Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Gambit
Answer: Elaine Stewart
Elaine Stewart was born Elsy Steinberg. Before "Gambit" she appeared in several movies and also posed as a model for several magazines. In addition to "Gambit" she was also the co-host of the nighttime version of "High Rollers". "Gambit" was hosted by veteran personality Wink Martindale.
It ran from September 1972 to December 1976. The object of "Gambit" was to earn cards (giant ones turned by the hostess) by answering questions correctly and to reach 21 without going over (as in Blackjack).
2. High Rollers
Answer: Ruta Lee
Canadian born Ruta Lee was a singer and dancer. She became a fixture on game shows in the 60s and 70s. "High Rollers" debuted on July 1, 1974 with Alex Trebek as the host. Ruta was the "roller" on the original weekday version while Elaine Stewart performed that duty on the weekly syndicated nighttime version.
The game was loosely based on a dice game called "Shut The Box" where numbers are "cleared" through dice rolls.
3. The Big Payoff
Answer: Bess Myerson
A former Miss America, Bess Myerson set the standard for glamorous game show models. While there were other models on the show, Bess got top billing as the co-host and could be seen on every episode modeling a mink coat, one of the top prizes on the show.
As a child she studied piano and earned money while in college by giving lessons. "The Big Payoff" had various formats during its run, but all involved answering questions to win prizes. The show's theme song was Irving Berlin's "A Pretty Girl Is Like A Melody".
4. Let's Make A Deal with Monty Hall
Answer: Carol Merrill
Carol Merrill was the model for the original "Let's Make A Deal" for the show's entire run from 1963 to 1977. Along with original announcer Jay Stewart, Carol made a guest appearance on one of the newer versions of the show in 1986. Following her stint on "Let's Make A Deal" she became active in the areas of natural health and environmental issues.
5. The Price is Right with Bob Barker
Answer: Janice Pennington
A former Playboy playmate, Janice Pennington was a model on "The Price Is Right" from 1972 to 2000. She was one of "Barker's Beauties" (referring to the show's original host Bob Barker). She was also a co-founder of the Hollywood Film Festival. During a taping of the show in 1988 she was struck by a camera and knocked unconscious.
The scar and other after effects of the resulting surgery rendered her no longer able to wear swimsuits on the show. Her last episode was aired on December 13, 2000.
6. Let's Make A Deal with Wayne Brady
Answer: Tiffany Coyne
Tiffany was born in Layton, Utah. Her professional career began after she graduated high school when she became a member of the dance team for the Utah Jazz of the NBA. When "Let's Make A Deal" relaunched in 2009 with Wayne Brady as host, Tiffany replaced Alison Fiori as the model. The first season's episodes were taped in Las Vegas, but the show moved to Los Angeles in season two.
7. The Price Is Right with Drew Carey
Answer: Amber Lancaster
Amber Lancaster's TV career began on MTV where she portrayed a character named Jenny Swanson on the series "The Hard Times of RJ Berger". She joined "The Price Is Right" as a model in 2008. Drew Carey took over as host of the show in October, 2007, replacing long-time host Bob Barker.
8. Lingo
Answer: Stacey Hayes
Born in London, England and raised in Nebraska Stacey Hayes has been active in nearly all aspects of the entertainment business, from competitive ice skating to infomercial spokesperson as well as several film and TV appearances. She joined Chuck Woolery as co-host of "Lingo" in 2005 on the Game Show Network.
9. The Chase
Answer: Brooke Burns
Brooke Burns and "The Chase" were both nominated for Daytime Emmy Awards in 2014--she for "Outstanding Game Show Host" and of course "The Chase" for "Outstanding Game Show". She was in the cast of "Baywatch" from 1998 to 2001 and has had roles in several movies and commercials. "The Chase" originated in England and was a big hit both there and in Australia before the American version premiered on the Game Show Network.
10. Deal or No Deal
Answer: Claudia Jordan
Claudia Jordan's TV experience includes a two year stint as one of "Barker's Beauties" on "The Price Is Right" and two appearances on Donald Trump's "Celebrity Apprentice". But as model #1 on the American version of "Deal Or No Deal" she came into prominence. Since then she has hosted a radio show on Sirius XM radio and has made guest appearances on several TV shows.
