, but Bobby proudly approaches Hank with the 2nd Place certificate, happy to have competed with his father.
