Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The castaways this season were initially split into three tribes. Which was not an attribute that served as a focus for these tribes?

Answer: Boldness

As soon as the three tribes of six were brought into the game, they were told that based on their first impressions, they would need to choose a leader-- 'Beauty' chose LJ, 'Brawn' chose Sarah, 'Brains' chose David. The leaders then needed to choose (again, on first impressions) their weakest team member or the member they would vote out first if they needed to; LJ chose Morgan, Sarah chose Trish, David chose Garrett. Ultimately, these 'weak' people were sent directly to their camps by helicopter and, there, they were given the option to find a Hidden Immunity Idol or an extra bag of rice. Garrett found the idol with this, Morgan took the clue and tried (but failed before the tribe arrived), and Trish chose the rice. Garrett would end up being the second person eliminated from the game, opting to leave the Hidden Immunity Idol back at camp during Tribal Council on Day 6.
2. This season, all Reward Challenges were combined with Immunity Challenges.

Answer: False

Although this was generally the case for earlier seasons featuring the Redemption Island twist, the only combined Reward/Immunity Challenges seen in this season were towards the very beginning during which the tribes competed in 1v1v1 challenges. The two leading tribes would both receive Immunity Idols, but the first place tribe would get a relatively big reward package and the second place tribe would get a lesser reward (while the last place team would simply go to Tribal Council).

After Day 8, there were no combined challenges.
3. On Day 12, a tribal swap occurred. Which tribe was dissolved?

Answer: Luzon

Following three Tribal Councils (of four) in the early stages of the game, the Brains tribe, Luzon, was halved. This is why, when Day 12 rolled around, it was a potential game-changer when all castaways headed to their Reward Challenge to drop their buffs.

The Solana and Aparri tribes were kept in the game, but they were mixed into the new creations. The old Luzon tribe was rendered no-longer-in-use and, coincidentally, their idol left play when Garrett was voted out on Day 6. Both tribes proceeded with seven castaways; every former Luzon castaway ended up joining the new Aparri.
4. Which castaway quit the game on Day 14?

Answer: Lindsey

Immediately after returning to the Solana camp on Day 14, many tribe members reeled from the blindside against Cliff. Trish tried to extend an olive branch to Lindsey and explain why Cliff was eliminated, but the talk devolved into a personal argument that convinced Lindsey to back off from the tribe.

The argument led her to remove herself from camp and, ultimately, she opted to quit the game instead of make amends with Trish. She decided that she wouldn't be able to continue without doing something she would regret.
5. What was the tribe name taken on by the merged castaways on Day 17?

Answer: Solarrion

With eleven players left in the game, the tribes received tree mail on Day 17. Solana was told to pack all essential items they needed for the remainder of the game and they would be taken to the Aparri camp for the last twenty-two days. Upon arriving, the castaways were also informed that a new Hidden Immunity Idol with 'special powers' was hidden near the combined campsite.

The tribe received black buffs and elected to combine names of the three starting tribes to form 'Solarrion'.
6. During this game, a special Hidden Immunity Idol was introduced. What was its power?

Answer: It could be used after votes were cast

While Spencer got a clue to a Hidden Immunity Idol at the Outback Steakhouse reward on Day 20, pandemonium ensued when Woo nabbed it from his belongings. Soon, everyone was out hunting for the idol, digging through the riverbed to find the item. He ended up finding it, but it wasn't the 'special idol'. It took until after the Immunity Challenge on Day 28 before the special one was found. Tony located it, going on a mission to search a big tree behind tree mail and finding it at a different tree nearby.

The idol came with specific instructions which allowed him to use the idol after votes were cast, though he could only use it on himself. He never needed to, but he did claim to have it on Day 31.
7. This season, for the Survivor Auction reward, how many people didn't spend their money?

Answer: One

While some castaways immediately spent their money for the immediate gratification of food, others waited it out for advantages in the game, so the challenge ended with Tasha not spending any of her money. Since the bidding maxed out with both Tony and Spencer going for the advantage, they drew rocks to claim it. Tony won it and ended up locating another Hidden Immunity Idol with it.
Items auctioned off this season included movie popcorn, candy, and soda; quesadillas, guacamole, salsa, and a margarita; a steak sandwich and iced tea; ribs and cold beer;
As a gag item, Trish also bought rice and water.
8. There were nine Individual Immunity Challenges in this season of the show, all of which were won by two people.

Answer: False

While the majority of these challenges were won by Spencer and Tasha of the original Luzon tribe (they both won three challenges each), two were also won by Woo and one was won by Kass, making this season one of the seasons with the least spread of wealth in terms of safety of recent years. On the other side of the coin, besides Sarah, who was first eliminated after the merge and thus had no opportunity, every single post-merge castaway was able to enjoy at least one Reward won during the Reward Challenges this season (of which there were five, plus the auction).
9. This season there was a final two instead of a final three at the last Tribal Council. What happened during the penultimate Tribal Council?

Answer: A single vote was cast

The show had not featured a final two in the Final Tribal Council since "Survivor: Tocantins", ten seasons earlier. While later seasons would feature a fire-making challenge that would decide two peoples' fates going into the last stage of the game, this season returned to the classic deciding moment where the winner of the final Immunity Challenge could make the call as to who joined them in the finale.

This season also saw a nine-person jury, a standard that hadn't been used since "Survivor: One World".
10. Who was the Sole Survivor of "Survivor: Cagayan"?

Answer: Tony

Despite Tony's constant backstabbing and chaotic turns in the game, eight people of the nine on the jury ended up granting him the million dollar prize and the title of Sole Survivor during the Final Tribal Council. Only Tasha ended up placing a vote for Woo.

In the end, Tony's domineering gameplay was rewarded, his ability to collect the majority of the Hidden Immunity Idols was considered unprecedented, and his general ability to manipulate was praised during the jury deliberations while Woo's decision to bring a stronger, more likeable player to the last vote was criticized.
