Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What color was the long gone 'Buy A Vowel' space on 'Wheel Of Fortune' in the 1970's?

Answer: Red

The other three colors represent the other worded {spaces;} yellow for Lose A Turn, black for Bankrupt, and tan for Free Spin (also no longer used)
2. What was the name of the short-lived predecessor of 'Press Your Luck' in 1977?

Answer: Second Chance

'Second Chance', identical to the 'Press Your Luck' format, only consisted of cash amounts, prizes, and devils. When the show was brought back in 1983 as 'Press Your Luck', the cash amounts increased, other spaces were added (Move Forward, +One Spin, etc.), and most noticably, the devils were changed to the famous (or infamous) 'whammies'.

This second stint of the show proved to be far more successful than the original, spending three years on CBS from 1983-1986
3. Charles Van Doren, a prime suspect in the quiz show scandals of the late 1950's, appearing on which scandalized game show?

Answer: 21

Charles Van Doren won a total of {$129,000} on '21'. On November 2, 1959, he appeared before a Washington grand jury to tell the truth about the rigging of the questions and receiving the answers before the show. He faced severe consequences by losing his jobs at NBC (where he worked for the 'Today Show') and Columbia University (where he taught mathematics and astronomy)
4. So who was 'The Unknown Comic' under the paper bag?

Answer: Murray Langston

Answer: Feelings

'Feelings' was a big hit for Morris Albert in 1975, one year before 'The Gong Show' made its debut!
6. Who was the first female to host a game show?

Answer: Arlene Francis

Arlene Francis hosted 'Blind Date' in 1949. Sarah Purcell co-hosted 'The Better Sex' with Bill Anderson in 1977, Betty White won an Emmy for her hosting job on 'Just Men' in 1983, and Elaine Joyce hosted 'The All-New Dating Game' in 1986.
7. Who did NOT appear on 'Tattletales' in its premier week of February 18, 1974?

10. Which former 'Laugh-In' regular hosted the late 70's game show 'Knockout'?
