Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who plays Geoffrey Tennant?

Answer: Paul Gross

You may know Paul Gross as Constable Benton Fraser in 'Due South' and from 'Men with Brooms'. Geoffrey has come back to the theater after being institutionalized for seven years.
2. Geoffrey Tennant becomes the new artistic director of New Burbage Theater. Who was the old director?

Answer: Oliver Welles

After his death, Oliver begins to haunt Geoffrey. Although he's a nuisance, he helped Geoffrey put on fantastic plays ('Hamlet', 'Macbeth' and 'King Lear').
3. In the first season, we find Kate McNab playing Ophelia in 'Hamlet'. Who plays Kate?

Answer: Rachel McAdams

At the beginning of the second season, Kate leaves the New Burbage theater and heads to the States with her new fiancé, Jack.
4. Season 2. 'Macbeth'. How Geoffrey hated that play. The cast wanted to put on 'Macbeth' in the memory of Oliver Welles. Who did Oliver want (and got) cast as Macbeth?

Answer: Henry Breedlove

He never agreed with Geoffrey's ideas, i.e. when Lady Macbeth helps Macbeth take off his clothes after the war, that he should be completely nude, so that the audience could see that he is just a common man.
5. Richard Smith-Jones is the festival's general manager. Who is he played by?

Answer: Mark McKinney

This 'Kids in the Hall' member is also one of the show's writers.
6. In the second season, Richard wants the theater to be more engaging to a younger audience. Who does he get to make this happen?

Answer: Sanjay Rainier from Frog Hammer

Sanjay, played by Colm Feore, is outrageous. Sanjay's unusual plan of criticizing the theater for attracting the elderly, worked. New Burbage was packed with a younger audience on the opening of 'MacBeth'.
7. Ellen Fenshaw, Geoffrey's on-and-off girlfriend, is being audited. Her sister, whom she hasn't spoken to in a long time, is married to an accountant. Ellen calls her sister for help. What happens?

Answer: Ellen sleeps with her brother-in-law.

Ellen, played by Martha Burns, and her brother-in-law were in a 'heated' argument about a pricy bra being written off as a job necessity, when it got 'too hot'. Martha Burns is Paul Gross' wife, and even showed up in an episode of 'Due South'.
8. In season three, we meet Charles Kingsman. He's played King Lear many times, and was forced out of retirement by Geoffrey. During rehearsals, Charles would often criticise the other characters, or forget his lines. What helped him concentrate?

Answer: A shot of heroin

During one of the rehearsals, Geoffrey realizes that Charles needed a shot to stay focused, as he had done so the night before to help Charles sleep through the night. When Charles returned to rehearsal, he was able to finish 'King Lear' flawlessly with ten minutes left.
9. In the last episode, Charles Kingsman finally got to play King Lear to an audience. Where had they managed to have the production after being fired from New Burbage theater?

Answer: Church community center

Geoffrey managed to get the church since he's good friends with the minister. The audience loved the play, despite the small setting and Geoffrey replacing Jerry's role and forgetting nearly all the lines. But Oliver was there to save his day.
10. King Lear, Charles' character, dies of a broken heart after he finds his daughter dead. What happened when Geoffrey went to help Charles off the floor after his character's death?

Answer: Charles wouldn't wake up.

After a few uneasy moments, Charles opens his eyes and comments on how well the play went. Scary moment. In this finale episode, Anna is fired from the New Burbage theater after Richard's ego is overinflated by the successful musical 'East Hastings'. Geoffrey says goodbye to Oliver as he crosses over, and marries Ellen.
