Something that makes "OLTL" one of my favorite soaps, is that it is the first to feature some of the biggest issues facing society, such as drug addiction in 1970 and 1995, child pornography in 1978, prostitution in 1979, homophobia and AIDS in 1992, rape in 1993 and gang violence in 1995.
3. My friend left me a note saying I should watch a soap opera that she had seen the night before, but she couldn't remember the exact name. She called it "The Strong and the Pretty." Which soap opera did she mean?

Answer: The Bold and the Beautiful

Created by the same family who created "The Young and the Restless," "The Bold and the Beautiful" premiered in March 1987. The story is set in Beverly Hills, California. The head family is the Forresters. They own a fashion house called Forrester Creations.
4. Someone who was trying to confuse me called one popular soap opera "The Youthful and the Active." Which soap were they referring to?

Answer: The Young and the Restless

"The Young and the Restless" premiered in 1973. One reason it is my very favorite soap is because it features strong characters, socially relevant storylines and romance. It has been the number one rated soap for more than twelve consecutive years. Set in the fictional city of Genoa City, Wisconsin, the main families are the Newman family, the Abbott family and the Winters family.

"Y&R" became a one hour show in January 1980. It had originally been a 30 minute show.

The theme song was written by Barry DeVorzon and Perry Botkin, and originally entitled "Cotton's Theme" from the film "Bless the Beasts", but later became known as "Nadia's Theme".
5. My sister likes word-play, especially with tv show titles. Which soap opera does she call "The Total Amount of my Offspring"?

Answer: All My Children

On January 5, 1970, ABC premiered "All My Children." This show is famous for dealing with socially relevant issues of the times, such as abortion, drug use, the Vietnam War, homosexuality and rape.
6. I'm having visions of a show called "During the Time the Globe Spins." What soap opera am I visioning?

Answer: As the World Turns

"As the World Turns" premiered on April 2, 1956. Many of the early story lines centered around the Hughes family. The only soap on the air that has been on longer than "As the World Turns" is "Guiding Light." "As the World Turns" has been on TV for more than 50 years.
7. While I was playing around and renaming shows, which soap opera did I rename "The Light That Shows the Way"?

Answer: The Guiding Light

This show began on radio in 1937 and moved to tv in 1952. Other soaps lived in a fantasy world, but "GL" told stories that were centered in everyday life. Some famous actors and actresses such as Kevin Bacon, James Earl Jones, Wendy Moniz and Calista Flockhart have starred on "GL."
8. If I were to rename all of the soap operas, which soap opera would I rename "Alternate Globe"?

Answer: Another World

"Another World" premiered on May 5, 1964 and came to an end June 25, 1999.

"Another World" was the first soap to expand to an hour (then 90 minutes from March 1979-August 1980).
9. On which show did the character Erica Kane debut in 1970, which could be also known as "The Lot of My Offspring"?

Answer: All My Children

Susan Lucci played Erica since the debut of "AMC." At the beginning of 2007, she was one of only two cast members still remaining from the debut. The other is Ray MacDonnell, who plays Dr. Joe Martin.
10. Which of these shows is a spin-off of "General Hospital"?

Answer: Port Charles

"Port Charles" premiered in 1997 and ended in 2003. It took place in the same fictional city as "General Hospital," and several characters appeared on both shows.
