Answer: Chief Surgeon Who?

Klinger was originally written as a one episode part, but after his performance in "Chief Surgeon Who?" from season 1, he was asked back for different episodes in season 1 and 2, and was made a main character in season 3. Klinger is first seen in the nude, after General Barker discovered him in that state, performing guard duty.

Surprisingly (or maybe not?) Klinger's first thought was of his dresses. Not the reaction most would have anticipated! This quote was taken from "Cease Fire", from season 1.

Klinger was actually offered a section 8 discharge from Sidney Freedman the first time Sidney examined him, but refused to sign it as it said he was a transvestite and a homosexual. Apparently he thought by wearing women's dresses he would get a section 8 without those labels!

Klinger has worn all of these throughout the show, but it was the tropical outfit he wore to say farewell to Henry. Klinger replied to Henry's comment by saying the dress was just for him. Klinger wore the Shirley Temple outfit in "Change of Command", season 4 and the Statue of Liberty outfit in "Big Mac", season 3, in front of General Macarthur himself! He wore his dress uniform in various episodes throughout "M*A*S*H".

Klinger was married to Laverne Esposito in the episode "Springtime", from season 3. He marries Soon Lee in "Goodbye, Farewell and Amen", the final episode of the series.

During this episode, Hawkeye and BJ attempted to discover who (out of BJ and Hawkeye) the funniest person in camp is. When asked for his opinion, he says this.

"You guys don't even make the first cut. I'm trying to tell my Uncle Abdul about what kind of place I work in. Doctors, nurses, saving lives. Well, I got a commanding officer who dresses me up in his clothes and sits me on a horse named Sophie so he can paint his own picture. There's a priest writing war ditties. And a snooty major who pays me twenty bucks to follow him out into the woods with him and watch him blow up a pigeon with a land mine. And if that doesn't do it for you, I got a head nurse who shoots unarmed luggage. All you two guys do is walk around all day telling jokes. What the hell is so funny about that?".

It's no wonder Klinger didn't get his section 8!

Klinger received a promotion to sergeant during "Promotion Commotion", season 10.

Answer: gasoline

One of my favourite Klinger quotes. He says this after pouring "gasoline" over himself, in an attempt to get a section 8. While saying he will light a match, he smells the gasoline, which he thought was water. A classic Klinger stunt.

Answer: He told him to stay up there until he broke a record.

This is from "Souvenirs", season 5. Colonel Potter also tells Klinger that if he doesn't want to stay up there and break the record, he could come down and attempt to break the record for the number of goldfish eaten in one sitting.

Tony Packo's Cafe was a real cafe in the Hungarian neighborhood of Toledo. It was opened in 1932, and stayed in the family. It was running at the time of filming. The cafe was mentioned throughout the series by Klinger, once even having sausage casing ordered from it to make a kidney machine.
