Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The tenth Doctor seems to have a habit of reconnecting with old friends. What is the correct order of his first five reunions with former companions?

Answer: Sarah Jane Smith, Mickey Smith, Jack Harkness, Donna Noble, Martha Jones

The Doctor reunited with Sarah Jane in the season 2 episode "School Reunion." He reconnected with Mickey in the Season 2 episode "Army of Ghosts." He reunited with Jack Harkness in the season 3 episode "Utopia." His reunion with Donna occurred in the season 4 episode "Partners in Crime," and his reunion with Martha came during season 4's episode "The Sontaran Stratagem."
2. The Doctor is very willing to take on new companions. After all, the TARDIS has plenty of room! Which of these lists contains the names of people who all, at some point, refused the Doctor's offer to travel with him?

Answer: Donna Noble, Joan Redfern, Mickey Smith, Sarah Jane Smith

Donna initially refused the Doctor's offer, but realized her mistake and took a rare second chance to travel with him. The TARDIS transformed the Doctor into mild-mannered school teacher John Smith. As a human, he fell in love with matron Joan Redfern.

After he transformed himself back into the Doctor, he invited Joan to become his companion, but she refused because she was unable to accept him as the Doctor. Mickey Smith, Rose Tyler's boyfriend, initially refused to travel with the Doctor out of cowardice.

After undergoing a lot of person growth, he chose to join the Doctor and Rose and ended up becoming very courageous. After the Doctor reunited with Sarah Jane Smith, he invited her to come back to the TARDIS permanently. She refused, citing the fact that it was time for her to move on with her life.
3. The Doctor has a habit of kissing his companions for strange reasons. Which three companions did he share kisses with for life-saving reasons?

Answer: Donna Noble, Rose Tyler, Martha Jones

In season 4 episode "The Unicorn and the Wasp," Donna kissed the Doctor in order to save him from dying of poison. In the bittersweet finale of season 1, "The Parting of the Ways," the ninth Doctor kissed Rose in order to save her by absorbing the time vortex from her.

In season 3's "Smith and Jones," the Doctor kissed Martha in order to give himself enough time to escape from the Judoon, who were planning to kill anyone with alien DNA.
4. The tenth Doctor was reluctant to tell Martha Jones about his past and the loss of his home planet of Gallifrey. In which episode did he finally tell her the truth after she pressured him?

Answer: "Gridlock"

The Doctor revealed the truth to Rose Tyler earlier in their relationship, during the season 1 episode "The End of the World." This twist separated the new series from the classic series.
5. Which two companions left the Doctor out of unavoidable necessity?

Answer: Astrid Perth, Rose Tyler

Astrid died in the season 4 Christmas special "Voyage of the Damned," and Rose and the Doctor were separated by parallel universes in "Doomsday."
6. Which companions traveled to the future on their first trip with the Doctor?

Answer: Rose Tyler, Adam Mitchell, Mickey Smith

The Doctor took Rose five billion years into the future; Adam accompanied the Doctor and Rose to the year 200,000, and Mickey accompanied the Doctor and Rose to a spaceship from the 51st century.
7. The Doctor desperately sought the companionship of two people who died before they could accompany him on the TARDIS. What were their names?

Answer: The Master and Reinette

The Doctor was unable to control the time between his visits to Reinette, so his last visit was right after her death, even though it had only been a few minutes for him. The Master allowed himself to die without regenerating in order to escape traveling with the Doctor.
8. Which companion's body was possessed by another person who definitely fancied the Doctor?

Answer: Rose Tyler

In season 2's "New Earth," Rose's body was taken over by Cassandra, who proceeded to immediately snog the Doctor. Cassandra was voiced by Zoe Wanamaker.
9. Family members of the Doctor's companions seem to get pulled into the action frequently. Which two companions had their grandparents featured in the show?

Answer: Donna Noble and Mickey Smith

Donna's grandfather is a huge part of her life and served as a recurring character in season 4. Mickey's grandmother passed away, but he found that she was still living in a parallel world, and he left the Doctor to be with her.
10. The end of season 3 revealed the possibility that the Doctor may have met one of his companions previously without knowing it was the same person. Which companion was this?

Answer: Jack Harkness

The Doctor had several meaningful and cryptic encounters with the Face of Boe over the course of season 3. In the season finale, adventurer Jack Harkness revealed that in his youth in the Boeshane Peninsula, he was himself referred to as "the Face of Boe". This nickname came about because he was the first person from the peninsula "to be signed up for the Time Agency" thereby becoming a poster boy for the area.

It is never confirmed that Jack and the Face of Boe are one and the same and series producer Russell T Davies has always refused to elaborate on the suggestion, referring to it as merely "a theory".
