Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first episode of "Quantum Leap" season 3 is called "The Leap Home". Why?

Answer: Sam leaps into himself as a teenager

This is in fact part one of a two part episode. While Sam's mission (according to Al, at least) is to simply win his high school basketball tournament, he also wants to fix a few other events in his life. This includes his sister marrying an abusive man, his father dying of a heart attack, and his brother dying in Vietnam. Sam wins the match and leaps out: into the Vietnam War alongside his brother (which begins part two).
2. In part two of "The Leap Home" Sam has a chance to save his brother's life in Vietnam. Does he succeed?

Answer: Yes

Sam changes his own history for the better, saving his brother Tom from dying in a surprise attack when he leaps into a fellow soldier nicknamed "Magic". At the end of the episode, just before he leaps, Tom calls him "brother", implying that somehow he knew it was Sam all along. This is also the first leap Sam makes outside the USA.
3. In the episode "Miss Deep South", what place does Sam achieve in the beauty pageant of the same name?

Answer: First

Sam's mission on this leap is to save the career of a fellow contestant, who originally posed for nude photographs. At the same time, he has to maintain at least third in the contest to ensure the girl he leaps into, Darlene, can go on to college with the prize money. He surprises everyone (including himself) by winning the pageant!
4. In the episode "A Little Miracle", Sam must persuade his Scrooge-like boss not to close down the Salvation Army mission. What helps Sam achieve this, with Al's help?

Answer: His boss can see and hear Al

Sam and Al re-create the scenes from "A Christmas Carol" by showing Sam's boss (Michael Blake) the ghosts of past, present and future. In the process, it sparks a romance between Blake and the Salvation Army Captain (Laura) and they eventually marry.
5. What is strange about Sam's experience in the episode "8½ Months"?

Answer: He is a pregnant woman

Sam is Billie Jean Crockett, a pregant teen in Claremore, Oklahoma who originally regrets giving her baby up for adoption. Strangely, Sam experiences many of the symptoms of pregnancy himself throughout the episode. After unsuccessfully attempting to unite Billie with the baby's father, her own father provides support at the end, allowing her to keep the baby. Sam leaps just before the baby is born.
6. In the episode "Glitter Rock", Sam's mission is to prevent the famous glam rocker Geoffrey "Tonic" Mole from being killed, but Al can't find out who originally committed the murder. Who does it turn out to be?

Answer: The band's manager

As it turns out, Tonic uncovered the band manager's habits of spending their money and this initially led to the murder of Tonic. Sam manages to save his life and also reunite him with his son.
7. In "Last Dance Before An Execution", what surprising situation does Sam find himself in at the start of the episode?

Answer: In an electric chair

Sam leaps into Jesus Ortega, a man convicted of murdering a priest in Florida in 1971. Jesus receives a last-minute repreive, giving him 48 hours to presumably prove Jesus' innocence. However, Sam discovers Jesus is in fact guilty of the crime and his mission is to save his co-accused, who is innocent. Sam leaps with seconds to spare before Jesus is executed.
8. In the episode "Rebel Without a Clue", Sam leaps into famous author Jack Kerouac.

Answer: False

Sam leaps into a biker named Shane "Funny Bone" Thomas. His mission is to save a fellow female biker, Becky, to leave life on the road and an abusive relationship with one of the other bikers. Jack Kerouac (played by Michael Bryan French) does appear, and helps Sam make his case to Becky.
9. What TV character does Sam leap into, in the season 3 episode of the same title?

Answer: Future Boy

"Future Boy" is Kenny Sharp, in a Missouri TV show in 1971. Sam is sent to save his co-star, Captain Galaxy, from being sent to a mental institution. In the process, Sam discovers that his co-star has come up with a very similar 'string' theory that makes time travel possible.
10. In the season 3 finale, "Shock Theater", where does Sam find himself?

Answer: In a mental institution

Sam's leap becomes very complicated when he is given shock therapy and begins to take on the personalities of some of his previous leaps. Eventually, Al convinces him to take another shock to allow him to leap.
