Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Peter Marshall, he took the job as host of "The Hollywood Squares" to prevent which man from getting it?

Answer: Dan Rowan

In his book, "Backstage With The Original Hollywood Square" (co-authored with Adrienne Armstrong), Marshall explains that he took the job simply to keep Dan Rowan, who would go on to co-host "Laugh-In" with Dick Martin, from getting it. Rowan refused to visit a mutual friend who had become terminally ill, turning Marshall against him. Turned out to be a great career move for Marshall, who hosted the show for 16 years.
2. In which Western state was the CBS drama "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" set?

Answer: Colorado

A staple on CBS's Saturday-night lineup for five seasons (1993-98), "Dr. Quinn" featured Jane Seymour as Dr. Michaela Quinn, a physician who moves from Boston to Colorado Springs after her father, also a doctor, dies.
3. The Fox legal drama "Girls Club", created and produced by David E. Kelley, ran for only two episodes in 2002.

Answer: True

"Girls Club" focused on three young law-school graduates trying to make their mark on a San Francisco law firm. Gretchen Mol, Kathleen Robertson and Chyler Leigh starred. Kelley couldn't translate his tremendous success with his other legal shows, "Ally McBeal" and "The Practice", to "Girls Club", which disappeared after only two episodes.
4. On the ABC sitcom "Coach", Hayden Fox (Craig T. Nelson) ends up leaving Minnesota State University to coach which fictional pro football team?

Answer: Orlando Breakers

After turning the Screaming Eagles of Minnesota State into a national powerhouse, Hayden finally gets his shot at the big time, moving his wife, Christine (Shelley Fabares), and his faithful assistants, Luther (Jerry Van Dyke) and Dauber (Bill Fagerbakke), in the process.
5. Which actress provides the voice for Bunny Bravo, the loving mother of the romantically-challenged Johnny Bravo, on the Cartoon Network series?

Answer: Brenda Vaccaro

Before taking on the role of Bunny Bravo, Vaccaro had done voice work on other cartoons, including "The Smurfs", "Captain Planet and the Planeteers", and the TV movie "The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones". In 2003, she lent her voice talents to the direct-to-video sequel to the classic story "Charlotte's Web". (Thanks to the Internet Movie Database for additional information.)
6. Which of the following motion pictures was NOT adapted as a regular TV series, live action or animated, during the 1980s?

Answer: "RoboCop"

A classic sci-fi drama released in the US in 1987, "RoboCop" didn't become a small-screen draw until 1994, when it was released in syndication. Richard Eden played the role of policeman Alex Murphy, who donned the trademark crime-fighting armor, in the series.

The movie also spawned two animated series in syndication--"RoboCop: The Animated Series" (1994) and "RoboCop: Alpha Commando" (1998). "The Dirty Dozen", based on the 1967 movie, appeared on Fox's lineup from April through July of 1988; "Stir Crazy", based on the 1980 movie, appeared on CBS's lineup from September 1985 through January 1986. DIC Entertainment's adaptation the Columbia Pictures smash hit "Ghostbusters", in 1988, ran into some problems when Filmation decided to release a cartoon based on a live-action show, "The Ghost Busters", that they had produced in the 1970s. To keep everyone from being confused, DIC called their version "The Real Ghostbusters", which later became "Slimer! and the Real Ghostbusters". (Thanks to the Internet Movie Database, the Big Cartoon Database, and "The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows 1946-Present" (by Tim Brooks and Earle Marsh) for additional information.)
7. How many times did John Larroquette win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, playing the role of Dan Fielding on "Night Court"?

Answer: 4

Like other stars before him, Larroquette reaped the benefits of familiarity when it came to awards time--a consistent knock against the television academies, in particular--capturing the award four consecutive years (1984-85 through 1987-88). After the fourth award, Larroquette specifically asked the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the body responsible for the Primetime Emmy Awards, to withdraw his name from consideration for the same award the next year.
8. On "WKRP in Cincinnati", how did nerdy newsman Les Nessman sign off his daily radio reports?

Answer: "So long, and may the good news be yours."

Though "WKRP" only ran for four years on CBS, virtually everyone associated with it went on to enjoy some sort of success afterward.
9. During the main game on the NBC game show "Scrabble", how much money could a player win for landing a letter on a pink tile?

Answer: $1,000

Based on the popular board game, "Scrabble" enjoyed a five-year run on NBC (1984-89), then was brought back for a brief run in 1992 in tandem with "Scattergories", which was hosted by Dick Clark. Chuck Woolery hosted both incarnations.
10. Which veteran play-by-play man was on the microphone for CBS Sports when the NC State Wolfpack stunned the Houston Cougars in the 1983 NCAA Men's Final Four?

Answer: Gary Bender

A native of Ulysses, Kansas, Gary Bender called a number of big sporting events for CBS, ABC, and TNT, and has worked with a number of analysts, including John Madden, Doug Collins, Billy Packer and Pat Haden. After TNT lost the Sunday-night NFL contract, Bender became the television play-by-play man for the Phoenix Suns on their cable-TV broadcasts.
