Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the season premiere, "The Leap Back", what is different about the leap?

Answer: Sam and Al have swapped places

Due to a lightning strike at the end of season 3, Sam becomes the hologram and Al is the person assigned the mission. It is indeed before Sam's lifetime (1945) but Sam is not the one who makes the leap. Al ends up saving the person he leaps into from being murdered; while in the 'real' timezone, Sam remembers he is married and reunites briefly with his wife.
2. In the episode "Permanent Wave", what does the title refer to in terms the person Sam leaps into?

Answer: He's a male hairdresser

Sam leaps into Frank Bianca, a male hair stylist in California in 1983. His quest is to save a single mother and her child, who witnessed a murder.
3. The episode "The Wrong Stuff" is something of a unique "Quantum Leap" episode. Why?

Answer: Sam leaps into an animal

Sam leaps into Bobo, a chimp being tested for the chimp astronaut program. Sam's job is to stop Bobo (and other chimps) from being taken off the astronaut program and moved into the very dangerous (in fact deadly) helmet testing area. Sam escapes and saves the life of a man to prove Bobo's worth.
4. In the episode "A Single Drop of Rain", Sam not only fulfills his quest by keeping the relationship together, but it also miraculously rains to break a drought that initially didn't break for several months.

Answer: True

Sam leaps into Billy Beaumont, a travelling salesman returning to his home town in Texas, peddling some dubious solutions to make it rain by experimental cloud-seeding. Incredibly, even though it didn't rain for a number of months in the original history, Sam does something right...it pours just before he leaps at the end.
5. In "The Play's the Thing", which play (alluded to in the title) does Sam play a starring role in?

Answer: Hamlet

The quotation is from Hamelt, Act II, Scene II: "The play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king". The catch for Sam is that at the last minute the director decides the play should be done nude. Sam, while embarrassed, agrees to go ahead to fulfill his quest to keep the man's mother in the city so she can live her dream of becoming a singer.
6. In the episode "Temptation Eyes", what happens to Sam when he meets a psychic?

Answer: She discovers who Sam is

Sam and the psychic, Tamyla, end up falling for each other and they embark on a few romantic days together. Tamyla sees Sam as he really is in the mirror so he is force to admit that he's not really the reporter he lept into.
7. In "The Last Gunfighter", Sam achieves his quest by out-drawing a professional gunfighter in a duel. Does Al help him achieve this by accessing his brainwaves?

Answer: No

Amazingly, Sam manages to out-draw on his own, despite his practice sessions not going very well at all. Sam atones for the lies that Tyler Means (the man he leaps into) told about his gunfighting exploits, and in doing so, saves the man's life.
8. In the episode "Roberto!", what is Sam's occupation?

Answer: Talk show host

Sam plays a talk show host who usually deals with trivial topics, but uncovers a local factory's plans to make secret weapons. With the help of a fellow journalist, he foils the plans, saving her life in the meantime.
9. In the episode "It's A Wonderful Leap", Sam meets a woman who can not only see Al, but also claims to be what?

Answer: An angel

So we find out that Al can be seen and heard by young children, animals, people with mental illness, and angels. Sam leaps into a cab driver named Max Greenman. After apparently failing in his quest to win a license for Max, Sam alters history so that Max goes into business with his father instead.
10. In the season finale, "A Leap for Lisa", Sam changes Al's history for the worse when what happens (temporarily at least)?

Answer: Al is executed for murder

Sam leaps into Al as a young cadet, nicknamed Bingo. He unintentionally alters Al's destiny when suddenly, Al is replaced by a new (very formal speaking) hologram, Edward. Luckily Sam manages to solve the crime and save Al, and as a bonus, also Lisa, who was originally killed in a car crash.
