James Arness played Matt Dillon on "Gunsmoke" in all 633 episodes over its 21 year/20 season run.
The cast included, Amanda Blake as Miss Kitty, Milburn Stone as 'Doc' Adams, Dennis Weaver as Chester Goode and Ken Curtis as Festus Hagen. Burt Reynolds had the recurring role of Quint Asper 1962-1965 appearing in 50 episodes.

"The Lawman" starring John Russell as Marshall Dan Troop, ran from late 1958 through October 1962. Other regular stars were Peter Brown as deputy Johnny McKay and Peggie Castle as saloon owner Lily Merrill.
3. Lucas McCain

"The Rifleman" starred Chuck Connors as Lucas McCain. Johnny Crawford played his son Mark and veteran character actor Paul Fix played Marshall Micah Torrance. The series ran for 5 seasons and was very popular.
As was the custom in the early 1960's, Johnny Crawford recorded some pop songs and had some top 40 success.

When "High Chaparral" finished in 1971 the only other westerns on our screens were, "The Virginian", "Bonanza" and "Gunsmoke". "The Virginian" by then called "The Men From Shiloh" also ended later in 1971

A star in the 1930's and 1940's John Payne played the role of Vint Bonner in "The Restless Gun".
6. Bill Longley
Answer: The Texan
The Texan starred Rory Calhoun as Bill Longley. As was the way of early television shows Longley was shown as a gunfighting hero rather than the outlaw he actually was. In reality Bill Longley bragged he had killed 32 men, at age 27 he was captured and hung.
7. Adam Cartwright
Answer: Bonanza
The eldest son of the Cartwright clan from "Bonanza". Superbly played by Pernell Roberts. The other Cartwrights were, Hoss played by Dan Blocker, Little Joe played by Michael Landon and Lorne Greene starred as the patriarch, Ben Cartwright. "Bonanza" ranked second to "Gunsmoke" in longevity running from 1959 to 1973.
The producers wisely filmed the entire series in colour, which is why the show is a staple of the re-runs.
8. Flint McCullough

Robert Horton played Flint McCullough the scout on "Wagon Train" for the first five seasons of its eight season run. Ward Bond until his death in 1961 and John McIntire from 1961 to 1965 played the wagon master. Veteran stuntmen and character actors, Frank McGrath and Terry Wilson appeared in almost every episode. Frank McGrath as cook, Charlie Wooster and Terry Wilson as Bill Hawks as the second scout and assistant to the wagon master.
9. Tom Brewster

As part of the revolving "Cheyenne" series, "Sugarfoot" concerned the wanderings of a young man trying to study for a law degree. Played by Will Hutchins, Tom Brewster was called "Sugarfoot because he drank milk or sarsaparilla and did not carry a gun. Sugarfoot lasted for 69 episodes over five seasons.
10. Gil Favor

Eric Fleming played Trail Boss, Gil Favor in this exciting series about a cattle drive. "Rawhide" also starred Clint Eastwood, Paul Brinegar and Sheb Wooley. The series premiered in 1959 and lasted till 1966. Before the series began its run Sheb Wooley had achieved a gold record, for his 1958 smash hit "Purple People Eater" which he also wrote. Sadly, Eric Fleming drowned after being swept away in rapids, while shooting locations in Peru.
