It has been the number one rated soap for more than twelve consecutive years. Set in the fictional city of Genoa City, Wisconsin, the main families are the Newman family, the Abbott family and the Winters family.

"Y&R" became a one hour show in January 1980. It had originally been a 30 minute show.

The theme song was written by Barry DeVorzon and Perry Botkin, and originally entitled "Cotton's Theme" from the film "Bless the Beasts", but later became known as "Nadia's Theme".

On January 5, 1970, ABC premiered "All My Children." This show is famous for dealing with socially relevant issues of the times, such as abortion, drug use, the Vietnam War, homosexuality and rape.

"As the World Turns" premiered on April 2, 1956. Many of the early story lines centered around the Hughes family. The only soap on the air that has been on longer than "As the World Turns" is "Guiding Light." "As the World Turns" has been on TV for more than 50 years.
