Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Lassie Did a Bad Bad Thing"- After years of pursuit, Lassiter arrested a gang leader. What disturbing news did Lassiter receive shortly afterward?

Answer: The FBI gave the gangster a witness relocation deal

Lassiter was furious that the man, leader of the notorious Cinco Reyes, would be allowed the live out his life in comfort and protection after he'd pursued him for so long. The man agreed to turn over any information he could, in order to escape prison time. Some kingpin he turned out to be, huh?
2. "Any Given Night at 10PM, 9PM Central"- Shawn went undercover to solve a possible murder. What sport did he infiltrate and what was the body part of the missing player?

Answer: Football and a foot

The foot was found in a nearby hiking area and brought into the SBPD. Shawn was able to see that whoever it belonged to had to be a person who kicked without a shoe on a regular basis. It lead them all to the local pro-football team (the Thunderbirds), which was missing one if its kickers. The team tried to distract Shawn and Gus by insinuating Vlad owed a lot of money to Russian mobsters.
Mykelti Williams guest-starred as Sammy, the coach and former star of the team.
3. "Any Given Night at 10PM, 9PM Central"- Though Vlad was found dead in the lake, Shawn wanted 24 hours to disprove the Russian mob theory. Who, if any, was the REAL killer(s) of Vlad?

Answer: No one killed him, it was an ATV accident

Three of the teammates called themselves The Warriors as a reference to their particular wild ways. Shawn noticed that one of these teammates (Matt) had the same wound on his wrist as was on Vlad's body. He also saw that another teammate (Vince) had poison oak on his leg, as did the severed foot belonging to Vlad. The third man, Drew, acted like they all barely knew Vlad, and referred to him in the past tense before the body was even found. So, Shawn and Sammy decided to use fear to make the killer reveal himself. Instead, what was revealed was that Vlad's death was an accident. The men had clauses in their contract to prevent dangerous activities. If they hurt themselves or others, Sammy could kick them off the team, so the three men covered up Vlad's accidental death as a Russian mob hit.

Christopher Wiehl played Matt and Kofi Natei played Vince.
4. In "Truer Lies", who played the pathological liar, Ryan Bainsworth, who finally had a real story he needed to be believed?

Answer: Jonathan Silverman

Ryan had a knack for telling wild, but almost believable tales. Shawn, who also has shown his own knack for the tall tales, could see that Ryan was telling the truth about the murder of his landlord. He convinced a doubting Gus to stay onboard, and help him save both Ryan and the other witness.
I believe I first saw Jonathan on the TV series "Gimme a Break" and the movie "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" in the early/mid 1980s.

Marc Price played Skippy on the popular 80s sitcom "Family Ties", and both John Cusack and Anthony Michael Hall had 80s success in such films as "Sixteen Candles", "Breakfast Club", and "Say Anything".
5. In the movie spoofing episode "Tuesday the 17th", who was Gus' old Camp Tikihama pal that returned to ask for some detective work from Psych?

Answer: Jason

Jason and Gus made a pineapple piņata back in 1988 that won an award at camp. Shawn was still feeling betrayed that Gus had abandoned him to partner up with Jason. Shawn wanted no part in aiding Jason with the mysterious disappearance of camp counselor Annie. Gus insisted that they could help, so back to Tikihama they went. Jason had purchased the camp and didn't want bad publicity before the season opened..or so he said.
6. "Tuesday the 17th"- Though it seemed like Jason was crazy (like one Jason Vorhees before him), he was really playing a trick on Shawn. Shawn figured it out and thought at first it was the "Friday the 13th" franchise being acted out, but what movie spoof did he realize it was after all?

Answer: April Fool's Day

The 80s horror spoof "April Fool's Day" revolved around a group of people being invited out to a camp for the weekend, only to be seemingly killed off one by one. In truth, the host arranged a murder mystery weekend and each time a person was "killed", they were let in on the scenario. It was true, Jason wanted to start an adult murder mystery camp and Annie was just fine. That was the end of the story..or so we thought. Jason enlisted Gus' help in pranking Shawn as a test run for his camp.

Jason was played by 80s child star MacKenzie Astin, brother of "Lord of the Rings" star Sean Astin.
7. "Tuesday the 17th"- Just when it seemed like everything would be OK, people started to die for real. Who turned out to be the killer?

Answer: Clive- the resident funny man

Clive had signed on to avenge the death of his father, but came across as the funny guy. He was the resident camp humorist, finding the "funny" in the most inappropriate places. In several horror movies, this character type always seemed suspicious as a possible killer only to be killed later. Thankfully Juliet was at the camp with Shawn and Gus, and was able to save them from Clive.
Clive was played by actor Elden Henson. Elden is sometimes billed as Elden Ratliff (his birth name) and was in the films "Butterfly Effect" and "Deva Vu".

This episode was co-written by series creator Steve Franks and the star James Roday. Roday also directed this episode, which I believe was his first. This was James' fifth writing credit for "Psych".
8. In "An Evening With Mr. Yang", we saw the reappearance of the Yin Yang killer. Who did the killer specifically call out as the person he wanted to work with in this episode?

Answer: Shawn

The killer wanted to work with Shawn, and made it clear that Shawn had to be involved in order to stop him or her from murdering someone. Shawn unraveled the first clue, which led them back to the place they'd enjoyed breakfast. It was near/on the pier next to their business.

They found a stopwatch, counting down, hanging from the locker of the waitress who served them earlier. They later found the waitress, alive, in Shawn's mom's hotel room.
9. "An Evening With Mr. Yang"- The second clue led from the restaurant back to the police station in this season three finale. What was clue number two?

Answer: a white rat named Ben

Ben was waiting inside his cage, which was wrapped in brown shipping paper, to be discovered as clue number two. Shawn's mom was also there when they all arrived back at the station. She warned Shawn, on behalf of his worried dad, to back off from this crazy killer. Shawn said that this was his job, and if he could stop the killer he had to do everything in his power. Ben's cage held a clue on top and a stopwatch inside.

The clue told Shawn to read the "fine print". He realized that it had to be newspaper under the rat's cage shavings.

He lifted the cage and found the newspaper and they all moved on to the next clue.
10. In the season three finale, after catching the Yin Yang killer, did Shawn ever meet his high school sweetheart Abigail for a date?

Answer: Yes

They met at the theater, despite Abby's earlier belief Shawn was lying to blow off their date. She was still wary of his intentions after being left on a pier in high school. At the theater, Juliet show up as well. She finally realized she had feelings for Shawn, but it was such bad timing. She finally realized him and he had finally given up on her! It was clear that it killed Shawn to send Juliet on her way, but he did and went on his date with Abby. They sat at the drive-in theater and watched "It's a Gift" with Gus in the back seat.

The killer turned out to be a woman, despite the constant misdirection toward Officer Mary Lightly, played by actor Jimmi Simpson. Ally Sheedy played the killer, "Mr. Yang". Jimmie Simpson is a great character actor and has guest starred in many TV shows, like "24", "My Name is Earl", and "CSI".

I hope you, like myself, enjoyed another season of "Psych"!
