Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Hawkeye and Trapper take a pint of Frank's blood while he is sleeping to give to an enemy soldier. The soldier develops hepatitis, and it is Hawkeye and Trapper's job to find out if Frank's blood is to blame.

Answer: "Germ Warfare"

Hawkeye and Trapper trick Frank into drinking a beer so they could obtain a urine sample. Then, while they are waiting for the test results, they have to make sure that Frank doesn't operate on patients (or on Margaret). They even go so far as to handcuff his arms around Margaret so that he won't enter the operating room and potentially spread the disease.
2. General Clayton is having a movie made of the 4077th. Unfortunately, it's not very honest or very good. Hawkeye and Trapper decide to sabotage the movie and make their own. They poke fun at Army Regulations, the war and even their own profession. The ending, however, is what hits home with them all. What's the title of this wacky episode?

Answer: "Yankee Doodle Doctor"

They have had enough of the Hollywood director, so Hawkeye and Trapper break into the foot locker where the film is kept and expose it. They then come up with the brilliant idea to make the film themselves, including such probs as a rubber chicken, "rusty" saw, and a watch lost in a patient's abdomen. Hawkeye's monologue at the end is the most touching.
3. While Henry is at a medical conference, Hawkeye and Trapper decide to raise money for Ho-Jon to go to school in the states by raffling off a nurse (Lieutenant Dish, to be precise). The raffle party gets foiled when Margaret calls General Barker to put a stop to it. Hawkeye and Trapper are put under arrest, until casualties come in. When it's all over, the general decides to drop the charges and let them go. Which famous episode is this?

Answer: "M*A*S*H - The Pilot"

Hawkeye and Trapper sedate Frank, wrap his head in gauze, and put him in post-op so that he can't interfere. They obviously underestimate Margaret's abilities and connections, as she is the one that calls the general. As for who "won" the delectable Lieutenant Dish, that would be Father Mulcahy!
4. Hydrocortizone has been lifted from the 4077th by the black market. After a failed attempt to aquire more legally, Hawkeye and Trapper go to Seoul to talk with a big dealer, who agrees to supply them with the nesessary drug in return for the antique oak desk residing in Henry's office. After being locked inside the office by Majors Burns and Houlihan, Hawkeye and Trapper knock down the back wall and have the desk flown out by helicopter.

Answer: "To Market, To Market"

Henry is so proud of that desk; he brags about it like a father would brag about his newborn baby. Hawkeye and Trapper first went to Henry to try to get more Hydrocortizone. Henry, trying not to make waves, doesn't push the issue when he is turned down, leaving Hawkeye and Trapper to their own devices. I'll bet Henry was regretting that move when he saw his desk fly away!
5. Trapper and Margaret operate on a difficult chest wound while Father Mulcahy says his prayers. A dentist with orders to go home is so paranoid about getting injured while still in Korea won't even use the latrine for fear of an infection. The Miller Sisters sing their heart out, Henry impatiently awaits the news regarding his expecting wife and newborn child, and Radar surprises everyone with a drum solo.

Answer: "Showtime"

I'm surprised that the dentist also didn't give up eating in the mess tent for fear of food poisoning (I sure would have). He ends up breaking his leg when he hits the gas instead of the break on his way to the airport. After many phone calls and one false alarm, Henry finds out that he has a son (unfortunately, he never gets to meet this child, as he is killed at the end of the third season).
6. Henry leave the 4077th in command of Major Frank M. Burns while he goes out golfing. Hawkeye and Trapper are desperate for some R&R (rest and recreation), so Hawkeye pretends he has gone crazy. Frank and Margaret are concerned, so they call a psychiatrist (Captain Sherman) in to check him out. In a fit of desperation, Hawkeye admits that he is in love with Frank. Captain Sherman is concerned enough about Hawkeye's behavior that he recommends he be placed in a treatment facility, leaving Hawkeye to try to convince Captain Sherman that it was all a joke.

Answer: "Bananas, Crackers and Nuts"

Written by Burt Styler, and excellently directed by Bruce Bilson, this is easily one of my favorite episodes. In order to convince Frank and Margaret that Hawkeye really has lost it, he dresses in his operating garb (including gloves) and eats a liver that he claims to have taken from a North Korean that died.

The final straw for the two Majors is when Hawkeye attacks Frank for touching his plate when he "wasn't sterile". Captain Sherman has a crush from long ago on Major Houlihan, and in a later episode, is portraying a cosmetic surgeon on the hunt for the "barracuda", which he believes is Margaret. Very funny.
7. When a rash of thefts plague the members of the 4077th, Henry takes charge and orders a search of all tents. When the stolen merchandise appear in Hawkeye's footlocker, even Trapper doesn't trust him. Determined to clear his name, Hawkeye sets a trap that reveals who the true thief is.

Answer: "I Hate A Mystery"

Among the missing items was a silver picture frame belonging to Frank, Margaret's hairbrushes, Trapper's watch, and Hawkeye's "stizzle swick". Hawkeye's trap was ingenious, and couldn't have proved any better that he was innocent. By the way, shouldn't Ho-Jon be in school in the United States?
8. A valuable commodity is passed around camp like a "hot" potato. This item was first in the possession of Hawkeye (a gift from his father) and was passed around camp by way of bribe, gambling, theft and trade. Which episode is this?

Answer: "The Longjohn Flap"

A freebie to my fellow M*A*S*H-aholics, this episode was written by none other than Alan Alda himself. The longjohns are first in Hawkeye's possession, a gift from his father. From there they are passed to Trapper, Radar, the cook, Frank, Margaret, Klinger, Father Mulcahy, Henry, and finally back to Hawkeye again.

It was a fun episode of bribery, thievery, confession, and zany antics that only the 4077th can provide!
9. Hawkeye and Trapper have gone too far. After taping and broadcasting a private conversation between Frank and Margaret, they decide to request transfers. That is, until Hawkeye and Trapper convince Frank that there is gold in the hills of Korea. Margaret wants to leave, but Frank convinces her to stay by telling her that he will become rich enough to divorce his wife and marry her. Hawkeye and Trapper should have just let them go.

Answer: "Major Fred C. Dobbs"

I know, Frank put in his request for transfer before the conversation incident took place. This scene was adapted from the movie, in which the same thing takes place (that's where they find out that Margaret's nickname is 'Hot Lips'). In my honest opinion, the broadcast scene in the movie is funnier than the one in this episode.
10. Colonel Buzz Brighton is a highly decorated soldier and commander. Unfortunately, he's wounded twice as many of his troops as he has medals on his chest. Trapper and Hawkeye decide to put a stop to his tirade by convincing him that he's suffering from battle fatigue.

Answer: "The Ringbanger"

Brilliantly played by Leslie Neilson, Buzz Brighton arrives at the 4077th with a slug in his butt. Among the pranks the pair of zany doctors play on him is constantly moving the speaker to the P.A. (public announcement) system (which indicates which tent Buzz is residing), getting Colonel Blake drunk and then telling him that he needs to earn a special merit badge for night shooting, convincing Buzz that Frank is gay, and that Margaret is a boozer.

They finally do convince Buzz to take some time off in States.
