Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first time the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 was shown, what part of the ship did the camera "dissolve" into?

Answer: The Bridge

This was during the original pilot, "The Cage." That episode was later reused for the two-parter "The Menagerie, Parts 1 & 2," during which Spock tried to send the previous captain - Christopher Pike - back to Talos IV and an illusion of strength (and...back to Vina!).
2. The last time we see the Enterprise-1701 (in "Star Trek 3: The Search For Spock"), what has happened to it?

Answer: The "Autodestruct Sequence" blew it up

Kirk, Scotty and Chekov set the Autodestruct Sequence so that Kruge's men couldn't get control of the ship. Kirk and company later stole Kruge's Bird-Of-Prey to escape the Genesis planet.
3. What ship blocked the view before we saw the new USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-A, for the first time?

Answer: The Excelsior

This was at the end of "Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home." Sulu was counting on being posted on the Excelsior. He eventually became captain of that ship, and helped Kirk stop an assassination attempt in "Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country."
4. The last time we saw the original crew together on the Enterprise NCC-1701-A was at the end of "Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country." When the order came through for the ship to be decommissioned, what did Spock recommend as a reply?

Answer: "Go to hell."

The actual quote was: "If I were human, I believe my response would be: 'Go to hell.'...If I were human." The last time we saw the ship, it flew into the sunset as Kirk gave his final log entry. This was the "first" time the word "man" was replaced by the word "one" in the famous quote "To boldly go where no man has gone before."
5. The first time we saw a room on the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D (During "Encounter At Farpoint"), which room was it?

Answer: The Observation Lounge

The first time we saw a room on the ship, Captain Picard makes a captain's log and walks out of the shadows in the Observation Lounge. The first exterior shot of the ship opened "Star Trek: The Next Generation" for the first time, as the Enterprise drifted downwards.
6. The last time the Enterprise-D was shown on the series ("Star Trek: The Next Generation"), what was it flying towards?

Answer: A nebula

The effect started out with the final poker game in Riker's quarters, in which Picard joined his senior staff for the first time. A camera shot moved upwards and in a spiral, out of the room, and dissolved through the top of the ship and into the exterior shot. As Picard would say, "The sky's the limit."
7. Which of the following features was NOT seen inside the refitted Enterprise-D before its destruction in "Star Trek: Generations"?

Answer: A new Observation Lounge

The Observation Lounge was not even seen during this movie. Besides the changes above, the inside of the ship also had much darker lighting.
8. When we first saw the Enterprise-E (In "Star Trek: First Contact"), how long had it been out in space?

Answer: Nearly a year

Geordi reminded Captain Picard that the ship had been out this long, and that it didn't need more shakedown time if it was to face the Borg. The real reason Starfleet Command didn't want the ship in the battle was because they didn't fully trust the captain to face the Borg again.
9. In its first battle since Starfleet took over, how many photon torpedoes did Deep Space Nine have?

Answer: Six

Major Kira ordered a warning shot of six torpedoes be fired towards Gul Jasad's vessel in the pilot episode, "Emissary." Chief O'Brien protested, but the major told him the battle wouldn't be won with just torpedoes. Later in the series, the station was finally fitted with it's full compliment of weapons - including 5,000 photon torpedoes.
10. The last time Deep Space Nine was shown was during a beautiful pull-back shot. During this shot, which two characters were looking out of the promenade window?

Answer: Jake and Kira

This was important, since Jake's father, Captain Benjamin Lafayette Sisko, had gone to live with the prophets in the wormhole. The prophets, who were non-linear aliens, were worshipped by the Bajorans as gods. Ben Sisko was often uncomfortable with being their emissary, but the discovery that his mother was a prophet helped ease his mind.
11. What new Federation-adapted technology (used on a regular basis) was NOT seen for the first time on the new USS Defiant, NX-74205?

Answer: Gyro shielding

The only ship that we have heard to have this type of shielding was the USS Melinchay, commanded by Captain Sanders during "For The Uniform," the episode in which Captain Sisko finally captured the Maquis spy and former Starfleet security officer, Michael Eddington.
12. The first time we saw the USS Voyager NCC-74656, where was the ship?

Answer: Docked at Deep Space Nine

The first time we saw the ship in an exterior shot, Tom Paris was heading for it in a shuttlecraft. Among the crew on DS9 was Ensign Harry Kim, who was about to be swindled by Quark before Tom saved him.
13. When the USS Voyager finally reached Earth form the Delta Quadrant, what method of travel got them there?

Answer: A Borg transwarp conduit

This was during the final episode, "Endgame." The Borg were finally defeated in this episode, thanks to an alternate-future Admiral Janeway.
14. The first time we saw the Enterprise NX-01, who scratched her paint?

Answer: Commander Tucker

This was during a tour of the ship's exterior in a shuttlepod, during the pilot episode, "Broken Bow."
15. Before being decommissioned, the Enterprise NX-01 visited what kind of outpost to rescue Shran's daughter?

Answer: Rigellian

Archer owed Shran the favor after Shran helped to save Earth from the Xindi in "Zero Hour," nearly 6 years earlier.
