Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Though in actuality this was only the third episode of the 'Flying Circus', at the beginning it is listed as episode '12B' with the title 'How to Recognize Different Types of _____ From Quite a Long Way Away'. What word goes in the blank?

Answer: Trees

The opening 'scenes' are presented as a slide show. We are shown a lovely picture of a larch tree. The same picture is shown several more times during the episode, much to the enjoyment of dendrophiles everywhere.
2. The first skit of this episode involves a court case. A certain Mr. Larch is accused of a fairly heinous crime. Of which type of offense has the defendant been accused?

Answer: Parking

Mr. Larch gives a wonderful soliloquy in his own defense, rousing the spirits of everyone but the judge who says, 'It's only a bloody parking offense'.
3. Among those that come to testify in Mr. Larch's case are a blabbermouth named Mrs. Fiona Lewis, the late Arthur Aldridge and which figure of French history?

Answer: Cardinal Richelieu

Cardinal Richelieu is in fact not actually the true Armand-Jean du Plessis, Cardinal-duke of Richelieu, first minister of French King Louis XIII, but Ron Higgins, professional Cardinal Richelieu impersonator. The key fact that undermines this so-called Richelieu's authenticity is that the real Cardinal died in December 1642.
4. Following several more lovely photos of the larch, we move to the second sketch of the episode. In this sketch, all every-day, law-abiding citizens are dressed just like which superhero?

Answer: Superman

Mr. F.G. Superman is the hero of this sketch, not because of his mighty strength, flying ability or even heat vision, but because he has an almighty alter-ego, namely 'Bicycle Repairman'.
5. The third sketch of this episode features Eric Idle reading lovely children's stories with lurid themes. What is this sketch entitled?

Answer: Storytime

The imaginative title 'Storytime' conceals the dirty deeds of the Pythons, as they turn a simple children's story book into every parent's nightmare. My favorite story begins: 'Rumpletweezer ran the Dinky Tinky Shop in the foot of the magic oak tree by the wobbly dum-dum bush in the shade of the magic glade down in Dingly Dell. There he sold contraceptives and...'

What a lovely story!
6. The restaurant sketch comes next. Here, a reserved young couple sits down at a fine three-star restaurant for a bit of French cuisine. Unfortunately, the gentleman notices that which tabletop item is unclean?

Answer: Fork

As an aside, the gentleman (Graham Chapman) says, 'Oh, by the way, I've got a bit of a dirty fork. Could you get me another one.' Little does he know that he has just sparked a chain of events that will lead to at least one death.
7. The employees at the restaurant seem quite upset about the bit of uncleanliness discovered by their patron. Which employee stabs himself as a result of the heinous customer dissatisfaction?

Answer: The manager

The manager uses the very fork that has been discovered to be so dirty to commit suicide. Meanwhile, the head chef, a Mr. Mungo, buries his cleaver in the table where the customers have been seated.

The punchline of the sketch: 'Good thing I didn't say anything about the dirty knife.'
8. Following the restaurant sketch, a series of Terry Gilliam animations are shown. The theme of these animations revolves around the purchase of what abstract thing?

Answer: A past

'Dullards like yourself can obtain photographs of other people's lives. Hang them in your den. Stand them on your desk, or next to your bed. Pretend that they are pictures from your past.'

The drawback, all of the people from the pictures might appear at your house and expect handouts!
9. Following the Terry Gilliam bit, we see Michael Palin dressed as what type of door-to-door delivery person, who becomes trapped in a bedroom with five others of his ilk?

Answer: Milkman

This milkman believes he has just become lucky, but in fact the woman who allows him into her house seems to have a fetish for locking milkmen into a small room. There are four other milkmen alive, and one dead, in the room with the unwitting Michael Palin character at the end of the sketch.
10. The final sketch of this episode is the classic 'Nudge, Nudge' episode with Eric Idle and Terry Jones. Behind all of his insinuations, what question is the Eric Idle character really trying to ask?

Answer: Have you ever slept with a lady?

After dozens of winks and nudges, the Eric Idle character finally gets to the point. 'Have you ever slept with a lady?' he asks. 'Well, yes,' the Terry Jones character responds. 'What's it like?' Eric Idle asks.
