Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Is Shawn Spencer really a psychic?

Answer: No

Of course he isn't, hence the title of the series. What he is, though, is a very good detective. Shawn is played with great hilarity by actor James Roday. James was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1976, which made him thirty when "Psych" made its network debut. James played Billy Prickett in the 2005 film remake of "The Dukes of Hazzard".
2. Who is Shawn's best buddy and business partner?

Answer: Gus

Gus and Shawn have had a long history as friends. In the first episode, Shawn roped Gus into aiding him in "psyching out" the police, in order to solve crimes for money. Gus reluctantly accompanied Shawn and they solved the disappearance and death of Camden McCallum, Jr.
Dule Hill played Gus in season one. Fans may remember him for his years as Charlie Young on "The West Wing".
3. What is the name of the business that Shawn opened on behalf of himself and Gus?

Answer: Psych

Shawn rented a space for a detective agency, and called it Psych. He rented the space out in Gus' name, giving his reluctant pal almost no choice but to join in. Gus kept his "real" job throughout season one, as a pharmaceutical liaison.
4. What is noticeable about Interim Chief Vick, when you first see her in the "Pilot"?

Answer: she is pregnant

Kirsten Nelson played Karen Vick in season one. Shawn first encountered her after Detective Carlton Lassiter brought him in for questioning. In the "Pilot", Shawn solved a case by watching news footage. So, after he called in the solution, he went in personally to collect a fee for his services.

Naturally, Carlton suspected he was in on the crime, but Shawn was able to fool so many people in the police department, they hired him for his faux psychic abilities. "Buffy" fans might be able to place Kirsten's face for her two appearances in season six as Buffy's boss Lorraine Ross, from the Doublemeat Palace.
5. Detective Carlton Lassiter was having a romantic relationship with his partner in the "Pilot". What was her name?

Answer: Lucinda

Carlton was still married at the time, though his wife was not living with him. Lucinda was transferred after the first episode, and played by actress Anne Dudek. Anne has had many small roles in TV. Some of her guest spots include "ER", "Desperate Housewives", "Charmed", "Invasion", "Bones", and "How I Met Your Mother".
6. Who became Carlton Lassiter's partner after the "Pilot" episode?

Answer: Juliet O'Hara

Actress Maggie Lawson joined Timothy Omundson as the skeptical detectives Shawn always seemed to outwit. Timothy may best be remembered as Sean Potter for several seasons on "Judging Amy".
The other three choices are a small homage to the ladies of "The View", though Meredith Vieira left in 2006 to join Matt Lauer on "The Today Show".
7. Played by Corbin Bernsen, what job did Shawn's father have before he retired?

Answer: police officer

Before each episode starts off in the present day, we get to see a small glimpse of the past. In each one, Henry is teaching Shawn some kind of lesson. The lessons are usually a little bit mean, but prove invaluable for Shawn's future. It was Henry's job as a police officer that proved to be the most important, since Henry trained Shawn to hone his seemingly photographic memory.
8. What is revealed about Gus in the season one summer finale?

Answer: he is a comic book lover

Gus was revealed to be a very smart guy throughout season one. He can spell really well, he too has a great memory, and he is a loyal friend. Gus is also a bit of a fantasy geek, and in the season summer finale accompanied Shawn to a comic convention called TriCon. Season one was set to continue in January 2007.
9. In the season one summer finale, "Shawn VS. The Red Phantom", what was the name of the blogger Gus followed online?

Answer: Malcontent

Malcontent was really an eighteen year old kid named Malone Breyfogle. His mother had reported him missing, and Juliet enlisted Shawn to help with the case. Lassiter and Vick were not in the department at the time, so Juliet wanted Shawn to informally help her. Shawn solved the case, at TriCon, where Malone and two studio employees were being held captive by a bitter comic book writer. TriCon was short for the tri-annual comic book and science fiction convention.

The comic writer was mad because the movie version of his comic had practically ruined its appeal. Malone, as Malcontent, had praised another comic based film for money, after trashing it prior to being paid.
10. Did Interim Chief Vick have a baby girl in the season one summer finale?

Answer: Yes

Since Vick's husband was stuck in traffic, Carlton became her birth coach. He cut the cord and everything, and then held the baby for several moments. He told Karen and the doctor his wife had left him, one reason being she thought he hadn't wanted any children.

He also said that it wasn't true. At the end of most episodes, maybe all of season one's summer episodes, was a segment called a "psych-out". In the summer season finale, Shawn and Gus were seen singing in music video fashion to "I'll Make Love to You" by Boys II Men.

Then, Juliet popped into the room and joined the men. Gus told her to get out of their psych out.
