Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Season one focused on the pregnancy of Amy Juergens. Who fathered Amy's baby?

Answer: Ricky Underwood

Amy met Ricky during summer band camp. Ricky made many claims that he never planned to have sex with Amy at the time, but his actions seemed to negate that claim. Daren Kagasoff played Ricky and Shailene Woodley played Amy. In 2011, Shailene received Oscar buzz about her performance alongside George Clooney in "The Descendents".
2. Who played the ever mischievous Tom Bowman?

Answer: Luke Zimmerman

Luke was born in 1980 and lived with Down Syndrome. His portrayal of Grace Bowman's adopted older brother has been comical, serious, intense and that of a classic scene stealer. In season three, he decided he wanted to marry Adrian Lee, which led him to move out of the main house and into the guest house.

He was followed there quickly by Jack Pappas, who needed a place to live during the summer and his senior year of high school. Chris Burke is the actor who played Corky Thacher on "Life Goes On". All of the choices listed are actors who live with Down Syndrome.
3. Whose father died at the end of season one?

Answer: Grace Bowman's

Grace's father, Marshall Bowman, died in a plane crash. Grace initially believed he was killed because she had sex with her boyfriend, Jack. Grace spent a few episodes circling the drain of guilt before she realized that her actions would not have killed everyone on that plane.

Her mother later married the brother of the pilot of the plane. Jack, Madison and Ben had all lost a parent prior to the show's premier. John Schneider played Marshall Bowman in eighteen episodes.
4. When Leo Boykewich proposed to Betty, did he know that she had been a prostitute for a while?

Answer: Yes

Betty had been first introduced as an escort that Tom Bowman had hired. She and Tom were never intimate, and afterward they remained friendly. Ben was not fond of Betty's presence in his father's life, nor his own, and finally admitted to his father that he knew Betty used to be a prostitute. Leo told Ben that he knew all about Betty's past and did not hold it against her. Jennifer Coolidge played Betty. Jennifer was also in the movies "American Pie (1 and 2)", "Legally Blonde (1 and 2)", and reprised her role as Stifler's Mom in "American Reunion", which was set for release in 2012.
5. What did Anne and George Juergens name their baby boy?

Answer: Robert

George delivered Robbie when Anne went into labor at home. They called 9-1-1, but the ambulance was delayed because their dog, Moose, had called it so many times before for no reason. It was George's idea for the baby to be named after Anne's father Robert, and they called him Robbie for short. Anne and George were divorced at the time of Robbie's birth, but almost remarried in season three. Anne was played by former teen actress Molly Ringwald and George was played by Mark Derwin.
6. Which was of these people was the last to find out that Ben and Adrian were expecting a baby?

Answer: Amy Juergens

Adrian had sex with Ben one night while Ben was parked in his car outside of Amy's house. Adrian was feeling jealous of Amy and Ricky, and so was Ben. Adrian realized she was pregnant a few weeks later during a conversation she was having with Amy's sister Ashley. Ashley wanted to go on birth control pills, as she was falling for Ricky, and she consulted with Adrian. Adrian explained that it would take about a month before the pill was fully effective, and it dawned on her in that moment that she was late for her period.

She believed initially that it was due to being placed on a new prescription, but in tandem with that thought came the remembrance that the condom had broken during her interlude with Ben in his car. She told Ben she was pregnant, planned to have an abortion, and then changed her mind. Amy was in New York at a music program for teen moms, so she did not find out until Ben came there to tell her.

She ended their relationship and did not speak to anyone for over a week. In the end, she called Adrian first and offered her support and friendship.
7. When Ashley started high school all of these choices were true except which one?

Answer: She was having a secret romance with Jack Pappas

All of the teens on this series switched relationships around like they were sharing a cola. Their parents, while most were good people, were awful parents in my opinion. I was always shocked that ABC Family promoted this series as such ground breaking goodness, when the parents for most of these kids were appalling 90% of the time. Ashley and Adrian were my favorite characters, though I started losing that feeling about Ashley as she fell for Ricky in season three.

She found a great friend in Griffin, her openly gay friend.

They made a pact to not date in high school, but that quickly began to fade away as the year moved forward. He introduced her to his cousin Grant, who Ashley toyed with briefly before falling for Ricky. Brandon Eaton played Griffin.

He also played the son of the Trinity Killer on "Dexter". Grant was played by actor Grant Harvey.
8. Where did Ben propose to Adrian in the episode "Guess Who's Not Coming to Dinner"?

Answer: Poppie's Tacos

Ben sought permission from his father and Adrian's parents before popping the question. Leo wanted Ben to agree to wait a year before actually getting married, but Ben was anxious to do it right away. Adrian's dad was happy to hear that they may be married before their baby girl was born, but her mom was not as joyful at the idea. So, Ben arranged to ask permission from her parents while Adrian herself was on her way to the restaurant to meet him.

After he told he he loved her, he asked if she would marry him and she immediately said "yes".
9. Who paid for the condo that Adrian and Ben moved into after they married?

Answer: Leo

Leo agreed to buy the teens a condo instead of paying for a big wedding. Ben and Adrian agreed to those terms, but Ben dragged his heels on picking the condo. They finally settled on one, but did not actually move into it until their wedding night. They were married at Adrian's house, with only Adrian's parents, Leo and his secretary Camille as witnesses. Jack's step-dad served as their minister.
10. In the third season finale, "...Or Not to Be", Adrian and Ben's baby girl passed away.

Answer: True

As an experienced watcher of serialized TV, I found that there was much foreshadowing about the death of their baby. I was sure a tragedy was in the works when Ben proposed to Adrian and in many episodes that followed. The foreshadowing was subtle, but I continuously picked up on it as I watched.

In the third season finale, Adrian lost movement of the baby not long after seeing her doctor. She was too inexperienced to realize anything may truly be wrong, and was admitted the hospital the next day.

She only took one phone call while she was there, and it was from Tom Bowman. All she told him was that she couldn't talk and was in the hospital. That inspired a string of text messages that brought an entire crowd of excited friends to the hospital only to discover the heartbreaking news that the baby had died in utero (in the womb). Sarah Mclachlan sang a wrenching melody in the background as everyone cried over the loss of the baby.

Her songs were also played in the same fashion over two "Buffy" season finales. One was to inspire grief and the other to inspire hope.
