Sam McCloud played by Dennis Weaver was a deputy town marshal from Taos in New Mexico. He arrived in New York escorting a prisoner from New Mexico. He was then assigned temporarily to the NYPD by the police commissioner. His boss was the ever uptight Chief Peter B. Clifford played by J. D. Cannon.

Actor Fess Parker was first choice to play Sam McCloud but he declined the offer. "McCloud" ran for 46 episodes (including the pilot) between 1970 and 1977. Dennis Weaver reprised the role in 1989 for the TV movie "The Return of Sam McCloud". Actress Diana Muldaur who first appeared in the 1970 pilot also reprised her recurring role as Chris Couglin.

Actor Kevin Dobson who had played Det. Crocker in the original series also reprised his role but was now an assistant D. A.

Garner reprised the role for eight TV movies of "The Rockford Files" between 1994 to 1999. Unfortunately Noah Beery Jr. was too ill to reprise his role as Jim Rockford's dad. He died just after the first movie was aired and it was dedicated to his memory.
4. Det. Baretta: "Baretta"

Answer: Tony

"Baretta" was the name of the TV series starring Robert Blake as Anthony Vincenzo Baretta. Robert Blake was brought in to replace Tony Musante as Det. David Toma in "Toma" which ran for 23 episodes between 1973 and 1974. It was based on the real-life story and biography of Newark, New Jersey, Det. David Toma. Tony Musante did not want to do more than one season and rather than have Blake take his place as the same character, the show was reworked as "Baretta" with less violence and the stories had nothing to do with David Toma's life story.
