Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Teams checked into the first Pit Stop at the Museo Soumaya in Mexico City. Was a team eliminated here?

Answer: No

Although teams stepped on the first Pit Stop mat here, this was one of the very few times in "Amazing Race" history where no team was eliminated, sending eleven teams into the second leg. Scott and Blair were the last to hit the mat and, as a result, they were forced to take on a Speed Bump in Leg 2 when they headed to Colombia. During the rest of this leg, teams hit the ground running flying to Mexico City where they completed their first Detour in the city streets and their first Road Block in the caves at Teotihuacán.
2. Castillo San Felipe de Barajas was visited by teams when they stopped off in what South American city in Legs 2 and 3?

Answer: Cartagena, Colombia

In an "Amazing Race" first, teams were sent to Colombia in Legs 2 and 3, completing a series of tasks in and around Cartagena. The depicted fortress, Castillo San Felipe de Barajas, was visited near the start of Leg 3 during which teams travelled around the Old City, the markets, and the city walls of Cartagena completing a number of culturally-inspired tasks involving shopping, transit, and pastimes.

At the fortress, teams had to descend into the catacombs to find a clue box.
3. Teams visited Geneva, Switzerland in Leg 4. At the Palace of Nations, they encountered which of these?

Answer: Road Block

Teams flew from the warm weather of Colombia to the wintertime in Switzerland, racing around the city of Geneva for a series of challenges. Towards the end of the leg, team members were selected to identify national flags at the Palace of Nations on the U.N. grounds. Following this, teams raced out of Switzerland altogether, heading to a Pit Stop deeper in the French Alps. Though this leg featured nine teams, eight of them hit the mat around the same time at the end of the leg, leaving Brittany and Jessica behind on the course.
4. Flying over the Alps in Leg 5, team members completed a Road Block where they had to spot which of these flags?

Answer: French

Teams started and ended Leg 5 in the French Alpine town of Chamonix where not only did they scale the Mont Blanc Massif, but they had the chance to go paragliding from atop Aiguilles Rouges. In addition to having to race downhill in deep snow to get airborne, participating racers had to keep their eyes peeled for a yeti waving a French flag as it would be critical info that they needed to relay to get their next clue and head to the Pit Stop. Eight teams started this chilly leg but only seven proceeded as Erin and Joslyn were eliminated.
5. What prize was given to the team that placed first in Leg 6, here at the Temple of Garni?

Answer: Express Pass

Brodie and Kurt, taking their third win of the race, claimed the elusive Express Pass at what would be regarded as a very late stage in the game as this race mechanic is usually given as early as Leg 1 or 2 in other seasons. Because they received it at the end of Leg 6, they could use it until the end of Leg 9 (though they would use it in Leg 8). Leg 6, however, saw teams racing from Chamonix to Yerevan, Armenia, joining the local workforce in a number of ways as they crossed from the capital to the countryside, stopping at the Temple of Garni but being told to keep on racing.
6. In Leg 7, teams visited the Rustaveli National Theater for a Road Block task in what capital city?

Answer: Tbilisi

Crossing from Armenia into Georgia in Leg 7, teams needed to navigate through and around the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, navigating by train, cab, and gondola throughout the leg and trying their hand in the winemaking industry, the candy industry, and the local ballet.

At the Rustaveli National Theater, team members completed a tough Road Block task which forced them to learn a complex Georgian dance before racing to the Pit Stop at the Bridge of Peace.
7. Visiting Aquaventure in Dubai in Leg 8, teams performed a Switchback, riding down the Leap of Faith.

Answer: False

Although teams did head to Palm Jumeirah and Atlantis The Palm in Leg 8 and performed a Road Block at the bottom of the Leap of Faith (previously seen in "The Amazing Race 15"), teams were asked to take a ride on the newer and longer slide Poseidon's Revenge.

In this leg of the race, the final six teams had to brave the heat of the desert before enjoying the cool waters of the park, but it was much tougher than expected due to complicated self-drive elements that pushed Sheri and Cole to the back of the pack.

In addition to seeing the Express Pass get used, this leg was also the final non-elimination of the race.
8. The tasks encountered in both Legs 9 and 10 took place in what Asian nation?

Answer: Indonesia

Teams left Dubai at the start of Leg 9 and spent two legs in and around the island of Bali in Indonesia. While Leg 9 brought teams to Tanah Lot Temple and the beaches of this picturesque island, Leg 10 sent them to the resorts and bays of Nusa Lembongan, encountering the dreaded Double U-Turn en route.

Although the trip to Indonesia allowed teams to bask in the beauty of the islands, both legs were physically demanding, forcing teams to cook in the heat and endure tough challenges working in the local industries. Both Zach and Rachel and Brodie and Kurt were eliminated during these legs.
9. Which was the last team to step on the Pit Stop mat at this location in Leg 11?

Answer: Burnie and Ashley

A terrace located near the Shenzhen Civic Center (depicted) was the final Pit Stop of the race at which the four teams competing were knocked down to three with Burnie and Ashley being sent home at the last moment. Tyler and Korey, Dana and Matt, and Sheri and Cole narrowly edged them out to secure their spot in the finale by stepping on the mat after a tense day riding public transit throughout Shenzhen, exploring the Window of the World amusement park, and choosing a Detour in the busy streets of the Dafen Oil Painting Village.
10. The final leg of the race was held in what U.S. state?

Answer: California

The final three teams spent the last day of the race in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, racing through sky, sea, and land on the way to the finish line in the vineyards of Santa Ynez. During this leg, teams leapt off of buildings, took helicopter rides, went mountain climbing, and recalled their adventures in the previous eleven legs and in the end, Dana and Matt took the win, earning themselves a million dollars.

They were followed by Sheri and Cole and Tyler and Korey in second and third.
