Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which episode was the 'Killer Joke' sketch in?

Answer: Whither Canada (episode 1)

The first episode of the series also included 'Famous Deaths', 'It's the Arts', and several pigs getting killed.
2. Which Python played the wife of Ernest Scribbler, the man who wrote the killer joke?

Answer: Eric Idle

Scribbler dies laughing from the joke and his wife finds him dead, reads the joke, and dies as well.
3. The policeman that retrieved the joke from Scribbler's home died.

Answer: True

It was the most courageous and gallant act in police history.
4. How far away could the joke still be deadly?

Answer: 50 yards

The military tested it on a soldier 50 yards from a copy of the joke, and he sputtered a laugh and died.
5. What was the last line of the first joke the Germans used to match the killer joke?

Answer: Awful!

The whole joke was, "My dog's got no nose!" "How does he smell?" "Awful!"
6. In what year was the German version of the killer joke first used?

Answer: 1944

"Wenn ist das nunstruck git und slotermeyer? Ja! Bierhundt das oder die flipperwalt gersput!"
It was used in the Ardennes and was a smashing success.
7. What does the Gestapo officer do to the captured British soldier to get him to tell the joke?

Answer: He tickles him with a feather

The interrogation officer fake slaps him, not the Gestapo officer, and insulting Brits is best left to the French. The soldier tells them the joke, but, in consequence, both the Gestapo and interrogation officers die.
8. Who plays both Gestapo officers with signs around their necks?

Answer: Graham Chapman

The first officer's sign said 'A GESTAPO OFFICER' while the second officer's sign said 'ANOTHER GESTAPO OFFICER'. The first one dies at the hands of the killer joke and they were labelled accordingly so no one was confused.
9. The German V-joke killed thousands of British citizens when it was broadcast in English.

Answer: False

In fact, no one even laughed at the poorly-written joke: "There were zwei (two) peanuts walking down der strasse (the street) and one was a salted (assaulted)...peanut."
10. "In 1945, peace broke out. It was the end of the joke. Joke warfare was banned in a special session of the Geneva convention, and in ____, the last remaining copy of the joke was laid to rest here in the Berkshire countryside, never to be told again."

Answer: 1950

There is a memorial in Berkshire that honors the memory of THE UNKNOWN JOKE (not really, though). Thank you all for playing!
