Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Much to the dismay of Peggy Hill, Cotton Hill has been invited to Bobby's birthday party. Naturally, Cotton will bring his lovely wife with him. What is the name of Cotton's very young wife?

Answer: Dee Dee

Cotton, who lives in Houston, has divorced Hank's mother and married a much younger woman, the 39-year old Dee Dee. Dee Dee is in fact so young that she was a classmate of Hank's in school. Dee Dee addresses the fact that she attended kindergarten with Hank by asking if the latter still liked finger painting.
2. During Bobby's party, the lad does what he can to entertain his friends with jokes. For the first time, we hear Bobby recite which phrase with a Yiddish accent in this episode?

Answer: What are you talking about?

Bobby lifts his shorts up to his chest to recite this line, one of his catchphrases throughout the show. For further entertainment, Bobby belches the alphabet for his captive audience.
3. In what special way does Cotton make his appearance at Bobby's birthday party?

Answer: On a horse

Cotton is mounted on a horse that he trots out of a horse trailer that is hooked up to his truck. He claims that the horse is only rented for four hours, so the kids should have fun while it lasts.
4. To Peggy Hill's shock, what lovely gift has Cotton Hill provided to his impressionable young grandson Bobby for his birthday?

Answer: A shotgun

Cotton Hill is bigger than life, and so are his gifts. For this birthday, the young Bobby receives a 20-gauge Winchester shotgun, which the young fellow mistakes at first for a 'water squirter'. As if to exacerbate the situation, Cotton has made sure that the shotgun is fully loaded.
5. Cotton Hill sneakily finds a way to stay overnight at the Hill house, even against the protests of a very angry Peggy Hill. The following morning, Cotton is served breakfast, but complains that which of the following items are not present on his plate?

Answer: Sausage

Cotton's plate is blessed with an overabundance of meat, including bacon, steak and ham, but this doesn't seem to please the demanding old fellow. He insists on sausages to go along with his veritable meat smorgasbord. Peggy suggests that if Cotton wants sausage, he should go right down to the local Safeway and purchase some.
6. Cotton Hill has played a trick in order to stay at the Hill house. He removed a certain item from the engine of his car. What is this engine component?

Answer: Solenoid

Luanne identifies right away that Cotton's car, which will not start, is missing its solenoid plunger (or that it has been disabled). She is able to fix it the following morning. Later, the solenoid is found among Cotton's clothes, as is a timing belt.
7. Together, Cotton and Bobby lounge on the living room couch, wearing their underwear and watching the television. Which show do they enjoy during the living room scene in this show?

Answer: Charlie's Angels

Apparently, Cotton Hill is not a fan of the actress Shelley Hack, who portrayed the Angel Tiffany Welles on the show from 1979-80. There is no indication about which Angel Cotton prefers. When Hank finds Cotton and Bobby wearing only their underwear he expresses his annoyance. Cotton demands that Hank take off his jeans and join them, even commanding Bobby to physically remove Hank's pants.
8. Hank Hill, being the grease monkey that he is, fixes Cotton's auto problems with no difficulty.

Answer: False

Rather, it was Luanne.

When Cotton hears that Luanne has fixed his car, he is in complete, sexist denial. He suggests that a woman fixing a car is like a 'pig trying to read'.
9. Peggy Hill delivers one of her most marvelous speeches of the entire series in this episode. During her speech, defending herself and her position as a woman in the Hill family, she suggests that she applies which make-up item '30 times a day'?

Answer: Lipstick

The speech in its entirety:

'I am not a feminist, Hank. I am Peggy Hill, a citizen of the Republic of Texas. I work hard, I sweat hard and I love hard, I gotta smell good and look pretty while I'm doing it. So I comb my hair, I reapply lipstick thirty times a day, I do your dishes, I wash your clothes, and I clean the house. Not because I have to, Hank, but because of a mutual, unspoken agreement that I have never brought up because I am too much of a lady.'

Fantastic!
10. Cotton Hill gains sympathy from Hank and the guys by telling his World War II stories, as far-fetched as they may be. Cotton claims to have fought in both the European and Pacific theaters during the war.

Answer: True

Cotton fought in Italy against the Nazis, then was transferred to the Pacific theater where he fought against the Japanese (or Tojos, as he derisively calls them). He claims to have saved the lives of himself and his buddies, Fatty, Stinky and Brooklyn, though Fatty is later sacrificed to the sharks. He lost his shins during the Pacific action.

Though Cotton is loveable in a strange way, Hank finally stands up to him and defends his loving wife Peggy. Hank is a stand-up guy.
