"The Amazing Race 28" [1] Trivia Quiz

This season, unlike any raced before, started at the teams' homes. In a race first, Phil contacted all eleven competing teams via a video on a provided Nokia phone and instructed them to grab their backpacks and depart immediately, hopping into a waiting cab to head to the nearest airport and catch a flight to Mexico, City. Teams would be able to collect their first clue at the Monumento a la Revolución and embark on a race around the world. Because of the teams' hometowns, they ended up departing from Los Angeles, Dallas, or Atlanta, convening at customs in Mexico City at the same time.

Answer: Brodie and Kurt

Arriving in Mexico City at night, teams found Phil at their first landmark and collected a Detour clue. For this, teams chose either 'Mariachi Madness' or 'Great Bulls of Fire'. In 'Mariachi Madness', teams raced on foot to Plaza Garibaldi to find three hundred and fifty mariachi players. Searching through the group, they needed to find the one mariachi amongst the bunch who was faking playing the same tune as the others, then bring them to a nearby plaza to get their next clue. Brodie and Kurt, Erin and Joslyn, Dana and Matt, Zach and Rachel, and Sheri and Cole completed this task.

Answer: Bull

In the 'Great Bulls of Fire' Detour task, teams visited a Mexico City parking garage where they had to climb to the top and build a torito, a paper-mache bull, which the could load with fireworks and set alight. Once they set off their contraption, they could receive their next clue. Brittany and Jessica, Marty and Hagan, Burnie and Ashley, Darius and Cameron, Tyler and Korey, and Scott and Blair selected this task.

After their Detour, teams made their way to the Cuevas de Teotihuacan to spend the evening.

Answer: Mask

Waking up in Parque Temático Tlalocan, teams departed based on when they arrived the previous night and commenced their first Road Block task of the race, sending one member of each team into a cave to find thirteen fragments of a traditional Teotihuacano mask. Once the selected participant was able to assemble their mask in another part of the cave, they could receive their next clue. Kurt, Matt, Erin, Sheri, Tyler, Zach, Scott, Marty, Darius, Jessica, and Burnie completed this task.

Answer: Scott and Blair

Finishing their Road Block, teams were given one last clue for the leg sending them back into Mexico City to the race's first Pit Stop, the Museo Soumaya. Matt, who got out of the Road Block before the other teams, was able to push himself and Dana to the front of the pack to secure them the first place finish, narrowly edging out Tyler and Korey. Scott, unable to locate the drums during the Road Block, caused himself and Blair to fall into last place. Fortunately for them, they arrived at a non-elimination Pit Stop and were spared from being sent home so early on.

Answer: Colombia

Leaving Museo Soumaya midday, teams were instructed to leave Mexico altogether and fly southeast to the nation of Colombia, a nation as of yet unvisited on the U.S. version of "The Amazing Race". Teams needed to take a flight to the city of Cartagena where they would be able to embark in a taxicab and make their way to a cluebox a short distance outside of the city at the active mud volcano known as El Totumo.

The eleven racing teams ended up split on four different flights.

Answer: Mud volcano

Arriving at El Totumo, teams opened a Road Block clue and needed to choose one member to be a hot mess. In this challenge, one member of each pair was required to hop into Totumo, submerging themselves in hot mud to find a satchel containing emerald buried just below the surface. If they could grab it and wash it off, they could bring it down to an attendant near the lake's edge and they would be directed to swim out to their next cluebox waiting in the distance. Brodie, Dana, Ashley, Korey, Rachel, Blair, Joslyn, Cole, Brittany, Hagan, and Cameron completed this task.

Answer: Fishing

Completing the Road Block, teams were sent to Terraza Melló Farándula Jugos Naturales, a restaurant in the town of Manzanillo del Mar. All teams embarked on a Detour task after this, but Scott and Blair also had to complete their Speed Bump before continuing onward. For this, the father and daughter needed to head to Playa del Ora, like the others, but once there they needed to aid the local fishermen by pulling in a massive fishing net and collecting the catch of the day. Once they cleaned out the net, they would be able to resume the race from the Detour.

Answer: Beach

The Leg 2 Detour sent teams to the beach as they chose between 'Pop-Up' and 'Parrilla'. In 'Pop-Up', teams were required to build a beach shelter using provided materials, making something to mimic existing examples nearby. If they had it approved they could call in locals to drive in for a party and get their clue.

In 'Parrilla', teams could join a beach cook-up by preparing three barbacoa dishes for the locals. Both Detours were fairly divided with Brodie and Kurt, Burnie and Ashley, Dana and Matt, Tyler and Korey, Sheri and Cole, and Zach and Rachel completing 'Pop-Up' and Erin and Joslyn, Scott and Blair, Brittany and Jessica, Darius and Cameron, and Marty and Hagan completing 'Parilla'.

Answer: Marty and Hagan

When teams wrapped up their respective Detour options they were instructed to take their cabs back into the city of Cartagena to check in at the race's second Pit Stop, Plaza Bolivar, right in the heart of the city. Tyler and Korey, who overtook the other teams during the physical Detour, managed to keep their lead all the way to the mat and won themselves first place and a trip for two to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The end of the leg was a lot tighter with the bottom teams finishing in a close back-of-the-pack scuffle in which Marty and Hagan miscalculated a cab ride.

The two were eliminated in 11th place.
