Answer: "Bad Boys" by April Wine

"Bad Boys" provided the background for a recap of season 11, including the attacks by the Darkness, the scenes in Hell, numerous monster kills by the brothers, and culminating in scenes of Sam being shot, the light returning, and Dean encountering his long-dead mother, looking very much alive.

After the British Men of Letters woman shot him, kidnapped him, and chained him to a chair, Sam was not fooled by her questions, and made it clear he was not afraid of the torture she and her colleague threatened. Sam said, "You can ask me any kind of question you want, but the answer is going to be the exact same - Screw You. You want to get mad? You wanna get mean? I've been tortured by the Devil himself! So you - you're just an accent in a pantsuit. What can you do to me?"

Answer: Cutting off his finger

In addition to the cold shower, the drug, and the blow torch, they also used a cattle prod on Sam. He never broke, and never revealed the names or locations of other hunters. Cutting off a finger was a torture used once on "Supernatural." It was used by Crowley on Kevin in season 8's "A Little Slice of Kevin."

After being reunited with his mother after 33 years, Dean took time to explain some of what had happened after her death, including John raising her boys as hunters and giving himself up to save Dean. He then brought her back to the bunker, where he found the sigil and blood. Cas then made his way back to the bunker, and the three hit the road to rescue Sam.

Answer: "Solitude" by Black Sabbath

"Solitude" provided a haunting backdrop as Dean, Mary and Cas drove off after killing one of Sam's kidnappers. The music felt more poignant as the final scene was revealed to be a tortured and exhausted Sam, finally passing out in his prison. Each of the other songs was in a season 10 episode. "Travelin' Man" was in "Ask Jeeves," "Ashes, the Rain and I" was in "About a Boy," and "Behind Blue Eyes" was in "Book of the Damned."

This conversation happened as mother and son headed for Missouri to rescue Sam. Mary did not understand why Sam came back to hunting after getting out. Dean did not say directly that his brother came back for him, but answered her this way. Later in the episode, after he had been rescued, Sam explained to his mother that, "This is my family. My family hunts, you know? It's what we do."

Crowley asked, "What's the bloody hold up? He's the one and only Satan in the phone book!" This was Rowena's response. She did not want to get dragged into her son's battle with Lucifer, but he threatened to ruin her plan to bag a rich husband unless she helped him with Lucifer. Unfortunately for Rowena, she was unable to control Lucifer, so after Crowley fled, she became the Devil's prisoner.

Dean's "Angry Spice" was a reference to the British girl band, "The Spice Girls." The band members all had "Spice" nicknames: Scary Spice, Sporty Spice, Baby Spice, Ginger Spice, and Posh Spice.

At the beginning of the episode, Mary ate bacon that was cold. When Sam offered to fry up some, since that was cold, she said, "it's bacon." Dean followed with, "we are so related." Later, she agreed with him about the jerky, and blasted the radio, after Sam was about to make his brother lower the volume for her.

While Mary may have liked whisky, that was not one of the things they shared in "The Foundry."

Cas and Crowley used those aliases when they went to interview Vince's sister, on their search for Lucifer. In the same episode, Mary and the brothers worked a case, using the aliases Shirley Partridge, Agent Bonaduce, and Agent Cassidy.

Mary explained that she missed John and her sons - from when they were six months and four years old. She said "Every moment I spend with you reminds me of every moment I lost with them." She then said she had to go. She apologized, took the journal, told them she loved them, and left.

Much had been made during the series of John abandoning his sons, and the theme of absent fathers (including God), and now the brothers were faced with their mother abandoning them, too.

After a woman appeared the be whipped and a victim of stigmata by an invisible assailant in front of witnesses, the brothers began working the case. A second person was killed the same way, too. Sam thought it was the ghost of a girl who died because her parents refused treatment. Dean thought it was a witch, since the first victim's job went to a Wiccan.

It turned out that it was a psychic girl, who had been tortured for years by her parents who believed her to be possessed by the Devil. The girl was just trying to get help, but her abilities caused the people to be killed.

Answer: I'm a thirteen year old girl.

Dean sent Mary a text which said, "Hi mom, just checking in. Is MOM still okay or weird? Should I call you Mary?" He then called himself a thirteen year old girl for staring at the phone, waiting for a response. Mary replied at the end of the episode, explaining that her phone had died and needed to be recharged, and reassuring her son that she will "always be MOM." She followed up with, "Tell Sam I love you boys."

Answer: She tried to kill her whole family

Magda's parents believed that her psychic abilities made her evil - that the Devil was in her. They tortured her for years. Sam realized what they had done. He was very gentle, speaking to the girl, explaining she was just psychic, that he had been psychic too, and that she could control the power.

He tried to reason with the family, but the family would not listen, and Magda's mother realized that others would come looking for Sam and discover her daughter. So, she put poison in the dinner and fed it to the family.

Her husband ate a bite first and died. Sam realized what she had done, and tried to stop her son from eating. The mother tried to force him, and Magda helped her brother. Her mother then tried to kill Magda, but killed her son instead. Magda then stopped her mother from killing her too, and with Sam's encouragement, stopped short of killing her mother.

The girl was on her way to California to live with her aunt. The bus stopped, and the girl was shot and killed in the ladies' room. The man who killed her had been following Sam and Dean. His motorcycle was seen in "The Foundry" and again following the brothers in "American Nightmare." After killing the girl, he took a call, telling the Brit on the phone that he had "cleaned up" after the brothers by killing the girl.

The Brit on the phone called him "Mr. Ketch." So, the viewers were aware that the British Men of Letters were monitoring them and enacting their own vigilante justice, killing any person or thing with abilities, but the Winchesters were not yet aware of it.
