Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Husband of the deceased Edith

Answer: Clegg

Norman Clegg was a character throughout the entire series. During the pilot, "Of Funerals and Fish (Comedy Playhouse)", he took flowers to his wife's grave.

Norman would often utter some philosophical thought such as "If our feet were pointed backward from our legs, we'd be able to stand against walls face-first. We'd probably make sure our walls were cleaner then".
2. Nora Batty's husband

Answer: Wally

Nora and Wally Batty were Compo Simmonite's neighbors. Wally was a brow-beaten husband. The trio (Compo, Clegg and Foggy) tried to give Wally a break from marriage in "The White Man's Grave", and Clegg and Wally swapped places washing a rug so Wally could escape for a bit.
3. Barry's wife

Answer: Glenda

Glenda was the daughter of Edie and Wesley Pegden. Both Barry and Glenda were introduced in "Uncle of the Bride". In addition Edie and her brother Seymour Utterthwaite were also introduced in this episode.
4. Compo's son

Answer: Tom

Compo didn't know he had a son until shortly before he died, when they began exchanging letters. His son, Tom, came to visit in "From Here to Paternity" because of their correspondence. Alas, he was too late because his father had died.
5. Sid's wife

Answer: Ivy

Until Sid's death, he and Ivy would often have loud yelling matches. Together they were the owners of The Cafe. When Sid died, Milburn "Crusher" came to help Ivy for a few years, and then she managed The Cafe on her own.

The Cafe was rather dingy until it got a makeover first seen in "Getting on Sidney's Wire".
6. Edie Pegden's husband

Answer: Wesley

Edie and Wesley bickered quite a bit, mostly about her clean house and his messes. Wesley had a shed where he invented stuff, and his overall were almost always dirty. In "Situations Vacant" Edie told him to keep clean and he tried, but he ended up covered in oil.

When the trio (Compo, Foggy, and Clegg) tried to tell Edie she thought the worst until Wesley came in the room. With relief she hugged him and got oil all over her pristine white apron.
7. Tom's live-in associate

Answer: Mrs. Avery

Mrs. Lolly Minerva Avery and her niece, Babs, make their first appearance with Tom in "From Here to Paternity". Neither stayed very long, Babs left after an unsuccessful gig in "Waggoner's Roll", and Mrs. Avery left after she threw Tom out.
8. Pearl's husband

Answer: Howard

Pearl and Howard Sibshaw lived in the same block of houses as Norman Clegg and Luther 'Hobbo' Hobdyke (once he was introduced in "I Was a Hitman for Primrose Dairies").

Pearl, Howard, and his bit-on-the-side, Marina, were introduced in "Catching Digby's Donkey". Howard would dally with Marina, and Pearl always tried to prevent it.
9. Howard's aunt

Answer: Auntie Wainwright

Auntie Wainwright was first introduced in "Crums". She was the proprietress of a junk shop and could craftily sell almost anything to anybody. Clegg was a favorite target since he could never seem to leave the shop without buying something.
10. Always wanted to run off with Nora Batty

Answer: Compo

Compo Simmonite was always trying to get Nora Batty, though she was almost always disdainful of his efforts. One exception was in "Brushes at Dawn". Compo heard Nora protesting in a cupboard with another man, and challenged him to a duel. Compo's efforts earned him a kiss from his one true love.
