Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As the episode opens, the doctors are working away in the O.R. While Hawkeye and Frank share a difficult case, Trapper sings away. What song does he sing, much to the annoyance of Major 'Ferret Face'?

Answer: I've Got You Under My Skin

'I've Got You Under My Skin' was a song written by the great American songwriter Cole Porter in 1936. Frankly, I prefer the Ella Fitzgerald version over the Trapper John version, he's not much of a singer!
2. What is unusual about the patient George that both Hawkeye and Frank have been working on?

Answer: He has bruises on his face

George has clearly been beaten up by members of his own unit. Frank suggests in the post-op that he considered filing a report regarding George's 'roughhousing', but did not do so because George has exhibited so much heroism on the battlefield.
3. We discover that George has been wounded several times prior to arriving at the 4077th. How many times has George already been wounded in battle?

Answer: 3

Frank comments that it is wonderful that heroic guys like George are fighting the 'pink stain'. When George wonders what 'pink stain' means, Frank clarifies it...the pink stain is communism.
4. After a few days, George is up and walking, and he goes to Hawkeye to confide in him about his homosexuality. In the process, he also mentions that he has been beaten up by other members of his unit, but he is not the only one. Who else has been beaten up in his unit, according to George?

Answer: A 'colored' soldier

George informs Hawkeye that he made the mistake of telling the other guys in his unit about a homosexual encounter he had, and this prompted them to beat him up. Obviously, the intolerance in the unit didn't end with homosexuals, they also beat up a black soldier.
5. The scene shifts to the Swamp, where Hawkeye discusses George's situation with Trapper. Suddenly Frank enters the Swamp and the conversation switches to another topic. What is the new conversation topic between Trapper and Hawkeye?

Answer: Hitler

Frank is immediately annoyed, because he assumes that when Trapper and Hawkeye talk about Hitler, they are really talking about him. After calming down, Frank let's his tentmates know that 'one of those' is in camp, referring to George's homosexuality.
6. In the conversation between Frank, Trapper and Hawkeye, we learn George's last name. What is George's surname?

Answer: Weston

Private George Weston is played by Richard Ely, who was a regular on the early 1970s show 'The Young Rebels'. This would mark Ely's only appearance on 'M*A*S*H'. Oddly enough he would only show up in two scenes during the entire episode.
7. Frank decides that he must report George to the proper authorities so that the Private will receive a dishonorable discharge. He goes to Henry, who is being given a medical check-up by Radar. When Radar looks into Henry's ear, what does he claim it looks like?

Answer: A nativity scene

Radar checks Henry's temperature, his vision and his vital signs. After this thorough check-up, Radar's recommendations are that Henry 'cut down on the booze and stay away from women' for a while.
8. After consultation with Father Mulcahy on the George situation, Hawkeye and Trapper continue their discussion in the shower. Trapper notes that his folks suggested that he become a priest. Why didn't he, according to Trapper?

Answer: I like my Sundays free.

Radar barges into the shower with a small emergency. He reports to Trapper and Hawkeye that Frank Burns has been giving Henry pressure about the George situation. What does this pressure consist of? He's 'insisted' that Henry do something.
9. Hawkeye and Trapper are irritated at Henry, who they believe has signed forms recommending George's dishonorable discharge from the army. Has Henry signed the forms?

Answer: No

Hawkeye and Trapper arrive in Henry's tent, where the Colonel is enjoying a manicure from a lovely nurse. Hawkeye takes over, something Henry calls a 'dirty trick'. When Hawkeye suggests that Henry deserves the Rubber Backbone Award, Henry denies having signed the requested papers.
10. At the end of the episode, Trapper and Hawkeye create an elaborate ruse in an effort to force Frank to back down from his pursuit of a dishonorable discharge for George. What about Frank's past do they promise to reveal if old Ferret Face persists?

Answer: He bought the answers to his first year medical exam

Trapper and Hawkeye pretend to fight, with Trapper taking Frank's side in the George situation. Trapper then 'admits' that he paid $100 for the answers to his first year medical exams. Frank is surprised, he had to pay $400 for his. When they squeeze this information out of them, they hang it over Frank's head until he agrees to tear up his letter about George.
