Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Law & Order": Which of these actors, who've all played police detectives on "Law & Order", was once a real policeman?

Answer: Dennis Farina

Farina claimed in an interview that as a policeman (in Chicago) he was such a bad shot, he earned the nickname "The Great Wounder."

Orbach, Noth, and Bratt all studied drama/theatre in college.
2. In which of these police partner pairs, did one of them receive a Medal of Valor for saving the other's life?

Answer: Jim Reed & Pete Malloy- "Adam-12"

Reed received the Medal of Valor in the last episode of "Adam-12".
3. Reginald VelJohnson played which policeman in the long-running TV show "Family Matters"?

Answer: Carl Winslow

Reginald VelJohnson has played all of these policemen, but Carl was the much put-upon father on "Family Matters".

He played Al Powell, the radio friend of Bruce Willis' John McLean in the movie "Die Hard".

In "Turner & Hooch", he played Det. David Sutton.

Finally, in the movie "Plain Clothes", he played Capt. Graff.
4. Name the show: a cop from the future is sent back in time (to the 1990's) to find, capture, and return 200 fugitives who have been sent there by a master criminal. Since people using the time travelling machine can only go on one round-trip, the fugitives can never return once they are captured and sent back to the future, and the policeman can't return until he finds all 200.

Answer: Time Trax

A remarkably well-produced science fiction show, it only lasted 44 episodes (just under 2 American seasons). Dale Midkiff, the actor who played policeman Darien Lambert, did a fine turn as a good guy. He was often cast as the bad guy, in such movies like "Love Potion #9", with Sandra Bullock.
5. "Cheers": How many of the regulars were policemen?

Answer: 0

Cliff Clavin was the only regular that wore a uniform, but he was a mailman.
6. Det. Sgt. Suzanne Anderson was a female cop on what TV show?

Answer: Police Woman

The pilot for this show was aired as an episode of "Police Story" entitled "The Gamble". However, Angie Dickinson's character's name in that episode was Lisa Beaumont, not Suzanne "Pepper" Anderson as it became after the show was picked up.
7. "Hill Street Blues" was set in what city?

Answer: never mentioned

Throughout the series' seven year run, the actual name of the city was never mentioned. External shots were filmed in Chicago and in Los Angeles. For the latter, palm trees had to carefully be omitted from being photographed since the city was definitely a cold-weather city.
8. Combine producer Steven Bochco, "police", and "drama", and you have a hit (like "Hill Street Blues" and "NYPD Blue"). But add "musical" and you get this bomb of a TV show that only lasted 11 episodes in 1990.

Answer: cop rock

In the short run of the series, three characters from previous Bochco productions made cameos: Lt. Hunter from "Hill Street Blues", and Victor Sifuentes and Abby Perkins from "L.A. Law".
9. This show partnered two undercover cops working the dangerous underworld of urban Florida.

Answer: Miami Vice

The highly-stylized show "Miami Vice" changed men's fashions throughout the mid-1980's, with the pastel colors and the unshaven look of Det. Sonny Crockett becoming very popular.

In 1985, "Miami Vice Theme" became the first TV theme to hit #1 in Billboard since Henry Mancini's "Theme from Peter Gunn" in 1959. The song earned composer Jan Hammer two Grammy awards.
10. Which of the following was a TV policeman?

Answer: Dan August

Burt Reynolds played the title character Dan August in this one-season show in 1970.

Dan Tanna was Robert Urich's character (a private detective) on "Vega$".

Tommy Mullaney was John's Spencer's character (a lawyer) on "L.A. Law".

John Carter was Noah Wyle's character (a doctor) on "ER".
