Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 425 Grove Street, Apartment 20
Answer: Friends
This was Monica Geller's address in New York, NY. Originally, she shared the apartment with Phoebe, then Rachel, then Chandler, as the series evolved. Unlike "Seinfeld", which was about "nothing", "Friends" was about six friends who lived in the city, and hung out at a coffee shop called Central Perk, where they discussed their lives and loves.
The show aired from 1994 to 2004. BTW, there really is a Central Perk, but it's located in Cedarhurst, New York.
2. 1020 Palm Drive
Answer: I Dream of Jeannie
Astronaut Tony Nelson's address was 1020 Palm Drive in Cocoa Beach, Florida on the sitcom "I Dream of Jeannie" (1965-1970). Captain Nelson worked at Cape Canaveral and, while on a mission, he discovered a strange bottle on a deserted island. The bottle was inhabited by a genie named, of course, Jeannie. Tony took her back to his house, where her magic got Tony into all kinds of trouble (think "Topper" or "Bewitched", if you are old enough). SPOILER ALERT - Tony becomes a major, while Jeannie becomes Mrs. Nelson.
3. 129 West 81st Street, Apt 5A
Answer: Seinfeld
Speaking of "Seinfeld", Jerry Seinfeld's address was 129 West 81st Street in New York, NY, right across the hall from Kramer. While the show claimed to be about "nothing", it featured four companions and their trials (literally) and tribulations, as upscale, self-involved New Yorkers.
The show ran from 1989 to 1998 but, unlike the show "Friends", in all those years, these characters never seem to have evolved.
4. 124 Conch Street
Answer: SpongeBob Squarepants
On to animation..."Are you ready?" "SpongeBob Squarepants" is a very upbeat sponge who "lives in a pineapple under the sea". His address is 124 Conch Street in Bikini Bottom. His house (a pineapple) is situated between Squidward Tentacles' Easter Island head and Patrick Star's rock. SpongeBob works at the Krusty Krab restaurant, and has a pet snail named Gary. He is voiced by Tom Kenny, and the show was created by former marine biology teacher, Stephen Hillenburg.
5. 4355 Wisteria Lane
Answer: Desperate Housewives
The ladies of "Desperate Housewives" (2004-2012) all live on Wisteria Lane, in the fictional suburb of Fairview, no state was mentioned. 4355 Wisteria Lane is the address of the Scavo family which includes Lynette (Felicity Huffman), her traveling husband Tom, her sons (with ADHD) and her baby daughter. Lynette had been an ambitious, high-powered ad executive who had difficulty adjusting to all the demands of motherhood.
6. 9764 Jeopardy Lane
Answer: Married with Children
9764 Jeopardy Lane, Chicago, Illinois is the home of the extremely dysfunctional Bundy family which includes shoe salesman Al, his stay-at-home wife Peggy, their outcast son Bud and dumb daughter, Kelly...oh, yeah and Buck the dog. Ed O'Neill ("Modern Family") played the miserable Al, while Katey Sagal ("Sons of Anarchy") played the ever-complaining Peg.
The show aired form 1987 to 1997, which is a long time to be living in despair!
7. 112 1/2 Beacon Street
Answer: Cheers
If you are ever in Boston, Massachusetts, you might want to visit 112 1/2 Beacon Street, which was home to the bar called "Cheers". ("Sorry, we're closed"). Cheers is located right below Melville's Fine Seafood. The bar was owned by former Red Sox pitcher Sam Malone, played by Ted Danson.
It was filled with odd employees and patrons, e.g., Carla the waitress, Woody the bartender, Cliff the postman and Norm ("Norm"!). Did you know that the real life bar is actually on 84 Beacon Street?
8. 623 East 68th Street
Answer: I Love Lucy
Another Manhattan resident was Lucy Ricardo who lived with her bandleader husband Ricky (and, later, little Ricky) at 623 East 68th Street, New York, NY. The Ricardos were best friends with their landlords, Ethel and Fred Mertz. The show ran from 1951 to 1957, with Lucy engaging in all kinds of stunts to get into show business.
In real life, East 68th Street only goes up to the number '600', so their apartment would be in the middle of the East River.
9. 31 Spooner Street
Answer: Family Guy
Peter Griffin and his family live on Spooner Street in Quahog, Rhode Island. The family consists of Peter, his wife Lois, their daughter Meg, sons Chris and Stewie, and their talking dog, Brian. The Griffins live right next to their neighbors, Glenn ("giggity") Quagmire, Cleveland Brown (who had his own series, but it was cancelled), and Joe Swanson, a cop injured on the job. "Family Guy" is an animated show created by Seth MacFarlane.
10. 1882 Gerard Street
Answer: Full House
1882 Girard Street, San Francisco, California, is the address of the extended Tanner family, i.e., Danny Tanner and the girls, D.J., Stephanie and Michelle, along with Danny's brother-in-law, Jesse, and their comedian friend Joey. No wonder they called the show "Full House" (1987-1995).
This is the show that helped make billionaires out of the Olsen twins who alternated playing the youngest Tanner, Michelle.
11. 15 Robin Hood Lane
Answer: Growing Pains
I thought this was a tough one. Fifteen Robin Hood Lane, Massapequa, Long Island was the address of psychiatrist Dr. Jason Seaver (Alan Thicke), his journalist wife Maggie, and their kids, i.e., Mike, Carol and Ben, on "Growing Pains" (1985-1992). This was a more upscale, educated family than is often depicted in sitcoms, and their problems seemed more realistic and down-to-earth than the usual "wacky" TV families.
12. 84 Rainey Street
Answer: King of the Hill
We now move on to 84 Rainey Street in Arlen, Texas. This is the home of propane salesman Hank Hill, his wife Peggy, their son Bobby and their nice Luanne. "King of the Hill" (1997-2010) is the creation of Mike Judge of "Beavis and Butthead" fame. Mike also does the voice of Hank, who is portrayed as an honest, hard-working man with deeply ingrained American values.
He loves his job, his family, his lawn and the Dallas Cowboys, but not necessarily in that order.
13. 518 Crestview Drive
Answer: The Beverly Hillbillies
After discovering "black gold" ("Texas tea") on their land, the Clampetts "loaded up their truck and moved to Beverly...Hills, that is". As the song goes, the Clampetts struck oil on their property in Kimberling City, Missouri, and moved to 518 Crestview Drive, Beverly Hills, California, right next door to their new banker, Milburn Drysdale.
Them Clampetts sure did show them city-slickers a thing or two. "The Beverly Hillbillies" aired from 1962 to 1971, and rose to number one in the ratings within the first three weeks of its debut.
14. 245 East 73rd Street
Answer: Sex and the City
245 East 73rd Street, New York, NY, is the Manhattan address of journalist Carrie Bradshaw on "Sex and the City". The show featured the lives and loves of four upscale Manhattan women, i.e., Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda who, when they weren't out "dating", were out buying Manolo Blahniks and drinking Cosmos (not Kramer).
The show ran from 1998 to 2004, and was so successful that they, subsequently, turned it into two movies.
15. 565 North Clinton Drive
Answer: Happy Days
"Hello, Wisconsin" - oops, wrong show! This show, "Happy Days", was set in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 565 North Clinton Drive is the address of the Cunninghams, i.e., Howard, Marion, Richie, Joanie (and, originally, Chuck). Their garage was home to "the Fonz", Arthur Fonzarelli (played with conviction by Henry Winkler), who was the coolest character on TV at the time. Although it was set in the 1950s, Gary Marshall's creation aired from 1974 to 1984.
