Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Catherine of Aragon: "While my husband lives, I am his ______. His own true ______."

Answer: Wife

Catherine of Aragon maintained until she died she was Henry's wife and their child as the legal heir to the throne. No amount of force from anyone would force her to think otherwise. In fact her last letter to Henry was desiring only him.
2. Anne Boleyn: "I would like to confess to ______. He shall bear that burden. He shall know my innocence."

Answer: Cranmer

Anne was in The Tower of London for her trial maintaining her innocence all the way. Henry VIII wanted a divorce from Anne before her execution no matter what. So Thomas Cromwell told Archbishop Cranmer to offer anything to her (like freedom) to get a confession out of her. Cranmer didn't want to violate the confessional but did as he was told.
3. Jane Seymour: "I beg you, sir, by the deep love I bear you, I beg you to restore the ______. This can only be God's judgment for putting them down!"

Answer: Abbeys

Henry: "God and my conscience are on perfectly good terms, madam. And unless you wish to follow Mistress Boleyn's end, you will not meddle in my affairs!"
Jane was referring to Robert Aske's rebellion after Henry authorized the dissolution of the abbeys and monasteries.
4. Anne of Cleves: "I could call myself Your Majesty's most loyal and obedient ______."

Answer: Sister

After agreeing on an annulment Henry gave her a generous income plus the homes of Richmond Palace and Hever Castle. She called herself "the King's sister" and they became good friends.
5. Catherine Howard: "____________'s husband spent the night in prayer."

Answer: Lady Rochford

Henry: "Had I been Lady Rochford's husband I would have done the same."
Henry VIII and Catherine Howard were celebrating their first night as man and wife when Catherine told him of Lady Rochford's husband spending their first night in prayer.
Viscount Rochford George Boleyn, brother of Anne Boleyn and was arranged to marry Jane Parker. The story goes he most definitely didn't want to but he had no other choice as his sister Mary Anne was mistress of the King. After her wedding Jane Parker Boleyn became known as Lady Rochford and it is also said she spilled the beans of Anne's "affairs".
6. Catherine Parr: "My lord, I do not see your ______ in court."

Answer: Children

Henry: "I'll bring them back Kate if you mother them."
Catherine: "Sire?"
Henry had Cranmer and Bishop Winchester to prepare Catherine Parr for what he was about to ask of her. She was a wealthy widow twice over and a successful mother to stepchildren from her first two marriages. Catherine was in love with Jane Seymour's brother Thomas but when the King asked for her hand she had to accept Henry.
7. Catherine of Aragon: "I would rather die than go back to ______ unmarried. I would rather die."

Answer: Spain

Catherine's first husband Prince Arthur of Wales died leaving her without a child and a widow. Both King Henry VII of England and King Ferdinand of Spain were stingy with their wallets leaving her with the only other possible option: return home. The big offer was to have Catherine and the future Henry VIII to marry.

But as luck would have it Henry VII died making his second son Henry VIII and they were married within weeks of his ascension.
8. Lady Boleyn: "The King will remember what you are to him." Anne Boleyn: "They're not building that ______ for nothing."

Answer: Scaffold

Lady Boleyn: "I'm sure he will remember."
Anne was in the Tower awaiting her fate as she was guilty according to the courts. All that was needed was for the scaffold to be completed and a swordsman to dispatch the ex-queen.
9. Henry VIII: "I promise you that no one will be unkind to you again. Word of a ______."

Answer: King

Catherine: "I would rather have a word of a Henry."
Henry: "Word of a Henry then."
Henry VII had died and a newly proclaimed Henry VIII told Catherine of Aragon that his father's dying wish was for them to marry. As loving newlyweds on their honeymoon Catherine was very much in love with Henry.
10. Thomas Cromwell: "Already spoken for by your ______, sir."

Answer: Nephew James

Henry: "Does that matter?"
At this point Queen Jane Seymour hadn't even been buried yet but Cromwell was already planning on Henry VIII's next wedding. Many on Council thought it was too soon since the queen's death to think of such a wedding. The nephew James is speaking of King James V of Scotland son of his sister Margaret.
