Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Dr. Sam Becket can only leap within his own lifetime. When did that {begin;} i.e., what day was he born?

Answer: August 8, 1953

It was also the date to which he lept in the final episode, 'Mirror Image'.
2. Against the premise stated in the first question, Sam has lept 4 times to dates before his date of birth. Which of the following was the date of his furthest leap back in time?

Answer: September 20, 1862

He lept into his great-grandfather during the Civil War in 'The Leap Between The States'. The leap was possible theoretically because they were genetically similar. Other pre-birth leaps: 1. When Sam and Al simu-leaped, a little bit of Sam went back with Al to 1945.

This enabled Sam to leap into Al in 1945, eight years before his birth (ep 'The Leap Back'). 2. In two early episodes, Sam lept back to 1953 before his birthday. Arguably, he was alive, just in utero. (I just wrote this off as writers' errors.)
3. What stand-up comic occasionally played Gooshie, one of the projects technicians in the 'present'?

Answer: Dennis Wolfberg

Dennis Wolfberg was a very funny comic. He appeared at clubs in Washington, Denver, Chicago, Boston, Florida and New York, and a representative said he was twice named America's top male comic in votes by club-goers and owners nationwide. In 1990 he won an American Comedy Award as best male stand-up. He died in 1994 of skin cancer.
4. Dr. Donna Eleese is Sam's long-suffering wife in the 'present'. Name one of two actresses who portrayed her?

Answer: Teri Hatcher

Teri Hatcher played Donna in college in 'Star-Crossed', where Sam steers her to trust men again and probably alters his own life. Mimi Kuzyk played her in the present, when Al and Sam traded places time-travelling in 'The Leap Back'.
5. Sam has lept into several athletes. Besides the trapeze artist and the professional wrestler, how many times has Sam lept into an athlete?

Answer: 7

Sports the athletes competed in: baseball (2), boxing (1), football (2), track and field (1), and basketball (1). For basketball, Sam lept into himself in high school to play a championship game.
6. Only once did Sam leap into a non-human. Who did he leap into?

Answer: Bobo, an astrochimp

Episode 'The Wrong Stuff'
7. Sam has lept into females a number of times. Who of the following was his first female leap (by episode airing, not leap date)?

Answer: Samantha Stormer, secretary at a sexist corporation

Episode 'What Price Gloria?'
8. What was Al's nickname as a young pilot?

Answer: Bingo

Episode 'A Leap for Lisa'
9. When Sam lept into young pilot Al Calavicci, he accidentally set forward events that would cause Al's death. When the certainty became 100 percent, Al's hologram disappeard and Edward St. John V appeared as his replacement. Who played St. John?

Answer: Roddy McDowall

St. John had no recollection of Al as a project member. He disappeared and Al reappeared (with no knowledge of his demise) after Sam found crucial evidence.
10. What was the evil leaper's name?

Answer: Alia

Episode 'Deliver Us From Evil'
11. How did Sam identify the evil leaper as a leaper (not that she was evil)?

Answer: He touched her, and they each could see through each other's auras

Alia was played by Renée Coleman.
12. Sam has lept into some real 'historic' people, not just story characters. Most of them were portrayed by actors (for the mirror image, waiting room, etc.). What one person, however, played themselves in the present's Waiting Room and mirror images?

Answer: Dr. Ruth Westheimer

Dr. Laura did appear in episode 'Roberto!' as herself, but was not the one lept into. Oswald and Presley were lept into, but of course were actors playing these figures.
13. What Saturday Night Live alum has played two characters in two episodes?

Answer: Charles Rocket

He played CDR Riker in 'A Leap for Lisa' and the Scroogesque Michael Blake in 'A Little Miracle'.
14. What was Sam's brother's name?

Answer: Tom

Sam made two leaps in a row to try and save his brother in Vietnam. One was just before Tom shipped out (Sam leaped into his teenaged self), and one was in Vietnam (Sam was one of Tom's Navy Seal squad). Tom Beckett was played by David Newsom.
15. What was Al's first wife's name?

Answer: Beth

She was married to him during his long Vietnamese imprisonment. Having no proof that he was still alive, she finally remarried after waiting at least the requisite 7 years.
16. After leaping into various periods of Lee Harvey Oswald's life, Sam finds Oswald is taking over more and more, and he can't stop the tragedy that is about to happen. He then leaps into a presidential Secret Service agent. Whose life does he save?

Answer: Jackie Kennedy

In Sam and Al's original history, both Kennedys were killed. Sam lept into the agent that ran up to the car and helped pull Jackie to safety.
17. What is the latest date that Sam has lept into (besides back to the 'present')?

Answer: Sep 16 1987

In episode 'Revenge'. He did leap into the other dates as well: 1981: Another Mother 1983: Permanent Wave 1985: Piano Man
18. What was Sam's last leap in the very last episode before he disappeared forever?

Answer: To Beth Calavicci's house to tell her to wait for Al

He basically kept her from remarrying. She and Al eventually reunited, and Al never became the flamboyant playboy.
19. How many times has Sam lept into a clergyman?

Answer: 2

Once into a priest (ep: 'Leap of Faith') and once into a rabbi (ep: 'Thou Shalt Not...')
20. How many times each were Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell nominated for Emmy Awards?

Answer: 4

In 1990-1993, for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series respectively. Sadly, neither won. For the Golden Globes, each won one award.
